4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 17, 2013

This hotel is new and has a lot going for it - most importantly location: on the road south out of Patong Beach, it is up in the hills and doesn't suffer from any through traffic. Extremely peaceful!

The complex is a little bit of a mixed bag: at the entrance is a puzzling mirror sculpture (perhaps it will be a fountain?) and the reception area feels barren and hot. The day I arrived, blinds were being installed, and some work is still being done throughout the hotel as at May 2013. The rooms are large and well-appointed. There are some soundproofing issues from neighbouring televisions. Each TV is set in an alcove and the alcove, allowing sound bleed from the next room. The airconditioning in my room was not so quiet - occasionally sounding like an idling Sherman tank. But the bed is extremely comfortable - perfect, even. View: fantastic, onto a lush hill-side and then out to sea.

There are several pools to choose from, very pleasant. Again, work was being done during my stay, so noise of drilling and hammering occasionally dictated which pool to choose. The only major criticism would be the choice of music played at each pool - at one, generic pop/rock, at the other some more 'dancey' stuff. It's a personal taste but neither matched the relaxing surroundings - silence at just one pool would be preferable for those who want peace and quiet. The private beach was not operational for this visit but the hotel offered another beach option, which was perfectly fine.

Food: breakfast was a very good buffet. Dinner at the resort was a disappointment: "Thai noodle dish" which was obviously for the tourist market - no spice at all, more like a brown sauce. The upstairs bar is very nice though - great view of storms out across the sea, and good cocktails. The total experience was money well spent. There is an extensive spa which I didn't patronise.

Last thing: build quality. It's clear that some post-construction patching is still being done at this hotel. The finishing in the room still needed a little work. After a rainstorm on the final day, water was pouring through the main light fitting at the entrance to the hotel - a little worrying! The impression is that parts of the hotel still need some work. Construction rubble on the neighbouring land suggests that there may be further building work there in the future. But overall this was a great place to have a getaway.

Dear Infrawolf,

Greetings from Avista Hideaway Resort & Spa.

Thank you for choosing our Resort and we are extremely delighted to know that you enjoyed your stay with us.

With regards to the welcome sculpture, when designing the Resort we wanted to create an impact on entering the property and a feeling of space and tranquility. The sculpture was actually designed so that is catches the suns rays during sunset and reflects them around the entire welcome court. The airy feeling we hope is also extended to the Lobby. This area is very large and open and has the best views in the property therefore we did not want to make it too compact or cluttered.

We do not have any major construction work happening in the Resort however we are constantly making improvements based on customer feedback and adding to our facilities. As you mentioned we have now installed some fantastic new blinds in the Lobby to assist during the rainy season, the work being done near the pools I believe was new lighting being installed and improving the waterfall feature. We do try to ensure any work is conducted during limited times in order not to disturb our guests.

For the pool music we do have a small music library available in each one and we try to play a selection of music which appeals to the majority of people. We will certainly add a selection of more ambient music and ensure guests are more aware of the selection available. Also if a guest does prefer silence we are more than happy to close the music for them.

We are glad you enjoyed the breakfast and our chef does try to include as much choice as possible. I do apologise if you found the Thai Noodle dish not spicy enough. We do prepare all Thai Dishes according to the traditional recipe and have a good selection of both spicy and non spicy dishes. It may be that the dish you are referring to was the "Phad Thai" or "Phad Mee Hoikkien" which is the yellow noodle dish both of which should not be prepared spicy. We are however always happy to add more spice to any dish if requested.

We are always looking to improve the Resort and keeping the property maintained to a high level is of great importance to us. As a new property we do find some minor issues which we try to rectify as quickly as possible and with as little disruption to guests as we can.

For the neighbouring land this is owned by the local government and there are currently no plans for any further construction in the area. We are discussing with them on improving this area and as part of our conservation awareness are looking to assist by planting trees and shrubs to improve the landscape.

We thank you again for your comments, all of which we value and have passed on to the team members. We will certainly look into making improvements wherever we can.

We do hope to see you again in the future.

