Despite being literally 5 minutes from the airport, Perennial Resort is 400m from one of the quietest and most low key beaches in Phuket, because the shoreline here is a national park. Food and drinks are still available on the beach from motorcycle vendors parked on the street, but there are no hawkers, and few foreigners. It's mostly Thais who enjoy this part of the beach, and it is pretty easy to find a shaded spot of sand because the beach is backed by a stand of old Casuarina trees, so no need for beach umbrellas. The main drawback is that there is a fair amount of trash on the beach, but we feel that's a small price to pay for such a natural beach in such a central location. Great for families.
The resort itself is lovely, the young owners are super friendly and helpful, the food is great, and the grounds are perfect for kids to run around on. The pool and several new units will be finished in a month. There is a selection of beach toys for kids to take to the beach with them, a hammock, and a big tree swing.
There are several good and cheap Thai street stalls just down the street, and a few more foreigner-oriented places including a pizza place on the main street 600m away.
Minuses? The garden is not a super lush tropical jungle, but because of it is probably a better place for kids to romp in. There is construction next door at the moment, but it didn't actually bother us. If you've been to a Thai beach before, you know that there is always construction somewhere, unless you are in a large gated resort, which is not our thing. The living rooms of the villas don't have AC, so if you need to close the bedroom door, you have to rely on the fan. However, the living room has two doors to the outside, and so you can get a good cross-breeze going. The owners are also considering adding AC to the living rooms, so you may want to ask about that.
