“Very nice hotel!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 3, 2014

We were at the hotel with our family. We're staying in a villahouse from the hotel. The villa was fine. The waiters are very kind and friendly! There was enouhg vairity of the food. Also they have an very good animationteam for young and old. They have a lot of time to talk with you and there are good and nice activities for all ages. In the morning and afternoon the DJ plays nice music at the main swimmingpool.
We had an great holiday! Thank you all!

It is far away 4 or 5 stars. Rooms were small, old-furnished, shower enclosure was without screen and run-off was no good - so after showering we had the water near bed. Room cleaning was poor. Meal was humdrum, but the waiters were very friendly, responsive, humorous. In the sea was sea grass, the sea is not good for swimming.

It is far away from 4 star hotel. It is only two or even one star. Rooms are dirty, old and small. When we book the hotel we expected it is afour star hotel but we were very disappointed the room was very old and dirty.

We were a party of 4 visiting this hotel for 1 week, the hotel was not 4 star, the cleanliness of rooms was very poor and the catering was appalling, myself and my husband did not manage to eat one meal on holiday, we were very dissappointed. We have visited Tunisia on many occasions and have never had such a poor quality of catering. I think the problem is that the hotel mainly caters for all inclusive, whereas we were half board. The service in the restaurant was not good, and we found some of the staff rude and resentful, probably because as we have been told before by staff at other hotels, when there are a lot of all inclusive guests the staff do not get tipped as much as if someone is half board and buying drinks etc. Overall I liked Djerba but could not recommend our hotel

Room Tip: Dont ask for rooms at the front of the hotel - appallling standard

This is a typical Tunisian hotel in a tourist zone catering to the beach crowd. The beach was some 200 m away from the hotel, but it was clean. The outdoor amenities of the hotel were good. Pools and tennis, etc. Inside, the public areas were comfortable. The room was mediocre: smallish, the air-conditioning didn't work, no screen on the window, so if you opened it, you got eaten by mosquitoes. The food in the dining room was very good to excellent, with great variety and presented with style.

Confusingly the hotel is also called the Djerba Palladien. It is fairly large and mainly consists of a couple of three storey wings spreading out from a central reception. However the grounds are also shared with the sister hotel Cesars whose accomodation is principally
two storey villa / village style setting.

The central reception is an initially impressive, but ultimately soulless barn of a space, with decent furniture but little of passing
interest. Our bedroom was a reasonable size (think Travelodge), clean
and with a large balcony. The furnishings were ok, if unspectacular. There was a good daily maid service. Outside the hotel has 3 pools, all quite separate from each other. Towards the front is a pool with small(ish) fun slides. To the rear was an "adults only" pool. Both of
these were smaller than the central pool, where most of the activity went on. This is organised by an "animations" team. The music could be annoying to some, but you always have the other options. In fact we spent most of our time on the beach where the hotel has it's own snack bar and area of (free) sun beds.

The beach itself is lovely fine sands, and shelves very slowly, making it ideal for young children. The sea is warm. Just look out for the odd rock in the water. We were on half board basis. We found the food fairly bland, and the repition at breakfast soon became boring. However with a little effort we found a very good Italian nearby, and other restaurants too. A meal at the local casino is recommended.

The main problem (which I had dismissed when I read other reviews) was the pre-eminence of French as the main language. During the day this was not much of a problem, as I can speak a bit of French, and most of the staff could speak some English. But all the daytime orhganised activities, and in particular all the evening entertainment, is in French. As a result I felt we missed out on quite a lot, and several evenings we were left with little to occupy our time. I recommend you take a pack of cards! Having said that, and
having spoken to other Brits that we met on trips out, it's the same at most of the hotels.

Speaking of trips, I recommend the 2 days to the Sahara desert. Your chance to play Lawrence of Arabia.

Overall then, an OK hotel, but I cannot think of any reason why you would or for that matter, would not) choose it over any other. They all looked much the same, and I recommend that you choose mainly on price.

  • Liked — Good beach
  • Disliked — Dominance of French language