Warm Regards

Great experiences since coming! Lovely meeting at the reception, helpful staff ready to assist you every minute. A compliment from the hotel each evening - cookies in the room. Gorgeous breakfast, abundant products for the most demanding taste. Dinner deserves 5 stars! The chef comes out to you personally to know what you want.Bus at your request can take you to the city center or to the beach. The hotel has 3 swimming pools with salt water, so to the beach we have not reached :) The area is surrounded by greenery, flowers and an abundance of great flavors! This was the best vacation, be sure to come back here again and advise everyone!

Room Tip: Great Room Club Vista, overlooking the forest and the ocean. There is also a private swimming pool.

We are a young family of 4 with a 3 1/2 and 2 years old toddler. I have done so many research before booking this hotel, therefore I think I set the bar a bit too high given all the positive feedback. However we still enjoyed alot in Avista Hideaway, here are the pros and cons.

Pros
Amazing swimming pools
Kids room allows us to leave my young children (even though i thought kids under 4 need parent supervision)
Lovely food and cocktails
2 turnover from housekeeping, lovely touch to the yummy cookies
Most of the staff were friendly
Shuttle Bus to Patong
Great for couples

Cons
Lots and lots of stairs, definitely no wheelchair or pram friendly (lift to ground but still lots of stair to get to the restaurant and swimming pool)

I read some family feedback said they gave ice cream to kids on arrival and a gift to kids on farewell but that didnt happened to us, a bit disappointed.

So many comment said Ellen and other manager are great but they didnt talk to us at all during the whole 5 day stay even we saw them everyday, I feel like we are not special enough to get the "extra touch"

Great choice but limited choice. They have a few food outlets (pool bar, room service etc) but actually they are the same food, from the same restaurant same menu. Abit bored from the same food after eating it for 4 nights....

Lady from the kids room is not a kid friendly person, she looks very bored and doesnt want to be there, but she is nice lady so its ok.

Disappointed on the fruit selection in the hotel both breakfast and the welcome fruit platter. There are only ordinary fruit like watermelon, apple, pear etc. I was expected mango (this is thailand come on), strawberries some more excited tropical fruit ....

Overall, I would still recommend this hotel to my friends and will sure come back. Hopefully when we come back there will be more restaurants and the beach club will be opened.

Dear Isabella C,

Greetings from Avista Hideaway Resort & Spa.

Thank you for choosing our resort as your holiday destination and we are extremely delighted to know that we met your expectations.

Regarding the children's ice cream and gifts, we do give this to all children, however if the children appear to be under 5 we do not normally give them directly based on past feedback from parents. We will certainly look into this policy and come up with an alternative for very small children.

We are sorry Ellen or the other staff did not have chance to speak to you at breakfast and believe me this is certainly not intentional. All our guests are special and we do not intentionally ignore people. We do try to ensure all staff approach guests to have a chat and gain important feedback. We do try to ensure staff do not interrupt guests when eating and especially if they have young children to take care of as we know this can be a challenging time. We will certainly try to improve.

We do have new menus starting in different outlets however we found that many guests enjoyed the extensive menu on offer in Vista and therefore we offer this menu throughout the entire Resort. It does include a range of Thai, Western and Indian dishes as well as comfort food such as burgers, fresh pizzas and sandwiches.

I do apologise if you thought the Kids Club attendant was not satisfactory, she was specifically chosen for her experience with Children and usually has a lot of fun keeping them entertained with various activities. I will discuss with her and see what improvements can be made.

Finally for the fruit baskets we do try to include as much tropical fruit as possible whenever it is in season. This includes Rose Apples, Dragon Fruit, Rabutan, Mangosteen, Longan and other local fruits. When these fruits are not in season then we do provide more of the traditional fruits. We also do have a very high quality level and if any of our fruit deliveries do not meet the standard we will not send to the guest rooms. We will certainly look for ways to ensure a more tropical selection is readily available. We do also have a wide selection of fruit available on the Buffet in the mornings.

