“Service didn't match the amazing views.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 25, 2013

Great location, choice of 3 pools with amazing views... that was the highlight. Swim up bar was no in use had to walk to restaurant bar to order drinks, annoying.

We had some treatments at the spa and although the attendants were lovely they didn't quite give the impression that they knew what they were doing. Was enjoyable though.

The lack of english speaking hotel staff was terrible, on several occasions we gave up as they couldn't understand and had poor local knowledge of price of taxis, locations of beaches etc.

Breakfast was nice, setting was lovely but choice was lacking, we stayed for 5 nights and had little change & on one occasion they didnt have any eggs (pretty standard).

Our room was nicely furnished, beds however were quite hard & uncomfortable. Fresh towels & water was provided daily which was a bonus. On our balcony we only had 1 deck chair so couldn't enjoy it as much as we would have liked. I did call reception to alert them of the lack of furniture as everyone else seemed to have 2 chairs a table & drying rack, nothing was done. We also had a problem with the fridge, I again called reception but due to the poor English skills I dont think they understood. Problem was rectified after I went to reception in person to explain the problem for the second time. TV was old for what you'd expect in a 4*.

Shuttle service was great however we did not know until our last day it ran into town, would have used it a lot more if times were listed somewhere. I couldn't see any in the welcome info.

Lastly be careful when using phone in room, we were charged 100tb every time we used it, staff claims it was for using their phone line. No where was this charge listed in the room info pack and staff stated we should have asked them prior to using it. .... its a bit hard when most dont speak English.

On a positive note, Pop helped us on a few occasions when booking tours etc, lovely man very helpful.

Thank you for staying with us during your holiday in Phuket. The valuable comments are investigated and I am pleased to clarify as follow;

1) English course training programs are offered continuously for our staff in different department, as the Management would like all staff to understand what our guests want and respond correctly. Lots of our newly recruited staff shall be involved in the training as well.

2) Our breakfast items consist of standard items (everyday) such as egg station, ham, sausage, bread corner etc & changeable items which we will only put each menu twice a month, mostly Asian menus.

3) We have plan to change television in all rooms in the near future, together with increasing satellite channels and add more signal booster to get the clear pictures.

4) The information regarding shuttle service is available at the information board at lobby. Our receptionist also inform all guests upon check-in process as it is the standard service.

5) The phone charge information is stated in the information file in all guest rooms.

Thank you, and hope to welcome you to our resort again in the future.

Kind regards,
Naphatwong N. / General Manager

A Good Place Overall but the staff didnt speak much english so hard to communicate and the internet was slow and expensive 500 thai baht a day. The room the bathroom was nice big and spacious but the sauna in the bathroom did not work we didnt complain because we were on our honeymoon and we went during hot weather. And the breakfast was amazing made your own way omelets and alot fruits and the view from the breakfast area was amazing the hotel is very pricy def quite and good privacy but just bad part was it was away from everything in patong so it was alot walk and distance to go do anything so for that price i would maybe look into staying closer to the city besides that it was a great experience overall

Room Tip: if your going to get a room i dont think there a huge price difference from the royal honeymoon and...

Thank you for staying with us during your honeymoon trip in Phuket and the great comments which will be shared with our staff.

I am pleased to respond to some points as follow;

1) Due to newly recruited staff with different background, during this time we got some comments of miscommunication. The Management is having solutions for this problem such as English training courses which we offered to our staff continuously, English speaking day (every Tuesday in order for the staff to have chance to practice) etc. By the way we do have reception team and duty manager who understand English well and be able to respond to requests clearly.

2) We have rechecked the room and found the steam machine works as normal. However the information shall be revised and placed next to the machine for the guests.

3) Our resort is a bit away from the center of Patong, away from the crowded and noisy area which brings guests maximum relaxation. We provides free shuttle bus service for guests who would like to experience Patong shopping and sightseeing which is available on schedule (around 5 minutes from the hotel to Jungceylon Department Store).

4) Our WiFi charge is in the same range with other hotels and resorts in Thailand. The WiFi signal is checked on daily basis and we have increased the WiFi spots at guest buildings and public areas last month. However I shall ask our IT support team to recheck the signal again.

Thank you, and look forward to welcome you to our resort again in the future.

Kind regards,
Naphatwong N. / General Manager

I've read recent reviews on Blue Marine and it's quite disappointing. When I visited (for about a month) in May 2011 it was very promising. The reception and room service was outstanding and our rooms were brand new and extremely clean. Cleaners visited twice a day (we couldn't believe it either!) and room service was prompt. The Hotel provided us with scooters to drive around in (paid extra obviously) and the beach is across the road from the hotel. I preferred staying here because it didn't look like a tower block and a typical skyscraper (nightmare!) and had a lot of character. The breakfast, which was included when we booked, had pretty much everything from fresh fruits to croissants. Can't vouch for it now, but for the time I stayed, it was the best.
It might be worth visiting in May perhaps when there aren't a lot of people they are catering to?

