“Over rated 5* Resort”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 21, 2010

Have just returned from staying at the Africano, Hammamet Yasmine. Was really looking forward to staying here after reading such good positive reviews from trip advisor, but was slightly disappointed once we arrived. We booked direct with the resort as this seemed the better price at the time. We chose to book a double sea view room, when arriving we were given a twin room, admittedly with a sea view but only from a side view and not a front view as we thought we had booked - slightly dissapppointed about that. When inquired if they had any double rooms with 1 big bed and not 2 single pushed together we were told all beds are 2 single. We later found out after walking pass other rooms that they did have just 1 big bed rooms, felt very annoyed that we had been lied to.
The overall feel to the place is very German, and most of the staff only speak German. The food was very good though with good choice and plenty of it. Though would not like to be here in peak season as I can imagine space could be a issue.
Overall impression feels like a foreign Butlins and would not return or recommend to friends or family.

We stayed there one week for a New Year 2007/2008. Hotel deserves its 5*, big rooms, excellent service, minibar in the room included in the price, many ski sports (available even in Dec). Food was absolutely great, buffet style and a choice of menu restaurants. Many various attractions - bikes, aeroibcs, kids club, etc.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 28, 2009

This was our 5th visit to Tunisia but our first visit to Magic Life.
Tips. Make sure you have a drink with you when you arrive because it is a long trip from the Airport to the Hotel (one and a half to two hours).
Take insect repellent with you because there are mossies!
If you need your early morning tea or coffee, take your own kettle and tea bags etc because there are no tea/coffee making facilities in the rooms. No problems getting milk - just ask one of the chefs in the main restaurant for a carton of milk.
Take time to look at the information channel on your tv which will give you all the info you need for your stay about the hotel and facilities etc.

Check In: Very fast and efficient. Very friendly reception staff and porters.

Rooms: Very spacious with a lovely balcony. Plenty of wardrobe and cupboard and drawer space. Ask for more hangers and pillows if you need them. Mini bar is replenished daily with water coke and orange only. Bathroom adequate. Cannot comment on air conditioning as this was not needed in the rooms during our stay.

Public Areas: Plenty of space everywhere. There are a team of cleaners who are always at work! The gardens are very pretty with magnificent plants trees and flowers.
There is an internet area where you can use the internet for half an hour at a time. Just get a pin number from Reception. Plenty of books on the shelves to read free of charge on your sunbed!

Food: Excellent choice of food. Something to suit all tastes in our opinion. The a la carte restaurants are worth a try to see which you like best. If the hotel is not busy they will let you visit as many times as you wish. You just book the day before you want to go with the Guest relations. We spent a total of 6 nights in the a la carte restaurants during our stay! The Gala dinner is on Monday and this is very special also. Each evening there is a different theme in the main restaurant and they go to alot of trouble to decorate the entrance to suit the theme.

Drinks: 24 hour if you wish! The drinks are fine but you cannot get Baileys or campari which I normally have on holiday. I found the cocktails to be a bit weak but it is worth giving them a try. Make sure you ask for House Wine when you order your wine with mealls etc because they have other wines that you have to pay for. The House Wine is fine especially in the a la carte restaurants.

Tips: We did tip the staff but only a dina or two each time. There were almost two dinars to the £ when we stayed here. They are very grateful and we felt they deserve it because they will go out of their way to make sure you enjoy your holiday. They all work very hard and long hours. All staff were polite and friendly at all times. We could not fault the service anywhere in the hotel.

Pools and Beach: All very clean and plenty of sun beds. This was not a busy period when we stayed (23rd September until 7th October). It may be a different story in August of course. The sea was warm but the pools were cold. You get your pool towells at the towell station and you can change them each day if you need to.

Entertainment: Better than we have experienced in other places. The shows put on by the annimation team were all excellent and we saw them all. There is dancing and entertainment in the Captains Bar after the show most nights which we thoroughly enjoyed. We did not go to the Night Club so cannot comment on that.
There is something going on all the time in the day if you wish to take part. You can do as much or as little as you wish. There is no pressure to take part.
The Watersports got the thumbs up from people we met who were into them!

Other Guests: We had no probelms with other guests of different nationalities. We found everyone to be polite and friendly. Everyone seemed to join in, even when they did not understand the language!

Trips: We did not go on any trips, because we have been to Tunisia before and have done the two day desert trip which was fantastic.

Out and About: You can walk to the Medina and the Marina or get a taxi. We went to the Medina where you can find many fixed price shops for your fake designer gear. We got some designer scarfs for abour £3.50 and a Channel handbag for about £30. You can barter a bit which they are all used to in the Medina.

Spa and Massage: Did not use this facility. Felt that it was a bit pricey but have a look.

