resort is very conveniently located in bangtao. with lots of eateries and restaurant along the beach which you can just walk out from the hotel. a little tesco lotus supermarket is just 5 mins drive away or 10 mins walk. you can buy most of your groceries there. there is a night market also opposite the tesco on thursday nights and it is quite big but i suspect prices are slightly more inflated compared to bangkok's. so alot of negotiation and haggling is needed. we stayed in the royal pool access studio room which was the highlight for my 5 yrs old son coz you can just wake up and take a dip outside your room. very convenient if you have a pack schedule while on touring the country. there is a table and chairs and pool decks outside the room too. so we could just eat our lunch indoors while watching our son swim (the pool wasnt too deep). the area is well shaded too with lots of trees so it was not too sunny. but many of the other guest would sun bathe at the other pools which are more open. the room had a well stocked kitchenette (microwave, fridge, cups, glasses, wine glasses, plates, cutleries, wash detergent, sponge, lots of bowls, salad bowls, scissors...). very well planned. they even gave mosquito repellent device which was good as we were at the bottom floor and some mosquitoes did fly in from outside.
breakfast was good with alot of selection. even though it was always packed, the hotel staff was always able to find us a table and help us with our enquiries. one must understand that this hotel is target to mostly scandinavians so 90% of the guests are from either russia/ germany/ sweden etc. but we were ok with that. they had many kids activities which was interesting but was all in swedish (understandable). the abba show was very professional and entertaining. beach was very clean and we could even see little anchovies swimming. however, just to note the seats or sunbathing decks on the beach are not owned by the hotel. the locals there charge 200-300 bahts per day for that. there are many peddlers with floats, beach wear, sun dresses, toys on the beach. but they tend to sell those items 2X or 3X more than the night market. massage (oil massage or thai massage) by the beach (under the hotel management, 300 bahts for 60 min), was great. just note that during peak season and especially around 3-5pm, there will be a crowd there so you may need to wait. they do pedicure and braid hairs too. we rented a car from David car rental so we could go to phuket fantasea, patong (jungceylon is a must) and around the area. the hotel was always accomodating to us to help us find a car park within their hotel grounds even tho it was peak season. the minimart in the hotel was well stocked and quite reasonably priced. they had movenpick ice cream in the cafe next to the minimart. we enjoyed our stay there and hope to come back again.
