5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 24, 2013 via mobile

Blondies Bar 2 at OTOP shopping Paradise opposite Hard Rock Cafe. Great atmosphere, cold beers, great spirits, owner is a true blue west Aussie. Friendly staff and cheap drinks and all original drinks not like Bangla Rd

“Ronnies Kangaroo Bar...while u-wait”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 11, 2013

Looks like my comments will be similar to a few other Oz Wanderers. The complex, is just off the main drag adjacent to the "Hardrock Café Patong" and is a criss-cross of stalls selling the usual best price (you can negotiate) clothing, trinkets and souvenirs etc.
While your shoppers want to browse, drop-in and see Ronnie, ex-pat bar owner. He has lived in Thailand for quite some time and will give you some good tips about local shopping, attractions and what the dollar should be.
Beer prices are par the waitresses charming and Ronnie is a good chatter who is passionate about his footy (AFL) and often kicks in a couple of shots with the beers and a BBQ (real Aussie sausages), but for those who like a wine (but not at Thai imported prices) he will let you try the imported stuff before you buy. He also rents out motor-bikes (scooters) at favourable prices to other expats

“Let the Mrs shop while you Drink”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 20, 2013

Great place to take your girlfriend/wife shopping. while she browses the many small stores that are here you can sneak off to one of the many bars to sneak in a few beers and play a few bar games.
If your in the area make sure to drop my Lillys Aussie Bar. Easily the best spot in the whole of Otop. Another great thing are the many food bikes that drive around. Delicious food at thai prices.

“All the stuff other street stalls sell but all in the one place”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 16, 2013

Throughout Phuket you will encounter street stalls all of which sell basically the same stuff. A steet stall in Karon selling tee shirts or dresses will have basically the same stock as a street shop selling shirts or dresses in Patong or Kata. The only real difference in stock will be the size range held - a particular stall may not hold your size, particularly if you are a big (XXL or larger) Westerner. The last remaining difference will be the degree to which the shopkeeper will be willing to let you bargain him down to your desired price. Either way, you need to visit more than one shop in order to purchase wisely. So having many shops concentrated in one area like they are in OTOP markets is a real asset if you don't want to walk around a lot or if you are short of time. As far as we could determine, the (bargained) prices at this market are no more expensive than at those of comparable shops elsewhere. And because you have multiple shops in close proximity to one another selling the same product, you have a bit of an upper hand in the bargaining game.
OTOP is a short walk south of the big Jungceylon shopping centre. Look at prices there if you have time to see what you SHOULDN'T be paying. If you are using a car, you can park underneath Jungceylon for a modest price (particularly if you purchase something there and show your receipt) or, if you have the audacity, you can do what we did and just drive into OTOP markets (there are no gates or security guards) and just park in a vacant spot within the market - for free. (As with a lot of things in Thailand, there are no rules, so you are not breaking any!)
In addition to the bars you will surely rest at on a hot day, there are shops selling dresses, mens shirts, souvenirs, watches, pants, belts, luggage and a whole lot of other stuff. Copy products are readily available but be aware that TECHNICALLY it is against Thai law to both sell and purchase copy products but this law seemed to be TOTALLY unenforced, with the exception perhaps of watches which tended to be under the counter or in a room at the back of the shop.
Take plenty of small notes (100b and lower) as few shopkeepers are in the position to change a 1000B note for a 200B purchase.
Lastly, look critically at the quality of what you propose to purchase. Most goods are of sound quality, but one pair of shorts I tried on had the waist button just fall off, and a copy watch I purchased stopped after two days (was replaced by the vendor when I returned to his shop to complain with a watch which to date has worked fine).
To shop effectively without being ripped off badly, follow the guidelines of my review of how to shop in China at http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUserReviews-g294212-d321012-r84026143-Pearl_Market_Hongqiao_Market-Beijing.html#REVIEWS. But also remember that while 100B is a cup of coffee to you, to the vendor it is a lot of money, so don't be ruthless trying to save that last 100B.
