“August 2013”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 9, 2013

I went to this hotel with my 16 year old son and his friend for 11 days during August 2013.
I have been to Patong Beach Hotel and have stayed twice at Sun Hill Hotel which I would also highly recommend.
This time I wanted a hotel with a larger swimming pool and more central to the town for the boys' sake.
Thara Patong did not disappoint any of us in any way.
Our adjoining rooms made our accommodation into a 2 bedroom suite and each of us had a large double bed to ourselves.
The staff were always friendly and helpful and the facilities were great.
The kids loved the pool - it was big and clean - the only constructive criticism I could offer would be that it closed at 7pm each night - if it had remained open until say 9 or 10 each night then that would have been perfect.
Breakfast was very good and the dinners we ate in the hotel were also excellent.
Bonus points should go to the hotel for also having very reasonable mini bar prices - so many hotels fall down by charging stupidly high charges for mini bar items.
Taking everything into account we had a lovely relaxing holiday at TheThara Patong Hotel and i would strongly recommend it to everyone..

Room Tip: If you are a family it is good to have two large adjoining rooms which gives everyone some space whe...

We've just returned from an eight night stay at the Thara Patong, and have to say we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Hotel is lovely and quiet, and not too many noisy kids running around. Breakfast was adequate and the pools were lovely. Our room was spotless, and I liked that pool towels were provided in each room rather than having to go and request them and return them.

I do have to wonder if the last few negative reviewers were paying ginger beer prices and expecting champagne service/facilities? Also, I witnessed rudeness toward staff, so it's no wonder that they were not smiling. Similarly, the national language of Thailand is Thai, not English, so why bother complaining about this?

We had no problems, and would definitely stay here again.

Our room was very old, dark and dirty. There was mould in the room and therefore a bad smell!
When we arrived there were already many mosquitoes inside the room.
TV is small, has few channels with bad signal. Internet is slow. Fitness center has very dated equipment. Swimming pools however are ok. The hotel is not beachfront, have to walk about three minutes to Patong Beach. Staff at reception is unfriendly, they also don't give the room before 2pm. It's one of the oldest hotels in Patong and also one of the worst.

I would generally recommend this hotel which was well located and very near the centre but also quiet (depending on which rooms you have chosen) and opposite the beach. The hotel is generally very clean but the problem is in the restaurant where the breakfast food are often not replenished until they have totally run out. The staff here are also not very friendly and rarely smiles. There was a problem with water leaking from my bedroom ceiling and my friend's as well. We were moved on the same morning to a much better block next to the reception area. Well done to the Assistant Duty Manager Michelle and Kanaporn who the others should learn from.

The only other issue were a number of staff did not understand English. My friend spent almost 15 minutes requesting for a bread roll with his lunch only to receive nothing! One or two of the reception staff too should be more helpful and it only takes a few to spoil it for the many who were very good!!

Room Tip: Rooms along 1301 to 1315 overlooking the square full of food vendors are nosier due to music from li...

We moved from a quieter part of Phuket to Patong to get a feel of the more vibrant style of vacation. Our accommodation was very comfortable and had everything that we would have expected. Our check in was quick and within 15 minutes our two rooms were ready and waiting. As we had older children we were at the beach end of the hotel, the other end catered for younger families with a shallow child safe pool. Getting a massage was no drama and the price was acceptable and the buffet breakfast covered all types of tastes and kept us going all day. The staff around our hotel and swim up bar were friendly and we enjoyed spending time with them. Transfers were organised and I recommend this place for money conscious family holiday makers.

Room Tip: Older families choose closer to the beach and eating areas.

Booked three rooms at this hotel entirely on the TripAdvisor recommendation for 5 days at the end of the family holiday, having never been to Phuket before. Considered whether we wanted to splurge with the deluxe or suites but decided there wasn't much to choose space-wise so kept with the 'normal' (superior?) rooms. Didn't regret it! All three rooms were exceptionally clean and all had a balcony or small terrace overlooking the main pool. Beds were comfy with cotton bedlinen and the pillows were adequate - I certainly slept well there. Because where we were was set back from the road, it was quiet too. Rooms were a bit dark, though. Possibly because of the dark floors and furniture but it didn't matter to us, to be honest. Walk in shower was also good and the water pressure seemed to be a constant. They upgraded the TV signal when we were there although we didn't watch a lot (Chinese adverts were amusing though - and their soap operas!).

Lots of choice for breakfast, which carried on outside. Everything covered with cloths to keep out the flies. Good menu for lunchtime too. We all had Indonesian from the main restaurant and it tasted very fresh and was nice and hot (we also had lunch at the Impiana opposite, which was fab with a seaview). Great cocktail menu but difficult to avoid the ice. Maybe we didn't need to avoid the ice but there wasn't any sign up saying it was made from filtered water so avoid it we did.

The main pool (not the cleanest I've ever been in) is a real highlight especially for the couple of hours or so when the jets come on. It was fun for the whole family (including the fussy teens!) and we often timed our days so we could be in the pool when we could experience this. No problems getting sunbeds either and I could smell the frangipani blossom from the pool shower.

Hotel was very well located for the seafront and with lots of shops including 24 hour ones 1 minute from the back of the hotel. It took us about 15 minutes to walk to Jungceylon shopping centre, which was OK but the prices weren't as wonderful as I thought they would be! Service from all staff was tremendous and everyone tried hard to understand English - which I don't take for granted. Shame we didn't get to go to the spa but maybe next time?
