We stayed at the Apart Hotel Royal Residence from the 13th May to 20th May 2007, half board, after a weeks touring in Tunisia. The meals were taken in the sister Hotel Le Hammamet, which is a short walk through the beautiful gardens, linking the hotels.
The evening meals were the best we have experienced abroad, always hot and with more than adequate choice and beautifully cooked. The dining room is a low vaulted structure with a lot of character and the waiters were always friendly and helpful. Normally we would choose to eat out to experience the local character, but on this occaision, the whole character and ambience meant that this was not necessary.
Each hotel has a large swimming pool with free sunbeds and waiter service if required. The beach is only a short walk away. The staff in the Royal Residence were always very friendly and helpful and there were no language problems. Reception staff in the Le Hammamet Hotel seemed less friendly.
The hotel is situated in a quiet culdisac, so there were no noise problems. Linked to the Le Hammamet Hotel is the Queen Vic, for drinks and snacks. Again the staff were excellent, friendly and curteous.
The hotel has a small shop for essential items at reasonable prices, but there are other shops across the road, where we again found prices to be reasonable and the staff helpful and with no hassle when buying gifts.
There is evening entertainment and other activities which we did not partake, so cannot comment. The apartment was spacious, having a large sitting area with small kitchen complete with electric rings and fridge. Water had to be boiled in a pan and a small kettle would have been better.
There were two balconies, overlooking the pool, with sliding doors, one off the bedroom and one off the living room. The Bathroom has bath and shower and the water was always hot. Towels were changed every day, beds made and changed and the rooms cleaned satisfactorarily.
The air conditioning was not working however at this time of year, but was needed on the occaisional very hot days. Taxis are very cheap and always available outside the hotel. It would take about an hour to walk along the beach to the Medina. Definitely an excellent Hotel to chill out in as the resort itself is of limited interest.
