My husband and I stayed at this hotel for 5 nights during peak season. The hotel's location is just off the Patong Beach and we were given a seaview room for about $130 per night (including breakfast). The wooden trims in the decoration of the room and the floor looked very nice, as well as the balcony furnished with rattan loungers and small table.
Service and reception staff were very pleasant and attentive.
The green, lush grounds are maintained beautifully and the pool was pretty enough to spend a few quality hours under the sun. There was a whimsical outdoor shower near the edge of the pool area for cleaning off after walking in from the beach. The lounge chairs and sunbrellas were in good shape.
The room itself was nice and cool, with a mini fridge and cable television. The bathroom was done in polished granite/marble. It was fairly clean. However, some repairs and maintanence could be done to replace the stained toilet seat and yucky looking grout in the shower, as well as the plastic toilet paper dispenser that could not be closed.
The food served at the restaurant was not too pricey, considering that the location of the hotel is just across the street from the beach. I would definitely recommend the fresh raw oysters served with various condiments.
The spa/beauty salon was very nice. Each darkened treatment room has individual shower and shared steam room. I had a mud wrap followed by swedish massage. The mud wrap did wonders for my skin, however, the swedish massage was nothing more than gentle strokes on the body demonstrating no skill in technique or experience. I wondered if the lady even had any kind of anatomical or formal training in massage. Massage at the Baan Laimai is not recommended. The Shower/Steam Room/Mud Wrap/Swedish massage took two howers and cost about 1300 baht on an early bird special from 10AM to 2PM.
The major problem I had was the incredibly loud music coming from the hired band that performs everynight from 8PM to 12AM on the stage in front of the hotel. While the band is very talented and does great oldies and applaudable renditions of Carlos Santana, you will NOT be able to get any sleep when the band is on. I would not stay at Baan Laimai again only because there is no place to get decent rest while the band is playing.
