“End of Year Break”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 13, 2012

The reason we chose the Mangosteen was because we got a really good deal trough an internet coupon deal (Which we upgraded and had breakfast included, this turned out to be a good thing as there weren’t to many places around close enough to go for breakfast and still use the resort facilities) plus the Resort was marketed as a Couples only (Over 33 years of age) resort.
It turned out not to be an Adults only resort with numerous couples having children there which was a bitter disappointment for us after we where assured a week before with a personal phone call from the resort that there would be no children there during the time that we were booked in for. (We have nothing against children however sometimes a person just wants peace and quite with no noisy children around and the Resort is marketed as couples only).

It turned out to be a time share resort and we were expected to undergo a tour of the property because we got the deal so cheap (Nothing was mentioned when booked the deal over the internet). To be truthful we did not get a hard sell and all the staff were very friendly even after they realised that timeshare was not for us. They showed us the rooms that had being done up and all the guests that we chatted to after our tour also said the same thing that they showed them the newly renovated rooms and we all were staying in older rooms, this got me to thinking that how many rooms had being renovated and were there only a couple of rooms renovated just for the Time share presentation.

On the whole we had a very good time at the Mangosteen however we found the resort to be a little isolated for us from a convenience side of things and a little to far from the beach as well even though the Resort did offer a shuttle service to and from the closest beach to say the least we walked a lot.

Dear Lionel and Linda, thanks for staying at Mangosteen and for your positive review. It is correct saying that we market the resort as Romantic Getaway for couples but we also mention in our promotions, "but children can stay". There has never been any advertising saying that children are not welcome but we don't promote for families. Therefore there are not many children in the resort and the once we have staying here are usually well aware of the fact that people want a quiet and peaceful environment. If you were disturbed by children, we are sorry to hear that.

We are in the process of renewing and upgrading 2 villas per month. We have shown you the new rooms because this will be the standard in the resort very soon. For 2013, we close one building with 2 rooms every month to upgrade, which means by the end of the year 24 rooms will be equal to the new standard.

We do not call our product timeshare but we do have a Club Mangosteen, offering a pure Mangosteen membership for return guests as well as a worldwide travel package.

My family of 2 adults and 2 children aged 5 & 7 stayed at Mangosteen for 7 nights late November 2012. We were using a very cheap internet voucher (can't remember which) & when booking chose to upgrade for not much more. We had such a wonderful time! Mangosteen is incredibly peaceful with such beautiful gardens and the swimming pool is to die for! Our villa had views of the sea which is what we woke to each morning - pure bliss. When we wanted a change of atmosphere, a complimentary hourly open shuttle bus took us to the local Nai Harn beach where we swam in the sea and dined with our toes in the sand (if choosing an alternative from the excellent resort dining). We had a 'meeting' on arrival to introduce us to the 'club' which we could join - & although it would suit many people, it wasn't for us and we felt no pressure from the sales people for the rest of our stay. I worried that my children might disturb the peaceful surroundings, however the delightful owner of Mangosteen set my mind at ease by playing with the children in the pool from time to time - of course, common sense would apply with regards to monitoring your own kids' noise levels but we were always made to feel welcome and special - particularly the children. We would definitely stay at Mangosteen again :)

Your children have been most lovely and equipped with their water guns, it was fun playing with them. You should come back for Songkran (Thai New Year, April 13th) as this would be great fun for them. It is correct that we promote "Romantic Getaway for couples" because of the style of the resort, however children are allowed of course. It is just not our marketing focus to advertise towards the family market. I must say, it is very rarely that we have noisy kids at the resort, mostly they are not disturbing anybody but I have seen reviews on TripAdvisor from people who have been disturbed by the pure presence of children. Kind of disagreeing with this and believe, a little bit tolerance can be helpful sometimes. Thanks again for staying with us and please come back any time.

