“Too good not to mention..!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 14, 2013

I have only ever written a few reviews, however I could not return from this holiday & not tell people about this fantastic resort. First of all my wife & I would like to thank each & every member of the Merlin Beach Resort staff who made our holiday, well just made our holiday really.!!

So we arrived at the resort after driving through what seemed like a monsoon.! (rainy season) mid June, to be greeted by the reception staff who sorted our check in very quickly & with a cocktail & a smile. We were taken to our room which had a view of the swimming pool & the sea which was amazing even though it was still raining. We ordered room service as we arrived late & it was a great first impression of what was to follow.

From the next morning onwards things just got better & better as the sun was shining & every member of the resort staff greeted us with a smile. Breakfast was great (buffet) & the egg chefs looked after all your eggy needs.! After that we met our holiday rep who sorted all our excursions & asked if all was well with the resort. Yes we replied but the only critisism we have is that the room had a slight foisty smell to it when we arrived. Well the next thing we knew we were being shown different rooms all over the resort to see if we would like to move, however it would seem the smell was just down to the lack of use & actually dissapeared after the next 2 days. We decided that the view from the balcony was too good to miss so we stayed put.!
The resort staff didn't rest at this & treated our room to some nice smellies that sorted it.

Ok so we tried every restaurant in the resort & did not have one bad experience, with each visit accompanied by a discount card which ended up giving us up to 30% discount at the last few meals. The resort itself was very clean & the gardens well cared for. With a short walk to the beach that was beautiful & had sea view massages at either end. The little Tiger restaurant to the left of the beach up some steps is also well worth a visit for drinks & food, especially at sunset, with totally stunning views. The swimming pools are exceptionally clean & with a swim up bar was a welcome break after sunbathing. There are 3 pools in total which all looked fantastic however we only used the one with the swim up bar. Free Wifi in the lobby was handy & also much easier than buying wifi for the room which was a bit hit & miss unless standing on one leg in the shower with ur device held above ur head. Happy hour every evening in the lobby bar 6pm-8pm with cocktails at £1 we tried them all..!!

If you like a bit of adventure & nightlife then Patong is only 10mins free shuttlebus ride away.
Some reports say these buses get busy, well we found that there was no problem getting on the free bus because if it was full then they sent for back up & as for the return we just picked up a tuk tuk for a few quid.

While your in Phuket you have got to go and see Phi Phi islands & also go elephant trekking all these trips are well worth the money & don't forget your camera.!!. We also went to the Simon Caberet (ladyboy show), it was really good & there were a couple of funny acts that we're still laughing about 3 weeks later.

Anyway back to the resort, even at the end of our holiday on checkout, which can sometimes be long winded at some hotels, they made short work of it & still with a smile. They even gave us an envelope with all the chitties we had signed for pool drinks etc.....

So if your thinking of a holiday in Patong then the Merlin beach resort is the one. It looked far nicer than most of the other hotels we visited to collect people on excursions. When we return it will be back at the Merlin.!!

Hope this gives a little insight to this resort for whoever reads this..!!

Signing off with thanks.... Room 3205 16th-29th June 2013. :)

When we first arrived into the hotel, it looked very big and fancy with its giant arches in the lobby. It was a great surprise when we recieved cold towels after the transfer from airport. The ground floor room we stayed in was quite spacious despite being a low-tier room (Premium). The towels were changed every day, the minibar was filled constantly. Everything worked. Hotel has its own beach, but note, that time between low and high tides is 6 hours, so you should do your plans according to the tides. Swimming while the low tide is near impossible and if you are looking for waves, go look somewhere else.
Tips:
1. Get yourself massaged on the beach for 300 baht (7.5 euros)
2. Go to Little Tiger. A little bit dirty and old looking, but definitely won't let you down when it comes to food.
3. Take the taxi for the entire day. A decent price is around 1800 baht, so if a taxi driver tells you, that 3000 baht is ''very cheap'', then don't listen to him.
4. Take a trip to the Phi Phi Islands with a motorboat. Be quick so you can get to the motorboat first. It'll get very tight in the motorboat. Buy some bread before departing from the port and put bread to empty PET bottle. If you go snorkelling press the bread out to call fish.
Very important tip: Be very careful while snorkeling. Sea urchins are poisonous and painful. They are bigger than you think, so don't even get close.
5. Buy a ticket to the Phuket Fantasea show with a buffet dinner. The seafood buffet is a more expensive way to have dinner.
6. Go to Freedom beach with longboat for 300 baht.
7. Order a suit or dress from a tailor in Patong.

This was our first time to Phuket and it was fantastic. The Merlin Beach Resort is big and spacious and just far enough out of Patong. Tuk-tuks available all the time at the front of the hotel if you don't use the hotel service. The buffet breakfast is excellent. Massages on the beach are highly recommended. The restaurants are good value. Room Service is quick. Would go back again and stay at the Merlin.

Room Tip: Great view from rooms overlooking the main pool and beach. We stayed on the 4th floor (top floor...

Location is good especially if you don't want to be right in the middle of Patong, but close enough to be convenient. Rooms were decent, good size and had all the little things to make it comfortable. Internet access was painful the whole week..even when paying for the room access (as free net is only in the lobby) the room net was slow...very slow. This was annoying for us as we like to search for activities/tours etc. Making the next bit more frustratibg-the "tour" desk at the hotel were not all that helpful, not really interested in helping too much. For example they seem to only want to book fishing with 1 provider...but seeing that company never answered my emails/phone calls or the tour desks calls, the hotel basically said sorry we can't help you find a fishing trip. This was a common theme.. Ask for ice and its all too hard... In saying that a lot of staff were very nice/helpful etc but the experience is soured by the others. If you stay and want better help with tours etc go ask for Lek landers (across the road) he will get you anywhere you want to go!

Great stay, very comfortable, staff lovely polite and efficient people. Treat you like royalty. The pool is fabulous especially the swim up bar. Happy hours on Saturdays and Tuesdays were a lot of fun.
Loved the little personal touches we received like our welcome garland of Frangipanis and mock tail on arrival, the fresh fruit, the creative folding of the towels into a different Thai animal each day, and lovely photo gift on our departure. This was our second time here and we wouldn't hesitate to stay here again. Just loved it.

We love this hotel, every trip to Phuket we have returned to the same place - we just can't change! Love the breakfast, pools, restaurants & the staff!! We always stay in a pool access room unless we are taking our children - these rooms are just fantastic - nothing better than dropping into the pool from your door step! Can't wait to return!!!!

Room Tip: Pool access rooms!!!
