“Expensive but worth it”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 12, 2013

Of course there are a load of massive luxury hotel complexes in Tunisia.
What is great about the Hasdrubal are:
1. Really amazing clean spacious beach at the end of the long line of hotels
2. Huge rooms, marble shower, balcony, huge bed
3. Fun salt-water pools in the spa
4. Fantastic restaurants with some proper Tunisian food Tunisian music and a great belly-dancer
5. Friendliest and most helpful staff in Tunisia especially Leila at the Reception and the Gym guy whose name I didnt catch
6. Not many people around during the week in July although Sunday filled up with wealthy locals and the car park with their Mercedes and Audis
On the other hand, it is expensive for Tunisia, (although beers for 3 euros in the swim-up bar is not exactly exorbitant, and the room rate was about the same as e.g. a rubbish room in the Haven Hotel in Poole, Dorset) no wifi in rooms but good plug-in internet connection. Breakfast was nothing special, but the pastries and cakes were great.

We had an absolutely lovely stay at the Hasdrubal. Management and staff are v friendly, courteous and attentive. Great food choices - Tunisian (check out the bread and lamb casserole) International (lunch time pizza by the pool is hard to resist), Gourmet (great fish and beef choices) and a diet friendly menu! Pool, beach and spa facilities are magnificantly laid out with great attention to detail. Hotel decor is very ornate, stylish with a sense of being opulant without being too much! Pool side service worth a specific mention as does the breakfast menu (pancakes, omelettes, fruit, breads, cheese plus, plus). While a firm bed will suit a lot of people, we will be requesting a softer bed when we return! Dave & Rose

Room Tip: We have stayed in the Hasdrubal twice and both rooms had sea views.

We stayed here over Christmas in December 2012, and our hotel bedroom was one of the largest I have ever stayed in. It's not the most modern of hotels, but stands out amongst the strip of Hammamet hotels. Great grounds, great beach and very enjoyable spa. But it's a big hotel and with just a handful of guests, it felt rather empty and ghost-like. With hardly any guests, service was fine, although check-in was a bit random and we were just left sitting for 20 minutes.

Personally I would suggest avoid staying in Yasmine Hammamet (the new strip of hotels), but it's a good base for trips to the south and interior (Sousse, Monastir, Kairouan etc).

Unlike other hotels which list 5 stars on the Tunisian coast (Moevenpick in Sousse or the Sindbad in Hammamet), this hotel does deserve its five stars, and compares well with similar hotels in the Orient. Breakfast with an ample choice for every taste. We ate lunch everyday at open restaurant overlooking the sea , and service as well as food was impeccable. My wife needs to eat lots of salads for diet reasons, and she was extremely happy with the Salade Nicoise, no stomach problems at all. Dinner we always ate from the four menus available, no need to go out to risky restaurants. Very attentive waiters, above all Moncef, who seemed a bit dry at first, but turned out be a first class waiter. Room service was fast and efficient, and we appreciated the fresh roses in the room.

The SPA is magnificent and offers all treatments one could ask for, however, book well in advance, even before your arrival, since they are very busy in the summer months.

The deputy manager does an excellent job, checking every little detail, making sure that everybody gets top service. He was always very attentive to little complaints or suggestions.

Fantastic resort, beautifully laid out and magnificent rooms (or 'suites' as they all are). A great place to unwind a spend a few days in glorious surroundings. Just a few little niggles which seems churlish given how wonderful it is overall however I'll mention them.
No tea/coffee facilities in room. Irritating. Also only hotel I've been in ages that doesn't provide complementary water in room (had to buy it from mini bar). On the plus side they did put a lovely fruit basket and bottle of wine in our room the first day.
Breakfast no way 5 star standard. In fact for this class of hotel very disappointing selection and quality. Had much better in most 4 star hotels.
Prices in swim up bar exorbitant.
Quality of evening meal really excellent. Prices not too bad - about what I'd pay in London so not too bad for this quality of hotel.
Staff all really friendly and helpful. All of them.
Overall I recommend this place

This has got to be one of the loveliest hotels I have ever stayed in and I have been to many. Even the standard rooms are luxurious and fit for a king! The bathrooms are amazing. It has a wonderfully peaceful and private beach. One of the nicest beaches I have ever been on may I add. Staff are very helpful and attentive. The hotel is very grand. We were invited to a cocktail party on our 4th night by the hotel manager and also sent a welcoming fruit basket to our room. The food offered has some variety, all well cooked and well presented. This hotel also serves the best steak I have ever eaten anywhere in the world.
To sum up this hotel is excellent in every sense. Just brilliant.
