Our travel agent recommended this hotel, on arrival we were greeted by the bell-boys, they were friendly and moved our bags in straight away. The reception staff were rude and demanding but I think that is just the lack of english. Not really sure why the customer relations person was russian and couldn't speak hardly a sentence of english but anyway. We didn't have a credit card (only debit mastercards which we thought would be ok) they asked for $100 AUD cash as a deposit on the room, that was fine. We ended up getting all of that back in AUD so can't complain. The people that took our bags to our room kind of lingered, we didn't know that we were meant to give them a tip but they got the hint pretty quick when we didn't know what to do. The room was nice, all we needed. A few mozzies around but my fault for leaving the balcony door open. I have no idea whether we were in the new wing or not, I had read the website and wanted new wing but from the outside I had no clue! We were right across from the Belgian Beer Cafe which was kind of annoying when we wanted an early night (like flyout night) the band kept playing some nights til 11.30pm-1am.. she had a great voice but not when you have to get up in 4 hours! The rooms were cleaned daily, we only once had to remind them they didn't replace our pool towels. On the day we arrived (9am) we had a nap about 3pm and room service walked in on us and tried to clean the room, we hadn't even spent a night there yet! A couple of marks on the walls and dirty stains but nothing to disappoint dreadfully.. The pools were good, always clean and nice. Pool Bar was good, prices are always going to be more than on the streets but other than that good. We ate breakfast daily and the selection was great, lots of different cuisines and something to suit everybody. Belgian Beer Cafe was over priced but the burgers were divine! Very memorable! Ate also at Sunset Restaurant and the other at the front, both were good. The one at the beach side is very spicy! Well my thai beef salad made by head explode! Bowling alley was good, gym was excellent. Would have liked to try a coffee at the main building but alas you can't do everything.
All in all, very happy with choice of accom, far enough away from the hussle & bussle but a nice walk into town. Pools weren't overly packed & rooms nice! OH AND SPA WAS RIDICULOUSLY EXPENSIVE! CAN'T REMEMBER EXACT FIGURES BUT GO ON THE STREET! THE FIRST MASSAGE PLACE FROM THE HOTEL WITH THE FISH SPA OUTISDE, WOULD PAY 200BHT $6 FOR AN HOUR LONG FOOT MASSAGE!
