“Cheap-ish Resort Option”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 13, 2012

Overall, compared to other hotels in the Zone Touristique, this is a cheap-ish, comfortable (but not completely luxurious) resort option.
Staff are courteous and professional.
Rooms are reasonably comfortable – fairly large, reasonable heating system (we were there in Winter), although we were not able to get a double/queen-sized bed – when asked, they used king-sized sheets to pull two single mattresses together.
The beach was very quiet and calm, but covered in large piles of seaweed and debris (I suspect they clear this debris during the busier, warmer seasons).
Dining hall staff were excellent. Our waiter was very receptive to whether or not the guests wanted friendly or efficient service (being on holidays, we of-course wanted friendly!). The pizza chef made us pizzas to order (not sure if he would have time to do this in the busy season).
Some staff speak English, but we mostly relied on our beginner French.
Probably good for kids, except (like most resorts in Tunis), the pool is not fenced.

This review is probably going to shock you, but this really happened ... It can be validated with over 200 other "guests" of this place (sorry, you can't call this a hotel) ...
In general, this hotel is very average. Rooms are ok (small, no storage place, but clean), swimming pool ok, clean. But all average, let's say rather 3 stars then 4. Food is not good. Below average, every day the same and I doubt the overall hygene (the cold buffer with salads is something I would recommend not trying, the place is simply to hot). The "all in" experience basically means you can have water, coffee, some softdrinks and some local alcohol. No cocktails, nothing special ... But all of that would simple mean : an average, over priced hotel.
Now comes the shocking part : On Tuesday, November 1st, we arrived at the breakfast and found total chaos. There was no food, nothing. They decided to ... strike ! There were a couple of waiters that after some time started to hand out ... water. But it got worse. We didn't know what they were planning and there was no communication at all. We went to the swimming pool, where around 10:30, 2 maintance guys tried to close down the internal swimming pool to make sure nobody could take one of the soft covers to put on the long chairs around the pool ... This almost has resulted in a real fight. We were there with 2 kids and no longer felt safe. I called the emergency number of the travel agency and learned there our travel host was standing OUTSIDE the hotel walls and was NOT ALLOWED in ! So we were literally kept as hostages in our own hotel.
The story is much longer, but I guess you get the idea. Yes, there were 120 hotel "on strike", but only 2 decided to take guests as hostages. This was one of them. The rest has a bar closed or something like that. Worse is that the hotel management (the manager is a total idiot) was clearly extremely happy with this situation ! They knew exactly what was going to happen, they had not ordered any food and as such, saved a day of costs on behalf of 200 all inclusive guests.
So a very clear advice : STAY AWAY FROM THIS HOTEL, even consider staying away from Djerba and Tunesia. This country clearly can't handle the freedom they recently got ... I wouldn't be surprise if thing really get out of control. And you don't want to be part of that ...

Room Tip: Stay away from this hotel completely, that's the best room you can get ...

Location - hotel is not on main beach of Djerba, but at the north - east cape of island, in big but not very interesting garden area.

Resort - resort is after renovation, so it is nearly new, but it better looks at pictures than in reality. I did not like kind of design they used for outdoors and indoors as it looks like old and dirty, and used. Lobby is quite dark with lot of cats, and not very friendly reception staff, plus you have to speak french as they pretend they do not speak english...Swimming pool is most beautiful and best place of area, really nice and warm!
Lobby bar and pool bar are ok, nothing special, but beach bar and restaurant are horrible, really need rebuild and renew them! Beach bar - food (rest of breakfast pastry), drinks - soda water and some non alcoholical drinks, almost nothing.Main restaurant is always busy, food is very bad, repeating meals all days, plus you have to come for your lunch or dinner 1 hour before closing, as after that you will not get anything, because food is not refilled! If you like outside eating as i like it beware of cats everywhere, so maybe you will be eating all time in interior, as i did!Spa, gym and interior swimming pool are outdated so i just used swimming pool.

Room - 1st night we got room without balcony, right over staff storage for cleaning rooms, so we changed it into basement room with terrace. Rooms are very dark, no light for reading, safe in wardrobe (no in All incl), no minibar, TV - french and arabic chanells, very small bathroom and ants and cats at terrace all the time...

Beach - nice white sandy beach full of seaweed, rocky entrance to the sea, and wavy sea full of seaweed. Do not swimm so far away as there are strong undercurrents! I know it, because i had to rescue 2 czech women, who just swam in waves and couldn't get back to shore!no beach guard on duty

Weather - September should be a hot month, but we landed in really huge storm which brought heavy raining and floods for 2 days, then sunny days and again rainy days. Next time i will travel in october, as in my previous time, sunny all the time.

