“Good choice in Phuket”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 3, 2013

It was really nice and relaxing staying in Banyan Tree Phuket. The staff were very friendly and professional. The breakfast buffet was really good. The transportation within the resort and the laguna area is free whether by shuttle, buggy or bicycle.
Our deluxe villa could have done with some updating. the shower is not well banlanced between hot and cold water.

Dear TripAdvisor member,

Thank you so much for sharing your feedback on your recent stay with us. We are glad to hear that you enjoyed our breakfast buffet and our associates. They are our best asset! Since we introduce bikes a few years ago, they have been the most popular way of exploring our expansive resort. We take note of your feedback regarding your villa and the inconsistent water temperature. We have asked an engineer to look into it. I do look forward to seeing you back soon and would certainly recommend a villa in our Banyan Tree Spa Sanctuary for an endless tranquility. We look forward to having you back on your next visit to the island,

Warm regards,

We stayed in one of the private pool villas and it was AMAZING!!! From the service to the spa to the hotel staff greeting you wherever (even from like 20 feet away!). First of all, the driver came to pick us up from the airport (THB1700 for a van) and it was around a 30-minute ride. Check-in was smooth, and we rode the buggy to our villa. It's around a 2-minute ride on the buggy from the hotel lobby to the villa (or a 4- to 5-minute walk by foot). Though thunderstorms were in the weather forecast, it didn't rain at all during our stay. We stayed in the resort the entire time. I went for the Lomi Lomi massage as well as the Royal Banyan package at the spa. Both treatments were absolutely divine! The therapists were well mannered and well trained, and the ambience (including the scents!) was perfect! We ate at the Watercourt, Saffron, Tre and the restaurant overlooking the golf course. Food was alright though dinner was expensive; service was impeccable. My kid got to eat free (kid's meal at lunch time) at the restaurant overlooking the golf course. The breakfast buffet boasted a variety of choices, and you will leave the breakfast table full! The private (stretch of the) beach was only a minute away from our villa. But for some reason, every time we went, the red flag was up!... Wrong timing, I suppose, but then again, we enjoyed our time in our private pool! The backyard, complete with lounge chairs amidst luscious greens, also overlooked the lagoon. There is a boat (complimentary) that takes you to the other resorts.
What I want to emphasize is the remarkable service! We got complimentary bubbly as an anniversary gift on the first day (we went to celebrate our anniversary). One day, I had asked customer service to have someone make up the room while we went out to lunch, since my kid needed to take an afternoon nap. But when we returned, the room wasn't made up yet. I called them again and asked them to come later on in the afternoon, after my kid finished his nap. Anyway, they gave us a (huge) complimentary food basket and apology note just for coming late! All in all, it was a relaxing vacation. We had a fabulous stay here, and we will definitely be back!

Dear BB100,

Warm greetings from Banyan Tree Phuket. Thank you so much for your wonderful feedback! It has been shared with the rest of the team and we shall keep up the good work. I am delighted to hear that you had an amazing holiday with us in enjoying a series of great service experiences by our team. I am particularly pleased to know that you got to indulge in the spa treatments. Apologies for not making up the villa as there seem to have been some miscommunication. However, glad that we could turn it around. It is rather unfortunate that the beach conditions did not allow you to swim but, hope you will return before October when the weather is better and to take advantage one more time of the “Family Fun Package” where kids below 12 dine for free in all of the hotel restaurants within the Laguna plus free golf, tennis etc.

Warm regards,

We stayed for 2 nights in May 2013. The service is top notch and consistent from concierge to cleaning staff. We had a mosquito problem with our first garden deluxe villa but were transferred to another room without any incident. The room was clean and well furnished. The bed was a little too soft for my bad back. We were provided a mosquito net for our bed so never had a problem with mosquitos. The free bikes were nice to have and helped us get around the large property. The buggy service was also very nice and FAST! Everytime they were at our villa within a minute or two. The beach was unswim able during our stay due to rip currents. The Saffron restaurant was moderately priced and delicious. The spa is excellent but overpriced. Taxi fares to and from the resort is the worst part. It is 700 Bhatt to get anywhere.