Overall we had a lovely holiday and would return to Magic Life if we decide to visit Tunisia again.
Hope you have found this review helpful and hope you have a great holiday!

Excellent hotel to come back to!

Being not the easiest person to please, I was so impressed with the Magic Life Africana, that the first time in my life I am feeling confident to recommend this hotel to my family, friends and anyone who is looking for a diverse, busy holiday. There is nothing I could find to fault this place!

First of all, the beach and the sea are mesmerising. The sand and the water are magical! I have picked this hotel because of the variety of the water sports on offer and was very pleased to be able to choose from sailing, wind surfing, water skiing. You could do any courses, there was never any queue and the staff was very professional and safe aware. Special thank you to Ramzi, Ridha and Yazar for my sailing experience! Furthermore, there are always banana boat, canoe & catamarans available for your use. The beach is very clean and relaxing if you just want to enjoy the sea and sun. The bar on the beach is serving drinks and snacks all day and the guys who work there are very friendly despite their workload.

The next point to mention is the quality and variety of the food! Excellent choice, everything fresh and decorated with lots of little touches. There are 3 restaurants to choose from and if you prefer a la carte, the Mediterranean restaurant is excellent (when we went there was a piano player which made the experience unique!). The food is great, we loved the sweets selection and freshly made bread and the waiters are always ready to help and assist.

I was also very impressed with the entertainment. The shows were excellent, the dancers professional and inspiring you to join in and dance. They are just beautiful to watch and the decorations and costumes were outstanding! Special thank you to Ivo, Paulo (will crack the moves from Adv Aerobic one day :-)), Marcos, Julia and Gleyce for their grace, talent and motivation!

In addition to that there was lots and lots to do and it would be very difficult to get bored. There are tennis lessons, volleyball, mountain bike tours, stretching (loved the music!), step aerobics, golf, sauna and spa on offer! This hotel has plenty to keep the whole family occupied. Everybody is very friendly and it is very easy to make friends and join in for different activities.

All together it was a holiday to remember and the hotel to return to. I wanted to thank Leila, Hedi and Aymen for the special touches they have organised for my mother's birthday and for their hard work to make everybody's holiday special. We are definitely planning to come back and bring the entire family to the MAGIC LIFE AFRICANA!

From the first moment of arrival we felt at home. Within the first few minutes as we were checking in , seated on a comfy sofa, enjoying a cooling drink, we were introduced to many members of staff and management. Leyla was lovely, she was so thorough in explaining everything to us, regarding restaurants and where everything was.A credit to the front desk.
This was our second visit to a Club Magic, they really have the formula right here.
Nothing is too much trouble.
The food was excellent, Magico buffet has a great choice of well prepared and presented food. Different themes each night, and a lot of trouble taken to dress the restaurant according to the theme of the evening. The executive chef very much in view at every meal.
The A la Carte restaurants were excellent, Lovely atmosphere and live music . A real treat to be waited upon and all part of the all inclusive package.
Each night the Assistant Manager Aymon, would visit each table in each restaurant to wish you an enjoyable meal. He was everywhere, on the beach, in the restaurants , at the entertainment shows.
The entertainment team were terrific and so friendly. Not a bit pushy to involve you in any sports or activities but there was always a good attendance for anything. Volleyball and football tournaments, tennis lessons, boules.
We didn't visit the gym or take part in the workouts , but they always looked to be well attended.
Every night there was live music in the Captains Bar, and all the Entertainment team would invite you to dance, so any singles were all well catered for .
Ivo is to be commended for the wonderful team here. All the dancers are terrific, and a pleasure to watch.
We danced every night, we love to dance and the music was a good mix for most people to enjoy.
One week was a pool party, the following week was a beach party, all very good, and snacks available also to keep you fuelled. We didn't visit the disco, but it always looked as though it would be busy, judging by the mass of guests going in that direction.
The beach was lovely and clean, the security guard was very attentive and would always find two loungers for you and bring cushions. Beach vendors were not allowed to approach guests, and so it made for a tranquil time. He was very watchful and only guests were allowed onto the property . We felt very safe.
The watersports were very well attended , waterskiing and banana boats included along with kayaks and windsurfing and catamarans. A good team here, and all very safe.
The room was kept beautifully clean by Sihem, our housemaid . Absolutely spotless. We had a view of the trees at the side of the hotel. It was lovely and cool and we had to turn off the Air-con occasionally at night as it was too cool . I slept here better than I have for years , even at home.
The Magic Angels in Guest services were all Magic, Mieke, Jacqueline and Hedi.
We didn't leave the hotel, except for walks along the beach. We just go on holiday to enjoy each others company and all that the hotel has to offer.
We were sorry to leave, but we will be back.

This hotel was fantastic! From the moment we got out of our taxi at the entrance we were mesmerized. I have never been anywhere where everyday, we are gobsmacked at the high standard and beautiful hotel.

