“Great value and service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 25, 2012

We originally booked 2 nights at Baan Phil Guesthouse with the idea that we would look for something else in Phuket once we arrived. However, after the great service we received and location of the hotel, we stayed the entire 8 days with them.
The two Phillippe's are a wealth of local information and are great hosts. They gave us valuable advice and ideas for things to do around Phuket. They also helped us to arrange trips, rent a motorbike and many suggestions for entertainment.
The hotel's staff are also fantastic. Always friendly and attentive. We felt welcomed every time we walked in and out.
The hotel itself is nicely located. It is only 5 minutes walk to Patong Beach and has several places right around it to eat, drink, change money, get a Thai massage, and shop. There is a bit of construction going on nearby, but we found this to be true of most of Patong. Expect that no place in Patong is super quiet. The location, however, is in a more quiet area as compared to the Bangla Rd and Beach Rd areas. The room was spacious and had good AC, a fridge, and plenty of English TV stations. Our room was cleaned very well each day and we received clean towels and linens. The shower had great pressure and was plenty hot. The bed was a bit firm..only real complaint.
This hotel is a guesthouse and not a luxury spot to stay. If you're planning to sit around your room all day, you should pay 3-4 times the price and get a resort. However, if you want a clean and comfortable place to stay that makes you feel instantly at home, Baan Phil is ideal. We rented a motorbike next door ($7/day!!) and explored the island. With the great advice from Phillipe(s), we never had a dull day! Thank you so much to both Phils and the crew for making our time in Patong so special. We will be back!

Dear Mel87_10,

Thank you so much for taking the time to write such a nice review, and for choosing the Baan Phil for your stay in Patong.

We would also very much like to thank you for staying 6 more days than originally booked. It shows us you did have a great time with us, which is very rewarding for both us and the staff.

We are sorry for the construction going on in the hotel next door. This should be soon over, and fortunately they don’t start early morning. They are just adding 2 walls in their restaurant, and we actually don’t understand why something they started 3 months ago is not finished yet.

We are very sorry for the hard mattress, and had you told us while you were here, we would have put something on to try and soften it some. The mattresses are very hard in Thailand, it’s very uneasy if not impossible to find soft ones. Thai people don’t like (or are not used to) soft mattresses. For instance, a Thai friend of us had bought for his elder sisters (75 and 77 years old), 2 mattresses and pillows to put in their bedrooms in the family house in Chumphon, South Thailand. The last time he went to visit them he almost fainted as the brand new mattresses and pillows were still covered with plastic, and the 2 sisters were sleeping on the floor with …… their head resting on a brick !!!

Next time you will come and visit us, we will offer you a massage to make it up for the firm mattress. :)

The staff says thank you for your very nice comments about them, and we also thank you for the very nice and interesting talk we had one evening about Montenegro as this is a country we absolutely don’t know. That’s what is so much interesting in our job: we can give our guests a lot of information about Phuket and some other parts of Thailand that we know, and we also learn a lot from our guests about places they know or the country they come from.

Once again thank you very much for this very nice review.

We do hope you will come back visit us as soon as you can.

Best regards

Philippe, Philippe and the staff.

Prior to our stay in early May 2012, I had emailed Baan Phil a few times asking questions and advice for our first visit to Phuket. I had not even booked with them yet. Every email I sent received a courteous reply along with useful information. That was enough to convince me to book with them. After booking with them, I sent more emails asking about places to eat, things to see, places to go... and again, I received a reply to every email with lots of suggestions. I explained that we were celebrating our *almost* anniversary, meaning we were unable to travel on our exact actual anniversary.

Upon our arrival on May 2nd, We met the first of two Philippe(s) that own and operate Baan Phil. He was the man behind the email, and one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet. He helped us with our bags, helped us check in quickly so we could settle in. That was when we discovered an amazing thing in our very nice room (see the pictures). We arrived late in the day so we decided to eat at the Baan Phil for our first meal in Phuket. I'm telling you now, the food at Baan Phil is excellent! The mixed drinks (with alcohol) were awesome, and probably strong enough to power a motorcycle.

Not long after, we met the second of the two Philippe(s). A very nice guy indeed, and the man behind the scene in the kitchen. This guy knows how to cook!

