“Quiet retreat in busy Patong”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 31, 2011

Stayed in jacuzzi room (4 nights) which gave us our own spa area, at one end of our section of pool, which extended along length of this block of apartments. There is a sign on balcony in English advising this is for 'jacuzzi room' use only, however we did have a man seat himself there whilst we were on our balcony (obviously not observant or did not speak English). The button to activate the spa is on the balcony. We only really had time on one occasion to use this facility, so possibly not worth the extra unless you have planned time just to relax. I think our room # was 314. Otherwise this location was quite good. I thought it might be noisy with other guests passing, but this was not the case. Room was attractive and well appointed although limited space around vanity for 'girl's stuff' and no shelving at head of bathtub. Location is good..close to Bangla Rd. We ate at the outdoors restaurant area which is at the front of the property one night. Fresh seafood is delivered daily & displayed in ice filled stand out front for your selection, or you can order from the menu. We had fish & squid which were cooked to perfection although my 'seasonal' veges were your McCain's frozen 4 vege type variety...very disappointing....instead of tasty local produce...bok choy etc. The band which played each night provided good entertainment for everyone. Breakfast was delicious with loads of variety to please everyone (nice to see miso soup) with chef on hand for eggs/omelettes, who had a good personality & sense of humour....thanks again for great service. Staff are friendly and helpful. There is a good tailor nearby in dead end street off Thaveewong road called Romeo & Juliet's, Soi Post Office Rd or Gulatino's (same owners) on Thaveewong Road. We had alterations done and they were not pushy...Manager is very nice. Ban Lamai Resort restaurant nearby is also great for food. I had delicious....best ever....Pad thai here. Para sailing available on beach over the road. Would not recommend jet skiing unless you are aware of the scams which abound with this activity. Would stay at this resort again.

Located on Patong Beach about half way down the main street this hotel is perfect. It is about 100m off the main street so it is quiet but still very convenient to all the nightlife of Patong Beach. We stayed in a deluxe room which was described as being 4m from the pool and it was perfect. These rooms are located on the ground level which is great. Don't bother staying in a more expensive "pool room" claiming a private pool because it is not private- it is joined to the main pool - yet the rooms are the same only more expensive which would be a waste of money in our view. The staff here were lovely (as is everyone in Thailand!) and we even got a turn down service which was unexpected. The bed was very comfortable and the best one we slept in th whole time comparied to our hotel in Chiang Mai, Bangkok and Koh Samui. We found the laundry service very cheap compared to other hotels we stayed in Thailand. The buffet breakfast is excellent complete with eggs cooked to your likening, banana smoothies, bacon, pastries - the works! I have no faults with this hotel - absolutely perfect for the price and after walking past other hotels we considered in the same price range, this hotel seemed far more convenient (centralised) and superior to others. It was also straight across the road from Patong Beach which is another reason we chose it. Love the pool bar too! Cheap compared to other hotels (ie Koh Samui)

A fantastic resort at a great location: just opp. the famed patong beach. But one doesnt feel the crowd in the resort; its just cool. i had a room facing the pool on the 1st floor and it had a private balconey overlooking the pool. the staff were too good, especially the ones at the breakfast room. me being a strict vegetarian, the staff put in that extra effort each morning ( and with a smile too) to ensure that i had my breakfast to my satisfaction. There is a free coach to the town everday , but i never felt the need: most worthy places are just round the corner within walking distance; and for the farther ones like central festival or fantasea, there are any no. of taxis and tuk tuks just outside the resort. The famed Bang la street is a stones throw away, yet u dont feel the hustle and bustle of it all within the resort. the water sports r bang opposite the resort. a place to be visited again.

The Banthai is a beautiful Hotel. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The Hotel has three pools, towels are provided. We had two beds in our room which were actually single beds. In a Hotel like this I would have hoped that the beds would be bigger and also more comfortable. The beds are very hard, the same as the pillow, so not so much my sleeping preference. The room itself is big with a balcony. They should offer a toothbrush and toothpaste and maybe some body cream as this is usually standard in an Asian 4 Star Hotel, but other then that everything was great. The location is good too as everything is close by and in walking distance. The beach is only across the street.
Sometimes in the early hours it got a bit loud from people coming home late and one morning it was very noisy from outside noise but I can definitely recommend the Hotel.

Enjoyed my stay at Banthai. 1st time to this hotel. Great location, very close to OTOP shopping and the beach. Clean rooms and sheets.

This is a high standard hotel with ample space and friendly staff. All the rooms have a great view and the location is brilliant. The hotel is situated opposite a very lively beach the night life around the area is always busy and moving. The main street with bars and clubs is only a 5 minute walk away. However if you feel like getting away from all the buzz of the area of Patongs vibrant energy the hotel is a little calmness in the middle of it all.
Would recommend it to anyone considering Patong as a holiday destination.

The receptionist took my printed email confirmation, swiped my credit card then disappeared to the back office. Minutes later, she returned and said they were out of rooms with queen beds and offered a "special upgrade package" of 1000baht per night to get a room with a king-sized bed.

I outrightly refused because firstly we had an email confirmation of the room and secondly, she only said this after swiping my credit card. We said we'd take the room with the twins beds if they can put the beds together, but she said it cannot be done.

She later took us to the 4th floor, to a room with twin beds despite our insistence of having a queen bed. The chambermaid was still fixing the room and told us again they cannot put the two beds together.

After still refusing to take the room, the receptionist finally took us to another room on the 2nd floor, whipped out another keycard from her pocket and gave us that room with a pristinely-made queen bed which was obviously ready for occupation.

Upselling is one thing. Lying about it and making things deliberately difficult for us is another.

Travelers, be warned.
