“Nice Place”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 18, 2013

This was the first time I have visited Tunisia and stayed with the Iberostar Hotel chain. I have read through many reviews before booking that Hotel in particular. It’s all depends on your personal preference and also your age Group ( I am 25). I will make this simple and use Bullet Points:

Reception:
The reception is friendly and straight forward. It really depends who is in charge of the Reception. Some receptionists are friendly and happy to help you. However, some receptions are moody and even argue with you which I did not appreciate at all on my holiday. I have asked the receptions many times to fix the AC as it was blowing out Hot air on a day when it is 24 Degrees outside and couldn’t even off it. One receptionist said that is blowing air as its winter (that made me laugh). The next day, I approached another receptionist who said that she will take care of it (Never happened). The finally fixed the AC after 3 days, however, it was cold outside and the AC would now only blow cold air only ( That made me laugh again). Therefore, reception is 2* Standard.

Bar:
The bar people are friendly individuals who are happy to help you at any time. The waiters even come outside the Bar to see if anyone wants a coffee or a drink. In addition, the bar also offers nice sandwiches and Peanuts for people who get hungry at night. You can get wine, beer and local spirits for free. Anything branded will be extra. Therefore, 4* indeed.

Restaurant:
The food is amazing. They have a great selection of food and drinks available. It might get bit repetitive with some dishes but the food just taste good. The waiters are there to clean the table constantly and offer you any drinks you want. Therefore, 4* indeed.

The Room:
The Room I stayed in was really clean and spacious. The TV would show few channels from around the world. The mini Bar was empty (Not sure why), the Toilets get cleaned everyday too. However, I did come across a cockroach which was not very nice to see. I did report that to the receptions, but it seemed that they did not care. The beds were very comfortable and the Room looked very modern too. Therefore, 3* Standard.
The Animation Team:
The Hotel offers various activities (Stretching, Table Tennis, Arching, Salsa Dance etc). The Team works really hard to keep the mood up, especially when it rains outside. The Team give people nick names and even make fun of them, but nothing personal. They are very friendly and actually care. Therefore, 4* indeed.

Overall, I enjoyed my stay at the Hotel. I would recommend people to stay at this Hotel even though not everything is 4* standard.
I did not like the Country as everyone just wants to sell you something, force you to come to their shop and convince you, that their branded goods are not fake ( Yh right…). The place around the Hotel looks very run down, dirty and trash can be found everywhere. The beach is dirty, you will find Camel faeces everywhere and people running after you to sell something. I will not be visiting Tunisa again.

This hotel is one of the friendliest places iv ever been! The staff , the service, the entertainment and the food is very good.

I travelled with 2 friends and my little boy and wanted interconnecting rooms which on arrival this was not the case so a quick word with the management and we got put into a junior suite which was a very big spacious lovely room! The rooms were cleaned daily with swans made out of the towels and petals left around daily (this to me was a nice touch)

We had a lot of fun with all the staff and they made a lot of fuss of my child who is disabled. The entertainment team are just fantastic although they want you to join in with the games if you say no they will not push you.

There was plenty of choice at the restaurant, sometimes the same food but always plenty of meat, veg, pasta dishes, salad, breads and puddings.

For anyone who uses wheelchairs or pushchairs the access here is good with ramps and lifts to get anywhere you want to go (apart from the show time 'cave' but the staff here are more than happy to help you down and back up when you want to leave)

If you go on holiday to enjoy yourself you most defiantly will and the staff will make sure you have the best holiday.

All in all I would recommend this hotel to anyone!

Had a really good week at the Chich Khan. Needs a bit of TLC with iffy carpets and some less than new fittings but it was really clean and fairly comfortable.
Staff really nice (except for sunbed man) and the animation team great - even if their taste in music was rotten.
Food was plentiful and good veriety every meal time. Drinks went down well, although later in the night I was not sure what I was drinking.
I would stay again even though the resort itself is a bit scruffy.