Dear Hwangdds,

Thank you for your balanced review. I am proud to hear that from our concierge to housekeeping to the Spa, all our associates have made your stay special. Being within an integrated resort with access to so many hotels, shopping and activities all easily accessible with our free transfer services are a tremendous advantage to holidaying here. Although depending on weather patterns, the currents do allow one to swim, we err on the side of caution. However, I do hope that you enjoy a great sunset, kayaking or canoeing in the lagoon. While we understand that we are not close to Patong or Phuket town, this is what makes Laguna a peaceful oasis. . I also want to highlight that the hotel provides free pick-up and drop-off to Phuket town and Patong for a nominal amount. While the Phuket local government is trying to enforce a “Meter” taxi system, it is in its infancy. This means one has to rely on fixed price taxis to get around. Dear Hwangdds, thanks once again for sharing your holiday experience.

Warm regards,
Sriram Kailasam

This is one of the best hotels we have stayed in, our pool villa was amazing, close to both the lagoon and the beach, highly recommended if going to Phuket, the complex transport is regular and free, breakfast is amazing!

Room Tip: Go for a pool villa!

Banyan Tree is synonymous with luxury so expectations are high upon arrival but in true 5 star style a mood of enjoyment and relaxation is inspired immediately after arrival. It's the little things that make the difference, welcoming guests by name and a personal tour of our accommodation sets the mood and level of service to be expected during our stay. The lady that welcomed us also took a moment to highlight features of the resort that shall make our stay more enjoyable.

Our villa was comfortable, featuring soft lighting, large bathroom, outdoor jacuzzi and tropical landscaping. The chilled champagne and fruit basket caught our attention upon arrival - what a wonderful welcoming gift that instantly creates a sense of luxury. Small features in the room such as candles and oil burners are a notable inclusion that also really enjoyed.

The villa featured all the expected comforts however only criticism is the size of the lounge and access to the bed. Considering the lounge is the only place to sit down within the villa we felt it was a touch to small and uncomfortable, also the bed was quite uncomfortable is only 15cm above floor level hence it kind of feels like sleeping on the floor. Fellow older guests complained about difficulties getting in and out of the bed because it is so low..

On our first day we enjoyed the complimentary bicycles to cruise around the resort, it is much larger than expected and we really enjoyed the adventure. We felt very safe and had great fun exploring all the tracks.

Dining at a Banyan Tree was a great experience, the level of service is exceptional. At any moment we wanted to order or ask a question staff were immediately attentive.. simply cast your eyes in the direction of staff and they are with you in a flash to provide assistance.. We dined at the Tamarind restaurant and ordered Japanese dishes, food was ok although we flet better quality could be obtained from other nearby restaurants outside the resort, we both also awoke the next morning with sore stomachs.
Breakfast Buffet is fantastic, great range and options to suit all preferences. Who would think mango sticky rice for breakfast would be so popular! Buffet included Western, Thai, Chinese and even Japanese..

Points I hope the resort reads from this post;
*On the first night the maids arrived at the villa at 10pm for turn down, bit late to be offering at this time and was considered more of an inconvenient intrusion.
*Second day, our room service plates were placed at the front door by the maid and they stayed there for an entire day attracting ants and flys.
*We love the little gifts every day, what a great touch and way to remember the great experience long after checkout.. Really appreciated this !!
*Cocktails at Breakfast and Elephant appearances are great ways to put a smile on the guests faces every morning. A wonderful touch, the Korean and Japanese guests all loved the elephant and I'm sure made their stay so much more memorable.
*All the staff around the resort were so friendly, It is so welcoming to receive a big smile and hello from all staff as we explored the resort. Cleaners, gardeners, technician and even outside contractors all contributed to our daily smiles ... :)
*We returned one evening to observe a wonderful Thai style buffet meal set up at the Safron restaurant, this was disapointing because we had actually just gone outside the resort for a traditional Thai meal and had we known this was being served would have dined at the Buffet - the food looked sensational ! I would reccomend the resort prepares a notice board or includes any special dining options on the daily activities notices.

