Great hotel. Tis a family style family run hotel. There a lots of families and singles there. Enjoy that as if you are a night life fan it is great as a good sleep in after a full night is no problem. I took a poolside room and did enjoy a night time dip before I retired with a new friend! Lovely, repsectful and I felt at home with the staff. Pom Rak Thara Patong! (I love Thara Patong)

My husband and 15 yo daughter stayed for 9 nights and had a wonderful time. Our room was large as was the bathroom and had all that we needed. Room was cleaned daily and whenever extra towels were requested they came within minutes. All staff were polite and very friendly. Used the internet daily with no problems and also took the free shuttle to Central Festival. Breakfast was plentiful although my husband said the only thing missing was Bircher muesli. 2 Great pools with spa jets and even a large wading area for the little ones. This hotel is in a fantastic location. Deli, pharmacy, laundry and money changers all just outside the hotel grounds. Quite end of Patong beach but only a 5 minute walk to Bangla Rd. The only downside was that some people would come back late at night or early in the morning and were quite loud but this could happen at any hotel. This hotel is being upgraded at the current time but in no way disturbing the guests. Would definately go back.

There was the Thara Patong before 2006 and the current one.

Before nothing to say, all was cleaning, well maintained, respect of hotel policy, of course great location, on top of that correct rates.

After remained great location only.

Dirty, rooms are getting old, prostitute nest accompanying mainly middle Asia guests, noisy as they turned back at 3 am, Muslim ladies swimming with their burka in the pool (mentioned on the board swimsuit allowed only), BBF along the week the same, no TV satellite working, internet access painful.
Staff has given up already………………

I have spent Christmas 2008 at Mercure Patong, big standing level difference, for closely the same room rate.

Never again at least management is turning over 180*

We stayed at the Thara for 7 nights, The loaction is great ,
You walk out of the hotel, to the beach, shops, resturants, and all that Patong has to offer. But there is no sound of any of this when u are inside the Thara grounds, and in your room.
The breakfast is the best and lots to eat,
Our rooms where nice and clean everyday, staff were nice, and the cook made me a cake for my birthday, We are going back in Feb 2010, and will stay here again

everyday

We had a short weekend stay. The location is good, near to the action but secluded enough. The room that we had was in relatively good condition (i.e. no broken furnitures or cracked tiles). However, it does show its age and we can see segments of the hotel undergoing upgrade. The hotel has pools for both adults and children, and are well spread out, so we do have our own space where needed.

The hotel staff are friendly and carry out their duties well. They actually called our room to enquire, when we made a reservation for the free transport to Central but couldn't go.

So, my ratings are based on its current condition. We would certainly stay at this hotel again, though hopefully after its upgrade.

I stayed at this hotel in 2003 & enjoyed the friendly & relaxed atmosphere. So I was very disappointed to find that things have changed for the worse, as if a new management system is in place. It's exactly the same building as before but much more expensive now. There was no welcoming drink, or even a welcoming atmosphere - just a form thrust at me to fill in as if I was at a police station! This typified the attitude of the reception staff - as if I was there to serve them! As usually happens the cleaners & waiters were the nicest staff there. A lightning storm took out the power & it took a long time of erratic stops & starts to get things (like lights & air-con!) working again.
They have a whole book of rules now - do's & don'ts - mainly don'ts!.
I left early due to the weather but was happy to do so! And no refund for the remaining nights booked - in fact they seemed pleased to see me go. No "hope you enjoyed your stay" or "please come back again"!
So to sum up - a great central location (you can easily walk to most places), close to the beach, good swimming pool, adequate if maybe over-priced rooms but an officious, unfriendly atmosphere.

We arrived at the Thara Patong after a stay at the Holiday Inn Phi Phi. These two hotels by the way are worlds apart.

We checked in very quickly and found that our rooms were already available (it was 10am so we expected to have a few hours to wait) which was good. We arrived in the "superior" room (I dread to think what a standard room was like) to find a very dated looking room. This we could have lived with though, the fact that sat on the bed you could see sections of wall which had just not been painted like the rest we could also have lived with.

We then went through to the bathroom where we found an even dingier room. The tiled wall of the shower had big cracks through many of the tiles, the floor tiles in the entrance simply stopped with a little ledge (ie the tiles were not rounded off leaving them sharp. It was also obvious that a bath had just been removed but the sunken area left in with the shower. Then we noticed the sink, which was crawling with hundreds of tiny insects mixed in with some large ants. When we used the shower, the water simply collected in the sunken area and then quickly overflowed leaving the entire bathroom completely wet. As we started to unpack we found that the ants and insects were also in the wardrobe so we decided to just live from our cases.

This was not simply the case in the room my girlfriend and I were in but also my parents room. Through the 5 days were were there I reported this 3 times to reception to be told someone would come but no one ever did. The service from reception was appauling, everyone was very polite and promised to deal with the problems but no one did.

I would not stay at this hotel again but look for others around the same price with better reviews. I do not know how the hotel has received 4/5 on here but it's certainly not the case. The area I would recommend, a lot of people use this page to post about what they thought of the area but this page is about the hotel not the area.