I literally have no complaints...except leaving!

The staff are so fantastic and friendly (Especially Hamda and Samir in the restaurants), there are 2 pools, an louder pool with a bar where you can splash about and a relax pool which is very quite and chilled.

This holiday can be as relaxed or active as you like. I did Tai-Chi every morning with a crazy chinse guy who looked like he had stepped out of Karate Kid!
We actually picked this hotel for its watersports though, never have we visited anywhere that offers the range that MagicLife does, for free. Windsurfing, lasers, Catamarans, Waterski-ing, wakeboarding and banana boats. I must have looked like I was on holiday alone as I could not get my fiance out of the water!
The water by the way is so crystal clear, they have won awards for their strip of beach as it is so clean.

I felt so save at this hotel, there are security everywhere, even when you try to buy something on the beach a guard stands with you to make sure you are safe!

Food...all food is amazing! We ate and ate and ate. The cakes are out of this world! The cocktails are pretty good too. Ooh, and the paninis on the beach!

The rooms are fantastic too. I read somewhere that the rooms air con was poor...hell no.... our room was like walking into a freezer, lovely!! It was about 37-40 degrees every day so well worth it!

Anyway, this is definately worth every penny. We are returning for honeymoon it was that good.

Ideal for adults though rather than kids as there is no much for children!

B xxx

This holiday was amazing!
I was slightly worried about this holiday because we have a shy 16 year old daughter, had booked for the teen club (among other considerations), and had recieved a letter from Thomson to say the club was no longer running.
There were so many young people there, the hotel opened up the clubs again. Daughter went to the teen club which unfortunately was too young for her. We mentioned this to one of the hotel 'Angels' who immediately introduced her to a group of English and German teenagers the same age. She had a fantastic holiday!

All the staff are cheerful, helpful, and make the effort to learn your names, remember favourite drinks etc. Any minor problem is taken seriously and resolved immediately.
My daughter was unlucky to be a lure to mosquitos, (no-one else in the hotel had bites like hers), one of the staff noticed, took us to the resident nurse, gave her some cream, no charge.
All areas are spotlessly clean and well maintained. In our room, the sheets and towels were changed daily .

Food: breakfast, lunch, and paninnis at the beach cafe were great. The main restaurant in the evening provided quite an extensive menu so there was something for everyone. My only negative comment about the whole holiday is that we found the evening food selection, although extensive, almost the same every night which got a bit boring into the second week. The Mediterranean restaurant was a nice alternative in the evening.
Wine ok, drinkable. Spirits fine, VERY generous measures, some really nice cocktails.
Room fridge stocked with water, coke and fanta. Not a problem if you want wine in the room, go to the bar and the staff will give you a bottle and glasses. Note that in the evening most people dress up a bit, and beach wear is not allowed.

Activities: A huge range to choose from, the instruction is excellent and there was no need to reserve anything, my husband went sailing nearly every day and he would just walk down to the beach when he felt like it and there was always a boat available. We also had some golf tuition, salsa dancing lessons (ha ha) and archery lessons; and enjoyed the bananna boat and canoes.

Entertainment: The resident dancers are excellent. They have maybe 2 or 3 shows in a week, the rest are beach party, pool party, karaoki and belly dancing. There is live music until midnight, and a 'proper' disco from 11pm until 2am, which is supposed to be over 18 but is actually filled with 15-20's. We did go one evening, and if you can ignore feeling old it is actually very good.

Pool area is lovely with enough sunbeds and parasols. The first week we were there , there was a bit of an early 'grab your spot' thing going on, but in the second week some people were coming to the pool at 9am and were able to find a place. The hotel manager also goes round collecting towels off beds that have obviously not been used.

The beach has plenty of sunbeds and parasols, free at any time of the day. It is a private hotel beach which is very close to the hotel/pool areas. The sand is lovely soft white sand, and in the sea it shelves very gradually. The sea is really clear and WARM ! , some mornings with a narrow band of seaweed near the shore, other mornings no seaweed at all. There is a Lifeguard on duty at the beach and the pool.

Nice touches were surprise deliveries of ice lollies on some afternoons, the staff would walk round throwing them to anyone who raised a hand, even if you were in the pool at the time!

There is a mix of nationalities, and obviously the ratio of Brits to others changes depending on school holidays etc. Our first week, there were mainly German, Austrian, some French and Dutch and about 15% Brits. The second week there were more Brits.
Most of the German and Austrian guests speak English anyway so we really had no problems making 'friends'. Almost all the staff speak at least 4 languages. We find it interesting to talk to people from other countries, but if you like all British it may not be the hotel for you.

So, fantastic holiday, the staff really made it special (they even come to wave you off when you leave), wonderful weather, wonderful place.