Thank you for staying with us and the great review which highly increase our staff's morale.

The rooms at both Classic wing and Royal wing were refurbished since October 2012 and ready for the guests to stay. At the moment we are growing more trees to make the resort nicer, doing small touch-up to resort buildings as well as providing training programs to all departments to make sure they perform services professionally with high level of hospitality to all guests.

Thank you, and hopefully we will have chance to welcome you to our resort again in the near future.

The receptions during the night was poor and terrible. Hotel is very old and lots of mosquitoes and insects. Moreover, if we want to get back to the room we have to wait for the shuttle bus. Not impressed at all,,,,,!!!!!!!!

Thank you for staying with us during your holiday.

I would like to clarify that our resort is situated on the higher ground and shuttle service is provided in order to avoid the guests walking uphill. By its location, our resort provides breathtaking panoramic seaview for our guests to enjoy.

The request for our night receptionist to drive the in-house shuttle car to send the guests to their room had to be rejected for their own safety due to the receptionist is unable to drive the car. During the guest stay the hotel got another group check-in which resulted to longer waiting time for our in-house shuttle. Please accept my sincere apology in this case.

All guest rooms are closed and sealed properly in order to protect insects and mosquitoes entering the room. We got many guest complaints about mosquitoes in room and later found out that the guests left the balcony door opened. In this case we are completely unable to investigate, but the room which the guest stayed is in good conditions.

Kind regards,
Naphatwong N. / General Manager

We stayed for 3 nights, over Ester.

We chose the resort based on the comments and pictures on this web side, the fact, that they have a gym.

The good news is, the pool is great. And if you stay in block 4 or 6, you get to see the coast line. Avoid block 5.

The negative news:
We received apparently an upgrade. Not sure what the real deal would have been but when we entered the room, mosquitoes were waiting for us.
When calling the reception to send someone, we learned from the employee, that this was a common comment and often reported problem.
We found, when checking out, the insect repellant, on your bill.

The bathroom was in need of a call to the housekeeping department, too. They were able to get the sink cleaned, however, the corrosion of the sink bowl stayed with us for the entire visit.

One other key decision point was the gym. Unfortunately, the only thing working was the dumbbells. The machines were out of order during the entire time. When calling and asking for the repair (simply missing cables), I received not even an apology.

My misperception. A Concierge suppose to help you with advice. The concierge on daytime duty over Easter was so unprofessional, we received answers to our questions from other guests or by experiences, not from him.
The only thing he knew was, that the transportation belongs to the hotel and is more expensive then the one outside. He wasn't aware of the hotels' free shuttle service to the city centre?

Last, when you depart back to the airport, ensure you keep the number of the transport system you plan to use or you may have used to get to the hotel in the first place. Otherwise you have not much option to use the hotel's van, not a cheap option.

Thank you for staying with us during your holiday in Phuket and the great comment which will help us improve our service standard for future guests.

I would like to clarify some issues as follow;

1) During guest stay we got complaints about insects in the room and our house maid went to the room to spray as per requested. I'm not sure whether the guest left the balcony door opened during their stay, in which the insects and mosquitoes can enter the room easily and the mosquito repellant need to be used.

2) Please accept my sincere apology that our tour counter staff was unable to call outside taxi if our service is available at that moment. Our transfer price is a bit more expensive than outside taxi however we use clean and bigger cars which gives more convenience to guests. In addition, we runs free shuttle service to Patong center daily therefore it is quite surprise for me to know that our staff was unable to inform the guest about the service. I already investigate with the staff and all understand the service very well.

3) Our airport transfer price is also higher than outside taxi but guest can ensure that they will be safe with our service. Outside taxi is cheaper but they do not guarantee anything in case of missing flight or accident.

Thank you for your kind comment of the bathroom stain and fitness equipments which have been repaired since last week.

Thank you, and we do hope to welcome you to our resort again in the future.

