“Old, old hotel in the heart of the action”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 3, 2011

The last time I stayed at Patong Resort, I felt it was already quite old. This time around that feeling remains. It seemed like it was stuck in time, with no noticeable improvements that hotels usually get after some decades serving customers. Maybe the repeat clientele like it that way, kind of something familiar year after year.

There is no denying Patong Resort probably has the best location of all the Patong beach hotels. Central, yet set further in enough to be removed from the hubbub of Bang La Road and the surrounding bars. Everything is within walking distance - convenience stores, foot massage, great seafood, and the many, many drinking holes.

Service at the hotel is spotty and mechanical, lacking the sincere, professional warmth of finer establishments. Once the sales executives intervene, it becomes much better, but unfortunately they were not around as often as they could. Our check in at 01.00 hrs. was not smooth. The lone reception person was confused and looked scared.

The rooms are, well, old and dirty. A few cockroaches joined us in the bathroom, the bathtubs were marked and overall the rooms felt musty. The decor was blah. The good thing was the cable TV with plenty of channels to put you to sleep. The breakfast buffet and the restaurant food in general was passable, with some good Phuket dishes on the menu.

A colleague of mine mentioned this could be a great hotel. Unless the owner invests in a major refurbishment, this will not be a reality anytime soon.

The hotel is in a great location with a short walk to the beach-just down a laneway. The laneway is very safe even at night and there is always plenty of people around including security staff for the hotel. The hotel is situated off the main street and is therefore very quiet. The room we stayed in was renovated and nice and clean and overlooked the main street which was colourful at night. I read reviews of this hotel before staying here and now understand the comment of "staff do not speak very good English". Although this is the case, we encountered no problems at all. The reception staff and waiting staff are all very good and always try their best to accommodate your needs. Breakfast is a banquet each day with plenty to choose from. The only complaint is the beds are really "rock hard" however after speaking with house-keeping, a softer mattress overlay was put on the bed. I think this is a common complaint here. All in all our stay was good and I would stay here again. The 2 pool areas are lovely! From this hotel you have everything within walking distance. Cafe's, restaurants, bars, shops, market, beach - what more can you ask for?

Room Tip: Ask for a renovated room.

Let me start in my own style:

Plus Points:
1. Fantastic location. The lane which goes by the back entrance goes to the beach directly. All bars and happening places are within walking distances. Bang-La Road is 5 minutes walk away.
2. Rooms are very spacious.
3. Bath room is big and have decent amenities.
4. Though break fast spread is good, it gets boring to eat same stuff for four straight days. Live egg counter does not provide ''White-only egg omlette".

Minus Points:
1. The front staff and bell-hops should be trained to smile.
2. Their menu spread is quite good, but prices are on the higher side.
3. The worst part is that at night, bathroom gets filled with small cockroaches. Inspite of complaining on first night, even after four nights they did not attend to this problem.
4. Their extra charges are quite stiff.

Try to take rooms in their main wing. They offer better view.