We tried the Spa treatments also, all very nice but massively overpriced compared to local rates, guess it is to be expected in a resort like this.. 1hr Oil massage at Banyan Tree cost 4,200THB, local Massage & Spa shops charge around 400 THB. It was a very nice experience but dont feel like it is value for money.

Pool area is great, there is a horizontal waterfall in the pool which is fun to carried in. The small private steam rooms are also great however access to them is very poorly designed.

There are daily activities however we didnt find out about them till the last day, I booked in for the tennis session and had a great hit with the instructor (Khun Pas). really enjoyed the exercise and the tips he passed to me for improving my tennis style.

We really enjoyed the stay at Banyan Tree Phuket and would definitely return,
Highlights were the small gifts every day, the rooms (and how well equipped they are), bike riding and the landscaping.
Negatives were the comfort of the bed and sofa in the room.

Room Tip: All the rooms appear to quite similar, we were located close to the main lobby which was convenient...

Dear Scview,

Thank you for taking your valuable time in sharing us 360 degrees feedback. It is always a pleasure to read through a well-balanced elaborate review; it not only served as an inspiration but also opportunities for improvement. We are glad that your stay was almost perfect with a few suggestions. We realize that it’s the little things that make the difference leaving the first and last impression on our guests. Although you have pointed out more positives than negatives, I am addressing the areas for improvement as these are key for us and the readers.

It appears that you have selected to stay in our deluxe villas which have the Thai style “Than” mattresses which are actually very comfortable as they are not based on springs. However, when we get feedback that they are slightly uncomfortable to get in and out of, we are happy to raise the bed height with a second mattress. Your point regarding the lounge chair is noted. As regards to the Japanese cuisine, we are very fortunate to have a very experienced Master Japanese chef. He hand selects seafood for the restaurant and you can rest assured that he would not accept anything but, the freshest. We are particularly wary of quality and freshness given that we are in the tropics. Our chef has been made aware of your feedback. As regards to communication of F&B events in the resort, I am surprised because, we have a “Daily Activity Sheet”, a daily newsletter which is left in every villa to advise guests of the weather for the day, beach conditions, F&B events, Activities for kids and adults with timing, scent of the day etc. It looks like you missed it. We are now working on an electronic version to send to your smart gadget or phone, should be launched soon. I am glad you enjoyed our Spa treatments and admittedly our prices are a bit on a high side but the quality of our highly trained therapists and treatment villas are truly superior.

Dear Scview, I truly admire and appreciate guests, who give such balanced objective reviews. We look forward to welcoming you back in the near future and I hope you will try our signature pool villas, which have normal raised beds!! Safe travels,
Warm regard,

Sriram Kailasam

The hotel, staff, rooms and view where outstanding. I have enjoyed every minute I stayed in Banyan Tree. They are willing to do what ever it takes to make your stay pleasant and comfortable. The house keeping are amazing they clean your room twice a day. The breakfast buffet was from heaven. You name it you will find it. The spa was like a dream. The golf course was beautiful. You are treated as a King.

Room Tip: Any Villa is a great room

We stayed in a pool villa which was absolutely stunning. Very spacious, beautifully appointed with our own 10m x3m pool which we could step into from the bedroom! it also had a lovely garden. Frangapanni trees, a sala and more garden through to the lagoon.
The resort is large but bicycles are provided free of charge.
The main pool area is fantastic.
The spa would be the best we have encountered.
We will stay there again.

Room Tip: Definitely stretch to a pool villa.

Dear GarryRA,

Thank you very much for your kind review coming from the wonderful Warnambool in Victoria (hope it is this one that you stay in!), which I have had the pleasure of driving while on the Great Ocean road. It is wonderful to read how much you enjoyed the privacy and comfort of our pool villa. I am particularly happy to hear that your treatment at our Banyan Tree Spa was the best you have ever encountered and will surely pass your positive feedback on to our dedicated spa therapists. For your next visit, I recommend you a stay at our Spa Sanctuary resort offering packages with unlimited massages in the privacy of your own Thai Sala. We look forward to welcoming you back to Phuket in the near future.

Kind regards,
Sriram Kailasam