The Deluxe room at the Baan Phil was clean, nice, comfortable, and decent sized. They must have satellite because the tv had tons of channels. Patong beach is a lively place, and can be a little noisy at night. The good thing about the Baan Phil is that it's located toward the north end of Patong beach, close enough to all the fun, but just far enough that its more quiet late at night. Its literally 5 minutes walk from the beach, 5 minutes from Sameros ice cream (gotta try it), 10 minutes from a great pair of restaurants called "surface" and "current of the sea" (great lobster). Jungceylon mall is only 15 minutes walk right down the street. Its a nice mall, nice stores, lots of restaurants there too. If you enjoy the wild life, go to Bangla road at night, its right outside the mall.

Simply put, Baan Phil is perfectly located near just about everything you would want to see in Patong. They clean the rooms good, replace the towels daily, and they provide a simple but tasty free breakfast that you can *upgrade* very affordable. The entire staff at Baan Phil is nice, and they deliver good service. Philippe and Philippe are true gentlemen, and make you feel welcome at their place. I truly consider them our friends now.

One last very important thing... there are a few really mean reviews on this site about Baan Phil. If you read them, don't believe it for one second! They were likely placed there by a competing hotel in the patong area. They had a near perfect record until this attack on their reviews. Baan Phil is a really nice place, great price, great food... and the two Philippe(s) are very nice guys. They helped make our first visit to Phuket a great experience. If we set foot in Phuket again, I guaranty you we will be staying at Baan Phil. Thanks guys, you did good!

Your Friends, Robert & Shin Yi

Dear Robert and Shin Yi,

Thank you so much for taking the time to write such a nice and friendly detailed review, and for posting those nice pictures. Thank you also for choosing the Baan Phil for your stay in Patong.

We are so happy you both had a great time with us to celebrate your “almost anniversary” :)

We have shown the staff your review. Needless to say the maids are so proud to have their “rose petals” artwork now displayed all over the www, as well as the cook for her plates. :)

About the e-mails we exchanged, we feel it’s very important to answer as quickly as possible, and also to help as much as possible the people coming for the 1st time to Thailand. We do understand some people might be a little bit apprehensive to come to a country they don’t know, to cope with a different language and culture from theirs, therefore it’s very important to us to make them feel safe and confident even before they set foot in this wonderful country.

One again we and the staff thank you very much for such a very nice review, and we really do hope that you will come back and visit us as soon as possible.

Best regards from your Phuket friends :)

My boyfriend and I stayed here for 2 weeks. This was our first time in Phuket. On arrival, we were greeted by two pretty young thai girls. Checking in took a second, totally hassle free. Our room was a standard room and was very basic but clean, functional a/c was available and the bed was super comfy! The breakfast is free but you can add 50baht to get bacons and eggs with it. We met "tall Phil" on our second day and he gave us a map and explained how to get to the areas we wanted to visit (beach, mall, clubs etc). There is no curfew as the reception is available 24/7 and we had to leave the room key everytime we went out. It was one of the staff's birthday whilst we were there and Phil offered us to join them for a free drink..it was a very fun night! All of the staff are incredibly friendly. We had a problem with our room and I acknowledged "small Phil" about the situation and he moved us to the superior room upstairs with a roof terrace to compensate for the problem. It was newly refurbished and very nice :) The location of the guesthouse is excellent, about 5 minutes walk away from the beach and 10-15 minutes walk to the Jungceylon shopping mall and Bangla road where all the clubs and bars are situated. We enjoyed our stay in Baan Phil and would definitely stay there again on our next visit. Thank you again Phil and Phil and to the rest of the staff for your hospitality!

Dear mazrockcick,

Thank you so much for taking the time to write such a nice and friendly review. And above all thank you for choosing the Baan Phil for your stay in Patong.

We are really happy that you felt at home, as our main goal is to give our guesthouse a homely atmosphere.

