I totally disagreed with the previous really negative reviews. During high season, I had similar experience before also with other hotel around the world, when you booked via the travel agencies and didn't get exactly what you expected and it's not always the hotel's fault. Make sure you phone or email hotel directly to confirm your booking before arriving.
Having stay in Banthai Resort for a 3 nights, I found Banthai very pleasant, peaceful while having direct access to the white sandy Patong beach. As being Thai and stayed in Patong first time after Tsunami, I asked around about the damage caused by Tsunami. All three buildings of Banthai are completely new and never be flooded. The hotel is very modern and clean with very good quality beddings. I love the free-form swimming pool between each building which are enough for all guests. It's worth booking the ground floor pool access, especially the one with private jacuzzi at your door stepp!
I also tried out the Spanakarn, with herbal Thai massage + hot herbal bath, truly relaxing and healthy, epecially, learning that all the herbs used in the spa came from the owner's organic garden! The Port restaurants also served excellent steak and lamp chops with excellent Australian Shiraz of vintage 2001 and 2002!!!! for very reasonable price!!! Drinks are also not expensive with live bands. After drinking too much, I finished my two complimentary bottles of water and had to open the new bottle from the minibar. I was shocked by the price of the drinks, it's almost similar to the supermarket price. I think it's very helpful so that the guests doesn't need to buy water from outside.
I don't need to say anything much about the services and staffs. I really see why they call themselve Banthai (Ban means Home!)....and you really feel like being at home. That's why some long-staying guests (even from wonderful island of Greece!!, Mykonos) whom I've met, keep coming here every year!
If I stay in Patong Beach again, I will certainly come back to Banthai!!!!
