“Everything we expected”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 7, 2011

Cha-Am is a Thai holiday destination with not many non-Thai visitors, and definitely very few southern hemisphere visitors so English is not one of the primary languages spoken. but we had no problem at all communicating with either the hotel staff, taxi drivers or locals, everyone was very helpful and friendly. Because it is mainly a Thai destination, nothing is really overpriced either at the hotels, restaurants or taxis.

We chose Bann Pantai because of its boutique size (31 rooms and villas in total). Bann Pantai is in the best location, right in the centre of North and South Cha-Am. It is right across the road from the beach, although the salt water pool is so big, very clean, all day sun, loungers and and is very inviting. There are restaurants, street vendors and 7/11s very short walking distances. The breakfast caters to a wide international range of tastes (they just need to replenish it a bit more frequently). And the hotel restaurant is also very good for lunch or dinner.

We booked a superior room on the 2nd floor, which was a good size, a decent size bathroom (shower only). It had a balcony which got the afternoon sun. The ground floor rooms, corner rooms and villas also looked very good. The gym was pretty basic, but perfectly adequate. There was also a table tennis table.

All in all we would definitely recommend this hotel if you are visiting Cha-Am.

We traveled a goup of friends to Cha Am for a weekend. When we was checking in, we had to pay in advance for the whole weekend. The problem was that only one of the receptionists had any idea how the system worked. One receptionist just stood there and looked at us while the other one looked through a million documents. I thing we used over an hour to check in to four rooms... The system seemed to complicated and I do not feel like using over 20 minutes to check in!

Two of the rooms needed to get back to Bangkok and wanted to check out one night earlier. This seemed to be a problem. First the staff said they needed to email booking.com (were we made the reservation) and ask them if that was OK with them and a confirmation if it was OK. They send the email and not later after booking.com answered and said they have done everything in their power but the HOTEL staff said it wasn't OK. My friends asked if they could talk to the hotel manager, the receptionist said he would come the next day. When they went down the next morning and asked for the manager, the receptionists said he wouldn't be coming after all. So, the story ends with one of the rooms check out earlier, but had to pay a large fee.

After their check out we had to put one person extra in our room. We asked the receptionist if they could put a extra bed in our room. That was OK, but we need to pay 1000 baht extra. When we told her the others only paid 700 baht for their extra bed she was sort of shocked and after 15 minutes we got the extra bed for 700 baht as well...

After all of these, when I was my clothes at the laundry service at the hotel they washed dark colored clothes with light colored clothes. This ended up with three items I never can wear again. I did not need to pay the laundry service, but I did not receive any for the broken clothes...

The restaurant some how never got our orders right. I had to ask for a soup three times before it came. They do not speak English very well. Every meal we had there was some how mixed up...

The hotel facilities are nice, it is clean in the rooms, and nice outside. But the staff who not speak English well (some not at all), do not know anything about costumer service or how to wash clothes.. I would not recommend this hotel to anybody! It was a terrible experience for my friends and I... And the beach across the street are a "thai beach", so you need to wear something to cover your knees and shoulders when you want to take a swim in the ocean... Not nice...

This is a small and intimate hotel / resort. Everything in Cha Am is within walking or cycling distace (hire a cycle for 80 - 100 Bht per day) The breakfasts are lovely, high quality selections with lots of variety if you are staying for a week or more. We thought the staff were angles. Well appointed and relaxing the rooms are pleasant and very clean. The pool is big and crystal clear, they run the pumps during the day so the evening is very quiet. Wireless free internet - just get the codes from the office for a few days ahead. This is a great place and deserves to be Number 1.

Cha Am is a very small and quiet fishing village and holdiay destination for Thais, so you really see the Thai culture there. Great places to eat - just try everything. We loved Grandmama's a small place run by laides all qualitifed grandma's and fabulous cooks. This is located a few blocks south of the Bann Patai, no signage but the name is on the menu. They made the best Tom Yum, and it is not on the menu, just ask nicely and smile.

Cha Am Food
3 doors down from the grandmama's is the most amazing place for evening eating only. Hot coals are placed in a earthenware dish, in a hole in the middle of the table. A special purpose made soup.grilling dish is placed over the top of the coals. Then stock or water are added to the top dish which you grill your meat on and the juices run into the stock, where you are cooking your vegies. This is done under the supervision of a cold beer by you, and onlly takes a few minutes for each round. Noodles can be added to the stock. Dipping sauces are provided and when you have finished your meat and vegies, add some dipping sauce to the stock or water and then you have the mostly heavenly soup you can imagine. This was one of the culinary highlights to our travells.

Cha Am is quaint and you see part of the real Thailand.

A very nice hotel in a quiet area by the beach....
On arrival we looked at all the possible rooms available and chose the standard room...the villa was roomy but the shower in the standard room was much better..
The pool area is really lovely, clean and beautiful.......
the hotel is situated across the street from the beach (like all hotels in cha am).....
the breakfast was okay and the staff were extremely friendly....nice area overlooking the beach..... we had dinner a couple of times and it was very nice.
it is not a 5 star hotel but a nice 4 star......

We really enjoyed our stay at the hotel. We spent 12 days in a Jacuzzi villa, and the villa was perfect. It is new, modern, stylish and clean. The pool is big and our 5 year old had a blast there. The staff is always available and very helpful, this goes for everyone from the reception to housekeeping and the staff at the restaurant. Food at the restaurant was fine, and they had a good menu covering lunch and dinner with reasonable prices. Breakfast was also fine with fresh fruit, bread, eggs made to order, small pancakes etc – it even had a nice selection of Thai food. We would definitely go there again, and recommend it to anyone, both families and couples in every age.

We have been to Cha-am for the last 6 years, having stayed at the Bann Pantai last year and this year. We stayed this time for 3 weeks and the hotel is a gem, its a boutique resort, has the loveliest staff and beautiful rooms. The bonus is the swimming pool, it is very beautiful and clean, plenty of sunbeds around the edge. The beach is across the road. The restaurant also has wonderful meals at reasonable prices. There is also a gym and wifi internet is available.