Room Tip: Some rooms don't have balcony - make sure you request one

We spent a week in early March at the Hotel and enjoyed all aspects of our stay. The cheery hotel staff really made our holiday, especially the restaurant waiters and bar staff who soon got to know their guests and went out of their way to make you feel special. As ever a small tip to them and the poolside staff guaranteed first class service, but we felt in no way obliged to tip them for the sake of it, they fully deserved it.
The hotel was quite full out of season but service was not affected in any way, even though not all facilities were fully open. Even when some local guests arrived for a weekend conference things ran smoothly and the management took the step of opening restuarants early to accomodate the extra guests.
Our room was fine and well cleaned and typical of 4/5 star foreign standards. The hotel corridors and some aspects of communal areas were in need of investment and in some areas a little shabby but this did not affect our holiday enjoyment. We enjoyed the quality and choice of food on offer, which was again typical of Tunisian/African cuisine and well cooked.
Refreshingly there was little or no bother from the various staff offering pampering or animation services if you did not wish them, which was a change from our usual experiences on holidays of this type. It was also quite safe to walk around the resort outside the hotel as long as you follow the normal advice given by the local travel reps.
We did not pay excessively for the week long trip and felt that we received good value for money.
The airport at Enfida was clean and organised as were the transfers to and from the resort by Thomas Cook.
This was our third visit to Tunisia and our first to the resort of Yasmine Hammamet, and we would thoroughly recommend a stay at this hotel.Weather was fine and any rainfall seemed to happen overnight, which made the poolside experience all the better. If you prefer to sunbathe on the beach all hotels in the resort had a small private beach available to them, which was approx 400 yards from the hotel on the opposite side of the promenade road from the hotel.

I used to travel a fair amount in Arab and North African countries but this was a chance for the 10 year olds to experience it. We went on an Airmiles (sorry, Avios) flight to Tunis and paid less than £300 for a week for 4 half board in the Chich Khan during Feb half term. Stunning value for money.

The room was comfortable, the food edible and the hotel tired but presentable. Staff were very friendly and helpful and service couldn't be faulted.

Here are a few pointers that may help other visitors:

- Currency exchange. Whilst we were there the rate I got from my CaxtonFX card slipped from 2.32 to 2.29. meanwhile, the rate offered by the hotel stayed at 2.37. It would have been cheaper to take cash and change it at the desk.

- Credit cards. I couldn't get my currency card or my credit card to work at reception, so had to pay the bill by going to the nearest cash machine and taking out cash. I still don't know why.

- Henna tattoos. The henna tattoos available in the hotel are NOT henna. They are the infamous black henna, nothing to do with real henna. It is usually a mix of hair and skin dyes illegal in the US and associated with skin irritation and scarring. That's why the woman asks you to take an allergy test first. At your own risk!

- Street vendors and pestering. Same as any other country in the area. Either ignore, play along, or learn enough French or Arabilc to say no. "Non merci" or "La shukran" usually works. When you get "Do you not recognise me I am the chef from your hotel", best to play along, eg "Yes - its Saleem isn't it? No, Mohammed....or is it Ahmed...". Much more fun that being rude.

- Heating. Doesn't seem to come on in the holtel till about 6pm. Take warm clothes in Feb!

- Half board - suited us. It would have cost 93 dinars/£40 a day to upgrade 4 of us to all inclusive. Even though bar prices in the hotel are a bit of a shock (15 dinars/£6.50 for 2 local gin and tonics and 14 dinars for a bottle of cheap wine), you can buy local booze and drink it in your room if you're desperate. We could find anywhere in Jasmine Hammamet that sold alcohol, but there's a supermarket at the bottom of Ave de la Republique in Hammamet itself. An you can wander down to the "Hot 2 Hot" restaurant for proper Tunisian food for lunch (see my review).

All in all, a damn good cheap holiday.

Room Tip: We booked a "connecting double" and ended up with a "junior suite". This had an...