Dave & Dee
We have read all the Negitive Reveiws on the mangosteen before we left as you do, And now we are back from spending 10 days there I will give you an honest opinion on what we experienced.
My partner and I booked our accomodation threw cudo on a $279.00 voucher and upgraded to a deluxe jaccuzi we had no trouble getting the dates we wanted and they were more than helpful even rang us to confirm everything and to let us know were we would be picked up at the airport.
I was a little sceptical even as we landed in phuket, We walked from the terminal 1hr late and as they had promised our driver was there waiting in a late model van took us straight to the mangosteen resort the 100metres of lane leading to the driveway is a little rough and that is the only accurate thing we found from tthe negitive reveiws every other negitive comment we have read is unbelievable to us.
The resort is beautiful the staff are terrific , rooms were great , if your not interested in the time share they dont treat you any different we seen that with our own eyes,The food was brilliant yes it is more expensive than in the street but your in a resort ! So compared to every other resort we have been in its not expensive, The owner and his wife are there nearly every day and are lovely people very approachable and cant do enough to help you.
All in all we had a fantastic time and we will be back its beautiful and just far enough away from patong that you get the best of both worlds.

Hi Dave and Dee, great to see your review on TripAdvisor! We would like to thank you for becoming members at Mangosteen. It's fantastic having you on board and seeing you again soon.

I have already published it but would like to repeat once more for other readers: The road leading to the resort is a public road and we received good news from the local government in the meantime. The budget has been approved for 2013, so we will get an entirely new road. After 10 years of "hobbling" towards our entrance, it will be a completely new experience. :) Looking forward to this.

We enjoyed our time at the Magosteen. Breakfast had everything you would normally expect, and had plenty of options & variety. I treated my self to a spa package, which was probably expensive by Thai standards, but was still cheap by aussie standards. The spa service was very professional, friendly and extensive. I also got a basic manicure & pedicure at a buisness at the bottom of the resort lane for about $3 for each service. We hired a scooter which freed us up transport wise. The free bus shuttle to the beach is an excellent service & the food at the beach is amazing and cheap. The resort is also easy walking distance to a lot of other food options & also convenience stores for anything you might have forgotten! We also enjoyed the fact that this is not a childrens resort & is aimed more at adults. The pool area was very nice as well. We have travelled to a few different countries & this was the first time we have made friends while being away. The smaller size of the resort makes it more personal & easy to interact with other people. PArt of our package included a holiday club presentation. We didn't take up the offer, but didn't feel pressured & the lads involved in selling the club were all nice blokes just doing their jobs. It's a shame that the Mangosteen doesn't have it's own holiday club just for themselves, as I would certainly be interested in going back there down the track. Overall we had a good trip, I loved Phuket & am looking forward to returning in the future.

Appreciate your review, thank you very much. We can certainly tailor a package for you, if you are interested in a Mangosteen Club only. You may contact us directly any time you like. Obviously, we would love to see many return guests which is the whole purpose of the club. Anyway, great to hear everything else was fine and that you made friends at the resort. See you again in Phuket!

