One could argue that this is the best hotel in Zarzis, so everything and everyone seems to converge in this hotel. If you are looking for the Four Seasons, avoid Zarzis completely but if you are looking to enjoy yourself and just go with the flow, this hotel is perfectly fine.
Hotel is located 10 minutes outside Zarzis in the Zone Touristique but if you are here for a week or less, everything that you need is in walking distance of the hotel. Check in and check out can be slow depending on the season but you shouldn't come here with the impatient, Western mindset. If reception is slow, sit down and have a drink.
The rooms are decent with decor from 80 or 90s. I especially liked the built in bottle opener in the bathroom. If youre an English speaker, there is only the BBC so Id advise you to French, Italian, or Spanish, or go outside and enjoy the activities. A large part of the local community depends on tourists, so be a tourist! They have water and beach activities and lots of shopping. Right outside the hotel is a lovely man who is a retired science teacher, with a small souvenir shop and convenience store who is always open for a chat.
You can go dune buggying, parasailng and water skiing for much less than what one would pay back home!
The food in the hotel is fine. I had never heard of harissa before going so if you like spicy food, ask the chefs to add harissa to your dish. If you are not an all inclusive guest, drinks, including water are not included.
Internet is not available except in the lobby so many people try to request rooms above the lobby but I heard that some of those rooms also had roaches. So just sit in the lobby and people watch. This is perhaps the most interesting part of the hotel. You can sit down an hear 5 or 6 languages n the space of a few minutes while listening to the nightly piano player. Or linger downstairs in the restaurant with a glass of wine while listening to local Tunisian musicians or go out to the beach at night and watch the stars dance.
In sum, the hotel is what you make of it. The hotel is average but you should not go there just to stay in your hotel room.