We do appreciate all feedback and we would like to thank you for taking the time to share your opinion with us. We take feedback very seriously and can assure you we always try to rectify any points we can to improve our service.

We have shared your feedback with all the team and are glad to know that you would like to come back again in the future.

We look forward to seeing you again soon

Warm Regards

Great hotel, staff where very accommodating to all of our needs. They also run a shuttle bus from the hotel into the centre of Patong which made it very easy and saved us getting a taxi all the time. Had an excellent stay here and will definitely go back! Breakfast was great and always had a few different options.

Avista is the most amazing luxurious hotel I have ever stayed in, pure paradise! Excellent idyllic location, really relaxing which is what we wanted and is only 5 minutes away from the busy streets of Patong, free shuttle bus throughout the day to Patong and to the beach and back which was great.

Our room was amazing really modern décor, spacious and kept spotlessly clean daily. Housekeeping staff do an excellent job cleaning the rooms in the daytime, and are all very friendly they would even pop back in the evening to see if we needed anything and would leave little chocolates or biscuits! We had a sea view from our room and also looked out over one of the many infinity pools, heaven!

Food at the hotel has got to be the best food I have ever tasted in a hotel, everything that we ordered was lovely, breakfast was really good, really excellent quality, freshly cooked food. Proper bacon and English sausages too, my favourite for breakfast was eggs Benedict!

We visited the rooftop bar each night for sunset cocktails while looking out over the sea and watching the fishing boats, and I must say that Simon the assistant manager was a great host and an excellent source of information for places to see and things to do during our stay.

From the time we arrived until the night we left we had been treated like royalty and were made so very welcome, the staff really are such an asset to this hotel, so friendly and welcoming. Every one of them has a smile on their face and cannot do enough to help or make suggestions, whether you are planning on doing one of the many trips on offer, or sorting out your towels to take to the beach, nothing is too much trouble.

We stayed for 10 nights and I didn’t want to leave. Excellent hotel, excellent value, I can’t wait to come back! Get booking!!!!

We stayed at the Hideaway Resort during the Songkran water festival and it was amazing. We weren’t sure which hotel to book at first but we managed to get a last minute deal here and it looked good from the pictures online. We wanted to stay somewhere near to all fun for Songkran but not right in the middle as my husband hates getting wet every day.

From the minute we arrived things were great. We were met by the reception staff who gave us welcome drinks and fruit and even ice cream for the kids. We stayed in the Family Vista room which also had direct pool access from our room. This was great as the kids loved being in the pool. The room is very spacious with 2 large beds and all the normal things expected. The bathroom is huge and the beds are the BEST I have ever slept on…. So soft and comfortable.

We ate at the hotel most days although we did go into Patong a couple of times. The breakfast is fantastic with a choice of just about everything you can imagine, western food, Thai, cheese, fruit Yoghurt and we did love the fresh juice area where the staff squeeze the juice for you. Most of the daytimes we ate by the pools which was good. Lovely Pizza for the kids which is made in their big Pizza oven. For the evening my husband and I ate in the restaurant but the kids preferred to have room service and watch the TV.

Service is fantastic, all the staff were really nice and friendly and helped us so much. Ellen was always around to see if we wanted anything and the manager Simon was also cool with the kids. He showed them the PS3 console and games room and was always helpful telling us where to go for trips etc. The person on the front desk AK was also a good help organising things for us and making sure we got the shuttle bus into Patong whenever we needed it. There are taxis available and it usually cost us 300 Baht to get back if we did not use the shuttle.

We really enjoyed our Holiday here and felt so welcome by all the staff. The hotel is a fantastic place which feels very large. There are a lot of stairs as it is built on the mountain but we did not find this a problem. We often used the golf cars to go to the lobby and even without them we managed to work out the best route using the lifts and as little stairs as possible.

The only negative point we would have is that there is not enough space to hang clothes in the wardrobe when with family (5 of us) and also no mirror to use in the room when drying hair or putting on makeup.

Apart from this the entire stay was wonderful and we will definitely be back. The pool access rooms are definitely the best especially the one right at the end as you get to see the fantastic views all around.
