“Small and Central”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 30, 2008

3 of us stayed 3 nights in this hotel from 15th Sept to 17th Sept.

Location : I would say it is very central, very near to the 200 year old road; and using the back lane, only a short walk to Beach road. Hotel is also very near to Jungceylon - and that pleases my wife. Nearby, one will find construction work ongoing at the moment and it may get a bit dusty and noisy.

Room : The deluxe room was a little small for the 3 of us (with an extra bed in it). The showeroom/toilet is really small. We asked for a kettle and hairdryer prior to our arrival and was very pleased to find that they were put in our room before our arrival.

Breakfast : As it was (extremely) low season - largely due to rooms cancellation, we find the breakfast rather limiting in choice.

Staff : Again due high room cancellation, we got all the help we ever needed and more. Ms Ann (whom i corresponded with via email for my hotel booking) was extremely helpful and accomodating.

I would only stay in this hotel if my stay is short (not more than 3 days).

  • Liked — Quite central
  • Disliked — size of the room and the rather small shower/toilet

Paid very cheap for a balcony room, so I didn't have my expectations up - just a good basic room. They were expecting me when I got in, allowed early check-in and the hotel room was really very nice - nice touches, clean and sanitized, and great value for the price. The decorations were tasteful, and though the pool was a bit small (it is marketed as a small but luxurious hotel after all) there weren't too many guests lounging and you can have it by yourself... that is if you want to with Patong Beach (and Rat-U-Thit Road) just 5 mins away.

They surprised me with a birthday cake, flower basket and card on my bday...! It was a very nice touch, and apart from the room I loved the hotel staff with no exception, especially Koy who helped me book all my tours.

Breakfast was okay, mostly Thai / vegetarian meals. The internet is a bit slow, but good enough if you just want to get in touch with people at home. The only downside is the location - as you need to pass by a small soi going back to the hotel which makes you a bit wary after dark and some transfers will just drop you off the main road. However, there are a few guesthouses along the 5-min walk which makes you feel safe, and a nice restaurant and massage place across the street.

Overall, would suggest to everyone.. just maybe book with someone else (as I travelled alone) since the beds are large and you would want a companion walking back "home".

  • Liked — The great staff!
  • Disliked — Location, but not a deal-breaker...

My stay at Poppa Palace with my family is a pleasant one. Had a nice impression on the hotel when browsing through its website when deciding on the hotel for our phuket trip. Firstly, is because of its name "Palace" and secondly is the nice decoration and we weren't dissapponted at all as the hotel appears just how it looks like on the website. The staffs are friendly and tried their best in answering our queries. Feel welcome when we first reached the hotel with them serving us each a glass of cold orange juice. Although the hotel is not located at the main street, it is only a 5 min walk away and the beach is about 10 mins walk away. Despite the swimming pool is small but it has a jaguzzi which we went to relax ourselves. Their breakfast is nice and they have an egg station which is our favourite. In short, this is a nice hotel and worth giving it a try.

  • Liked — Its nice environment, friendly staff and breakfast.
  • Disliked — None.

We booked the hotel in Phuket via their direct number after reading many favourable reviews on the internet. This place is really really well decorated - just like how its website is. I've got some photos but wont post them because you can rely on its website. The place looks really new and clean with very comfortable beds. The pool is very small which may be a drawback for some people but with the beach only a very short walk away, we didnt find that a problem at all. Another drawback is when we stayed there, to get to the beach you must walk through the back alley which can be a bit offputting for people cos its quite dirty. However if you can deal with that its a perfect place to stay. Its also very well-located and has friendly staff members. We managed to haggle the price down to 1000Bhat during low season in June 2007 but this may not be possible during more popular times. We spent the money we saved by tipping our favourite staff whose name I forget but he's the bellboy and was genuinely helpful throughout our 5-day stay without ever trying to profit from us by selling us over-priced tours.

  • Liked — price & the bellboy who was genuinely helpful and did not try to push tours onto us
  • Disliked — Nothing

Poppa Palace Hotel is a traveller's best dream come true for booking rooms based on an internet address and TripAdisor.com reviews! This place is a jewel. The rooms are spotless, the service is impeccable and the location is at the hub of Phuket's tourist attractions. We were there for NewYear's Eve and January 1/2008. Our stay was blissful and the staff went out of their way to answer all our questions, help us with reservations and guide us through Phuket with a minimal of stress. Their breakfast buffet was the best we experienced throughout our travel in this area. Poppa Palace should be number one for price , service and satisfaction!

A lovely place to stay - we enjoyed it - our favourite place so far into a 3 month backpacking tour (only 2 weeks in so far though !) We paid 1200 baht per night (we negotiated this from 1600 list price) The rooms are clean, well furnished and spacious. The Hotel staff are friendly and efficient and always helpful (although not many speak much more than very basic english) The breakfast was basic but acceptable - typical really of foreigh breakfast. The location was good - about 10 mins. walk from Bamgla Rd and 5-10 mins to the beach via a short cut which was a little precarious - otherwise 15mins the standard route. The location is set back off a main street but although it may look a 'dodgy' backalley - it actually is very safe and secure. The facilities are good. - Information service available and a lovely lobby area. Downsides were - 1) No bar 2) Only a few decent channel on limited TV menu. However, the room had a good Mini Bar and a massage service was available on th 5th floor, albeit a touch more expensive that standard (but prob. more comfortable)

Good place to stay, especially if travelling on a budget. The hotel is only a few minutes walk to the beach and a 5-10 minutes walk to main Bangla road, where you can find all the action after sunset.

We found the staff to be very friendly and helpful.

However, the only bad point aboout the hotel is the entrance. It is not on the main road but a small lane on the inside and you have to walk past a small dirty stretch of road before getting to it.

All in all, good value for money and recommended!