Kind regards,

The Blue Marine
The Hotel to sum it up is past its prime and in the fast decline of its glory days. My Girlfriend and i are currently staying the the hotel and will be doing so for a total of Four nights, tonight being our Third. The hotel is outdated and its very size makes it a hassle to stay in, between the building our room is in and the lobby there is a monstrous twenty one flights of stairs plus the walking through 6 Hotel buildings, 3 restaurants, 2 pools and a spa. Although the original idea of a hotel being so well facilitated seems appealing the hotel has some very serious staffing issues. Upon our arrival it took the desk staff (three members) more than ten minutes to greet us although there was only one other guest at the desk. We booked the Royal Honeymoon Suite, the most expensive room style in the hotel only topped in cost by a villa for familys. However upon our arrival at the room our television set wouldnt turn on and our safe wont open. We made two calls to the front desk to no prevail and finally fed up i walked down to the lobby and asked at the desk, the staff said they had addressed the problem but we had seen no signs of action being taken. upon our return to the hotel after a meal we were greeted at the room by a room service maid who gave us a controller and finally the set would turn on.
Since the start of our stay we have gone in the pool daily, while the pools design is beautiful the standard of the pool has dropped massively, the three seated areas that are sunk into the pool which were once beautifully covered in timber and soft bedding are now bare cement and filled with empty cans and old cigarette butts. the tiles are now ageing and the grout in them desperately needs to be replaced, the level of grout in them has worn down exposing the sharp corners of each tile resulting in small shallow cuts on the hands and feet of people who use it. The pool area also isnt clean, there is two snorkel packets that have been floating around the pool area for a whole day as well as a smashed up foam boogie board that has been in the pool since our arrival and is still floating around it.
The breakfast is a disgrace, it is mostly luke warm food which appears to have been sitting out all morning, as well as mushy fruit and largely boiled breakfast foods (hams and sausages) watery yoghurts and only hot milk for cereals (milk that has been heated for coffee's) if you want cold milk for your cornflakes be prepared to go and have to ask for it at the kitchen. the baked goods are largely below par even though the hotel has an in house bakery which is largely displayed throughout the hotel though small displays of items which can be purchased fresh from the bakery. On our first day there we had the hotel breakfast and my girlfriend had been eating a bread roll which we tried to take out with us, only to be informed that we would be charged 600 Baht.
Room service menu is small but quite varied in the range of meals that are available to the guests and the quality of the meals is fair. the room maids however need improvement, since our arrival we haven't been given water that the hotel says they provide complementary, also we only get toilet paper when the room service maid sees that the single roll they provide has run out, no spare roll is provided. our shower also contains a collection of the hair that our previous guests have dropped, both long head hairs and peoples pubic hair litter the shower floor, they haven't been cleaned up since our arrival and assumably a number of guests have stayed there as there is several variations of the colour of hair.

In conclusion the Blue Marine is an old hotel showing its age, the staff are overworked it seems and uncaring as a result. it would be a safe assumption that the hotel only stays open due to the large amount of tours that use the hotel for bulk accommodation most likely due to some sort of pricing arrangement with the tour company (the hotel has 260 rooms and 6 Villas). Last night alone while entering and leaving the hotel we witnessed 4 tour buses arriving, this effects regular guests also as the hotels staff are mostly busy catering to the tour groups needs making you often put off second best.
i would not recommend this hotel to anyone who doesn't own a tour company, the hotel is an unfriendly hassle to anyone who is on holidays and needs major improvement, the only thing would recommend about it is the spectacular view from the top floor.

Thank you for staying with us during your holiday in Phuket and the great comments for our service which were already discussed with the Management.

Our resort is 10 years old and we keep doing maintenance and refurbish to refresh the buildings to be ready for our guests. Our buildings are Thai temporary style and we bring many modern decorations to match up with those buildings.

Please accept our sincere apology about the delayed in service due to the miscommunication between front office staff and maintenance team in servicing the television signal for your comfort.

Cleanliness is one of our major concern in running business therefore I have discussed seriously with our F/B Manager & Housekeeping Manager regarding pool area and other common areas as per your suggestion.

As per hotel policy, guests are welcome to have daily buffet breakfast at the restaurant however they are not allowed to bring the food out of the restaurant. We used to have many guests who tried to take lots of croissants and a whole bag of bread for their day trip which is unfair for us. Should any guest wish to bring food out of the resraurant, the additional charge of THB 600.- will be applied.

I admitted that the newly recruited housemaid who was in charge of this room missed many things as per guest information. We do have training programs and also on-the-job training to them to make sure their service reach our standard.

On behalf of the Management, I strongly commit that we give importance to individual guests as well as other guests who come as a group. All guests are hotel guests and we appreciate their kind support and choosing to stay with us. We understand that we are currently lack of working staff and keep recruiting the newcomer & educate them through continuous training programs to improve their skills and understanding.

Thank you, and we hope to welcome you to our resort again in the future.

Kind regards,
Naphatwong N. / General Manager
