Just returned from a trip to Alexandria Bay in the Thousand Islands Region. It was our anniversary and all the advertising pointed us to Capt's Landing in the Captain Thomson's Resort, the only floating restaurant in the 1000 Islands. The ambience and the view from our table was breathtaking. Even the very slight swaying of the restaurant added a nice touch. We requested a table by the window when we made our reservation and at first were turned down and then my husband explained we were celebrating our anniversary and we were told that they would see what they could do to accomodate us. It's a shame the food was terrible. I knew we were in trouble the minute they served our salad which was warm and the iceberg lettuce and cucumbers were dried out(probably from being made from old lettuce or made so far ahead of time and then left out). I ordered Shrimp Scampi (with the Chef's secret sauce recipe!) and my Husband ordered the 16oz prime Rib done medium. The secret Shrimp Scampi Sauce was a Souffle cup filled with a butter/Olive oil concoction with the diced garlic you would buy in a bottle in a store packed in olive oil, with five boiled shrimp hanging over the sides of this souffle dish and then plopped in the middle of some overdone and flat tasting angel hair(a very small protion) and a wedge of lemon on the side of the plate. The angel hair was not cooked in salted water and was as bland as bland can be. Even after adding salt and asking for grated cheese(which took about ten minutes to get), it still lack flavor because there was very little "secret sauce". The prime rib which was ordered done medium, came out RARE. I mean rare. By the time my husband got to the middle it was practically raw, so raw that he actually had a hard time cutting it with the steak knife. I told him to send it back and have them cook it more, but he saw how long it took for me to get the grated cheese and said it wasn't worth it. The glimpses we caught of our waitress was long enough to ask for another cup of iced tea and ask for take out boxes. and the check. Even after seeing how much we had left on our plates, the waitress did not even ask if there was something wrong with our meals. She plopped down the take out containers and the check and told us to have a nice evening. If you like ambience more than a good meal this is the place to eat. If you are looking for good food - stay away!