My wife and I had a fantastic 7 days at Mangosteen in November. From the driver pickup at the airport to the welcoming happy staff at checkin and the restaurant we couldnt have wanted better service. We were invited to a meeting to join the Mangosteen Club which was a global timeshare concept and was agreed by us prior to getting our discount accomodation. We met our rep Ian for lunch on the second day and enjoyed the benefit of some great tips on what to do and see while in Phuket. Ians approach was low key and after a couple of hours lunching, chatting and seeing the info in full my wife and I agreed that we really enjoyed the meeting and would think about the offer. We didnt sign up this trip but are still open minded about it. Loaded with tips on what to do we asked front desk to get us a car ($40 a day) and we set off exploring some truly wonderful parts of Phuket. Some hightlights were the Rawai sea gypsy village where you can buy superb fresh caught seafood ie. lobster($30kg), coral trout ($10kg), king prawns ($8kg) for a song and have it cooked next door in a quality restaurant for $3 per kg in any Thai style you like, the beaches at Kata Noi and Kata were beaut, the Premium Outlets for cheap quality western goods shopping, the hidden bars off the tourist maps with views to die for and cheap prices, the sunset lookouts, Naiharn the little oasis for great cheap thai cafe food and drinks right on a lovely beach, the secret cove near the port which has magnificent bays, a couple of beachfront bars and stunning scenery, elephant safari, Fantasea show and we even chartered our own 35' game fishing boat for a day for $300 for just the two of us. Our trip to Mangosteen resort was one of our best ever holidays. It is located in a great spot for all the things we did and with a car Phuket is not that big to get around. The staff, rooms, spa (500 minutes was brilliant) and resort facilities were top notch. The pool was stunning. Nar was in charge of running the best breakfasts in Phuket and Kat at front desk was super efficient in organising anything we needed. These girls were standouts. It was our first trip to Thailand but we will definitely return and would happily stay at Mangosteen again and we feel so lucky that we got the local knowledge from Ian. The big thing I learned from my experience with all the staff at Mangosteen and the Thai people in general was that a warm smile, positive attitude and an open mind will make sure that you have one of the best holidays possible.

Room Tip: We stayed in the deluxe jacuzzi room which was mid range. It was fantastic with private outdoor jacu...

We just returned from the Mangosteen,we had a lovely time. The resort itself was gorgeous and very clean, the pool was superb. We did upgrade to a jacuzzi room which was great but we heard the standard rooms were just fine.It is abit isolated but we new that and it actually suited us better that way.The food was delicious, breakfast was great. We couldn't have asked for anymore and we have travelled the world numerous times. The chef's are very approachable and accommodating. We did the cooking class which we had a lot of fun.It was a full house when we were there, but you wouldn't have known. The spa was fabulous which took a package for 500 mins for approx $300 odd Australian dollars,we went everyday for a treatment. We did go to the membership meeting,it is not for us and we were left alone after saying no.You did notice the salesman hanging around particularly in the restaurant which annoyed me abit, but they were nice men and very friendly and after all they are just trying to make a living and do their job.All the staff were lovely.Nai Harn Beach was very nice just a short trip.I would say this resort is probably 4 star, but if you want an action fast paced resort then this resort is not for you.We wanted total relaxation and that's what we got.I probably wouldn't go back again as we have been to Thailand before as well but if we did I would certainly stay at the Mangosteen again

Mangosteen Resort is awesome!! My husband and I stayed in October using a Cudo voucher. We paid additional for the upgrade to the Royal Jacuzzi Suite and was very pleased we did, as our room was lovely and had amazing district and sea views, which we enjoyed watching from the jacuzzi on the balcony. The resort is absolutely beautiful and the owner and staff were so hospitable, friendly and charming, by the time we left some felt like old friends. Special mention should go to Nati, Jomi and Mac aka Tom Cruise, they are a credit to the resort and made us feel very welcome. The spa and it's staff were appreciated also, the massages were absolute bliss. The resort is located out of the way of the crowds, in a quiet area, and is only a short journey to Nai Harn beach on the resorts courtesy shuttle which runs frequently each day. We enjoyed some lovely tours and memorable adventures such as elephant trekking at Siam Safari, organised by the hotel. The resorts cocktails and food were delicious and the breakfast omelets were so good. If supplies are needed 7-11 and Tesco area 10 -15 minute walk away amongst some small cafes and restaurants. We arrived with an open mind not knowing what to expect but could not have experienced better for what we paid, it was really relaxing. A highlight for us was that it is really a couples resort, so there were no kids at the resort, soooo peaceful, especially when enjoying the stunning pool slurping on a Mangosteen Sunrise. We can't stop talking about our experience there. We stayed 8 nights but wished we could have stayed much longer, next time we definitely will.

Room Tip: If you can, try to book a Royal Jacuzzi Villa. It was so lovely, very spacious with a fantastic jacu...
