Just got back from one week here with my partner & we thoroughly enjoyed it highly recommend, only went for a nice relaxing break just as a get away & this ticked every box. I would firstly recommend staying in yasmine Hammamet as it is a purpose built tourist resort which is very clean & relaxed i only say this as i usually hate tourist resorts but the rest of Tunisia we saw seemed to be very dirty with the road sides used as rubbish dumps ( however, i am reassured that things are on the up, they are now encouraging people to recycle & have employed some of the poorer people to collect the litter)
Anyway, we arrived at the hotel which was impressive, to a warm welcome & were given a nice clean spacious room overlooking a garden which was lovely, i did get the impression that the hotel receptionists were fed up of the 'i booked a sea view room' conversation that so many people have put on here as i saw at least 3 people during my 1st day try this and they just looked silly, If you want a sea view i recommend paying its not that expensive. We exchaged our travellers cheques with no problem at hotel reception and got a safety deposit box in our room for 3 dener a night (£1.50). The hotel is one of, if not the best in yasmine hammamet mainly because of its location, close to the marina and it is one of the few with a private beach.
The beach - is lovely with plenty of free loungers however on the first day we arrived it did have a line of dirt where the waves met the sand mainly camel poo (although i didnt see one camel on the beach?) but before this the sand was soft and golden and after the sea was clear & blue we thought what a shame all it need was some to clear up this line of dirt & next day this is exactly what they did people on tractors rake the beach early morning leaving the beach one of the best ive seen & this remained throughout our stay!
The pool - was delightful once your in despite other peoples comments regarding it being cold i have NEVER known an outdoor swimming pool not be a tad cold on entry?? it was lovely & we spent a lot of time in it, the pool bar was fab staff friendly & always busy. longers around the pool are a plenty but you do get the REALLY annoyng people still getting up a crack of dawn to reserve loungers with their towels then not retuning to them for 4 hours, but you will always get a lounger despite this.
The food - AMAZING great choice you can eat 24/7 i am a vegetarian, my partner isnt & we both could have eaten around the clock the choice is outstanding, well presented, fresh & a plenty one night they had a whole yellow fin tuna that had just been caught being prepared for the BBQ i was impressed even being a veggie - none of the tuna went to waste & my partner assures me it was the best he had ever tasted. For those of you who get on my nerves and wont eat anything other than processed rubbish go to Butlins i met a few whilst staying here & i was appalled at the que of english adults waiting for pizza & chips, GROW UP! the waiters are FANTASTIC we tipped our evening waiter 1 dener (50p) each night but the service you receive you'd have thought you'd given him a million pound, every waiter gave 110% so friendly and willing to please genuinely. well done!
The drinks - again AMAZING i loved the cocktails especially the one with coconut & strawberry our cocktail waiter fayez was brilliant thoughout our stay he always remembered what drinks we liked cracked a few jokes and had a good chat with us each evening always with a big smile. The wine & water comes by the bottle, the beer is real, the cola is coca cola, fanta is fanta nothing is watered down or a substitute!
Entertainment - the animation team do work hard all were friendly except one of the girls who seemed to have rather been else where, they did pester people a little bit to buy tickets for raffels, night clubs during our eveing meal for the 1st two nights but they got the hint pretty quickly & then left us alone for the remainder of our stay. the evening entertainment was such fun but mainly becasue of the guests joining in especially the group from portugal who got up dancing what a laugh, everyone had a good time each evening.
The tipping - you do not feel pressured to tip at all but you will feel like you want to tip which is great as the staff simply could not do enough & really make your stay. 1 dener is all you need to tip (50p) but you will want to give more on the odd occasion we didnt tip we were not treated any different than other people. The only one i didnt like tipping was the guy who brought your lounger in the morning round the pool as he had it easy & took his time to do everything but we got the feeling if we didnt tip we would have been waiting forever!
My favorite bit - the birds! i am a huge nature lover and the little birds that tweet & fly all around the gardens of the hotel are a joy , the hotel also plays host to many swifts who build their nests around the outsides of the hotel they feed on the insects all day bringing them back to the nest for their chicks and swoop down to drink from the pool(fresh water) of an evening what a joy to watch right from your pool lounger or table! I would recommend going to the marina to watch the fish we went two days in a row (and took some bread) so many different kinds. we also had a little kitten visit to the hotel and a tortoise!
Excursions - not very good and not very many to choose from & VERY expensive we went on two. we would recommend the ROMAN EMPIRE tour this was amazing and the tour guide brilliant, the other the Tale of two worlds was good but i wouldn't go on it again. We didnt go on the pirate ship tour as this did look rather rubbish as you can see the ships from the beach they look crowded & boring. its a shame they dont do another kind of boat trip as it is needed.
We didnt brave the madina!
(Thomas cook rep etc the usual poor sales pitch received on first day didnt see him once after this but we were glad as he was very patronising, rep on the coach from the airport to the hotel was terrible obviously reading from a script & sounded so imature you would have believed her if she said she was still in infant school. SHOCKING!)
To conclude- i would go back- clean, comfortable, great service, friendly atmophere, good food & drink, relaxing & wildlife included! Would highly recommend for a relaxing get away break to read a book and chill out we came back refreshed and relaxed. :-)