Further to the problem in your room, you were moved to an Executive one on the top floor. We are currently redesigning our 3 Executive rooms, and the one you were in was the first one achieved. The 2nd one should be finished soon…….or not, as Ooe, our technician is telling us day after day: tomorrow it’s finished ….. and this has been going on for one week. :)

We are happy that you enjoyed the room, as you were the 2nd customers to try it. We must admit that Ooe is working well, if not fast ….. :) The very 1st customer to try this room was a gentleman from Germany, and he too liked it very much. So it is rather rewarding for us to get positive feedbacks about those new rooms.

Our receptionist Shi’s birthday party was great, typically Thai (especially the multicoloured cake), and we did enjoy you joined us for the fun as both of you were such charming guests. Actually our staff likes it very much when our guests are joining us for special events.

We’ve printed out your review for the staff, and they all say thank you for your nice comments about them.

Once again thank you so much for your very nice review, and we do hope you will come back again, as promised. :)

Best regards to both of you,

Tall Phil, Small Phil and the staff :)

We visited this lovely guesthouse for the first time in november 2011. We stayed for four days and liked it so much, that we decided to come back for fourteen days in may 2012.
We were welcomed by the staff and the owners in a very special way!
The rooms are big and clean and everyday you'll have fresh new towels. The food in the restaurant is delicious.
If you want to stay in Patong, stay in Baan Phill!! Your have the guarantee to have a clean nice room, a very nice restaurant, a great friendly staff and lovely owners! This is value for money!
If you don't like it here you like it nowhere! We definitely will visit Baan Phill again!

My friend and I stayed in 2 different rooms in this hotel.

I have to say both owners are some of the nicest and most helpful people I have encountered managing a hotel.
I have visited 45 countries and I have stayed in hundreds of hotels of every sort, from budget to top class, so I think I can tell whether someone is genuine and honest or not in the hotel business.

Having said that, in my experience I found no bed bugs or cleanliness issues at this guest house as reported by some reviewers. In fact, my only issue during the stay was a bit of noise from the street at night, making sleep quality not ideal. But based on my experience in Patong, it is quite common there regardless of where you stay.

Overall I find that this guest house is a good value, with exceptionally friendly service, very clean and in a good location.

The claims about the owners being rude and arrogant are simply ridiculous, and having read their response to those reviews, I actually believe that their are being accused by vindictive and uneducated guests.

Dear boogaboogabooga,

Thank you so much for taking the time to write such a nice and friendly review. We are very touched by your kind words about both us and the staff.

You are right, Patong is a very lively place, and therefore there can at time be some noise from the street. It usually calms down at night, but we sometimes have to cope with the “singing” of party people getting back late to their hotel ….

Our Deluxe rooms overlooking the street are a little bit noisier than our Standard and Superior rooms located at the back of the building, or our Executive rooms on the roof top. On the other hand, our Deluxe rooms have a balcony where you can sit and watch life goes by down in the street. And there’s always something nice, funny or unexpected to see in the Patong streets.

Most of our guests have no problem regarding the street noise in our Deluxe room. For the 5% of very light sleeper complaining about it, we usually always find a solution, such as a change of room category whenever it’s possible.

Once again we thank you very much for your review, and above all we thank you for choosing our guesthouse for your stay in Patong.

We do hope we will have the pleasure of welcoming you again soon.

Best regards

What can i say from the time we entered the staff were fantastic - they looked after our every needs. Rooms were spacious and clean - we did have the top floor with a beautiful roof terrace - well worth it! Such a good location - a short walk to the Centre, 3 mins from Beach. The restaurant was busy downstairs which is always a good sign, they have a great chef, food was fantastic and also very reasonable.
On Sonkram day we had a fantastic day with the staff, it felt like we had our very own water party! People who did not know us joined in our fun - photos are great. I would definitely recommend staying here. Rooms are very reasonable, cleaned daily, staff fantastic, breakfast very good, trips and entertainment were booked for us and organised through Baan Phil.
Baan Phil is a little gem, so pleased that we stayed here - thank you!!!!

We are so happy you did enjoy our guesthouse and have such a good time with the staff and us, and we also did enjoy having such nice guests. And we had soooooooo much fun !!!!!! Songkran is a fantastic time here in Phuket as it’s a day where people are gathering altogether for a big funny and friendly party, no matter where they come from, and no matter how old or young they are.

We showed the staff and the chef your review, and they all say a very big thank you.