Overal - newly renovated hoted, which looks old and ashamed, I did not like look of hotel, plus bad swimming in sea and dirty beach. I can compare it with my previous stay at hotel Djerba Palace - better rooms, area, garden, excellent food, nice staff, and perfect and safe swimming in sea, even hotel is much older.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 7, 2011

When we were picking our 2nd vacation this year it was really tricky, because in June we were in Greece. It was fantastic hotel, but had it's bugs (you can read it in my other review). My girlfriend wanted to go either to Turkey or Tunisia. After some time decision was made - Djerba, Tunisia. I was not big fan of any of these, but now I can say that this was clearly fantastic choice.

Our arrival was on 26th of August. Trip from airport to hotel is about 30 minutes. Hotel looks amazing from outside. I am pretty sure if you have not been yet here, you have not seen anything like this. Completely unusual look. Interior of the reception is great. We were greet by animation team that has attached all inclusive bracelets to our wrists and vacation was about to start. Hotel valet has taken our bags and were walking to our room with number 431.

While walking to the room we have noticed the beautiful looking hotel from the other sides, the houses with guests rooms and the huge pool. In front of the pool was big bar with place to dance. After a while we have entered the room. It looked really nice and clean so did the bathroom. Room was nice. It has of course A/C, Sat TV, small terrace. Only problem in room was the bed. It was not classic twinbed for couple, but 2 single beds closed one to another. And they were on wheels. So during the night there would occur a small gap. Not a big problem to us, but it may disturb some people.

Beach was really nice. White sand, Azure sea. Dechchairs and umrellas on the beach are free for guests. Don't be surprised by horses and camels there. There are many domestic guys offering you nice trips around. We were on horses for 2 hours ride. It was really nice. We have also managed to swim with the horse in the sea while sitting on him. Definitely would recommend that.

There is pool bar on the beach, where you can get beer, wine and some non-alcoholic drinks. There is also beach resturant where you can have lunch, if you don't want to go to the main restaurant.

Food is really good. There is something for everyone. We did not had any stomach problems as people do claim to have in Tunisia. But just make sure to drink water from the cans and closed bottles. You can get that everywhere.

Hotel has GREAT animation team. Guys are simply the best animation team I have seen so far. During the day you can play: volleyball, water polo, archery, french balls, football. You can do aeroic, arabic dance classes, table tennis, tenis.. Basically anything you can think of. In the night they are doing the shows in the hotel theatre. Every night something different - from Michael Jackson shows (they have one great imitator of Michael Jackson) to Lord Of The Dance shows, Magician shows, etc. - really worth going to watch. After the animation team is done with the performance you can go to Disco Club, which is located directly in the hotel.

If you want to get out of the complex, really close is Crocodile farm. It is safe and really cool to look at. We have also went on the quads. It's 2 hours trip in Touristic Zone. They will take you to see how the domestic people live, then you will go on the sand dunes, to Blue Laguna. Very nice trip, would also recommend it.

There is so much I could talk about the hotel and possibilities there that it would take pages.. To summarize, I recommend this hotel. Service, people, food, beach, animation - everything is great. English speaking people may find sometimes difficult to discuss something, but they will do their best to help you. Should you face any problems on the room, go to the reception and they will fix it right away. Oh and yes, make sure when you come first day to hotel, to give at least 10 TND (Tunisian Dinars) to the reception guy. They will remember that and will definitely treat you even better. Also do the same on the room for the cleaning lady. You will be surprised what they can do with the towels to surprise you when you come tired of the sun to the room.

I will try to add some pictures later on.

Room Tip: Give 10 TND to the receptionist.

Service- I locked my key in the room. The man was half-hour and he came after three calls on reception. It was a Tunisian meaning of coming on time. But other things was ok.
Room- Most of the time I was outside not in the room. Bed was enough good for me. And the butterfly made from my pyjama was more than I expect.
Restaurant- The best thing for my bad eating habits. I was eating properly cooked food. It was healthy. I skip the table with french fries and other bad things I dont ussualy eat. Everything else is very edible.
Beach- Most of the people were whining about seaweeds and the temperature of water and so on. I loved the beach. I dont care about the seaweeds, about temperatu of water and so on. You can play beach volleyball and enjoy it.
Pool - a bit cooler than sea. The best thing against hot african sun was the pool. Activities like water gymnastic and water polo were very funny.
Animation team/Activities- With no doubt best animation team ever. They were talking to people, making great evening shows. And saving not so excelent thinfs about this hotel. I miss them all. The person who said the were annoying just doesnt like the company of people in good mood. These people in animation team are working very hard to make us smile. And people if you dont like others go somewhere to wasteland!

Hotel is nice, pool area`s perfect but that`s it.Beds are so hard that after two weeks you need massage...Entertainmentgroup is annoying and if you don`t speak french or italian, you can`t understand anything because their english was lousy.
Restaurant staff is really rude most of the time, food was okay but nothing more.
Trip to Sahara was the best!!!
Overall it was okay holiday but there are better hotels.
I would recommend it just because the pool is great.

We were five mum`s and six children staying at Club Rimel. The service and attitude the staff had at Club Rimel was not GOOD. They had no respect for us or our children. They did not speak english. The plates, glasses , knife and forks was dirty. The pool area was nice and very good for children.
