“Good rooms, good location, good food, staff attitude needs improvement...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 3, 2013

Just came back from a 3 night stay at the hotel with my family. Overall nice stay with good, clean, efficient rooms. Excellent buffet breakfast and nice enough pool. Located well too as the beach is about 10 minutes walk away and a huge shopping mall is also about 15 minutes walk..

however, some of the staff attitude did let the experience down for me...

1. Hotel organised a 12 seater (!) mini-van for me to be picked up at the airport.. not cheap. The hotel insisted that as there are 4 of us (including my 6 year old and 3 year old), the transport company cannot provide a car for us as the car covers insurance only for three passengers(!?). Anyways, I was left with no choice but to request for the mini-van. The driver that came to pick us up had the worst attitude I have ever seen on anyone who is supposed to be welcoming you to a resort town. I felt that he was doing me a favour by picking me up as he came across as very aggressive and rude... horrible first experience of Phuket for me and my wife. We provided feedback to the hotel as we checked-in.. not sure what action was taken.

2. Housekeeping - efficient staff and did their job well. However, their attitude was not great... I asked for an extra bath towel and was almost 'scolded' by the housekeeping staff in a very loud tone that 'you are 3, no'... ' we have given you 3 towel!'... I was not being unreasonable... I have stayed in some really good hotels in other parts of the world and such a response was unacceptable and very rude.

3. Not many smiles going around... I just felt that the staff needs to lighten up a bit and show genuine warmth and smiles... I found that lacking all around... with the odd exception here and there.

4. Housekeeping amenities... the hotel provides one 500 ml bottle of water free in the room per occupant per day... that is just not enough in a place that is hot year round... I requested for extra bottles at around 11.30 at night and was rudely asked to go out and buy the bottles from the closest 7-eleven or the hotel would provide me a bottle on a charge of Baht 50 per bottle! The hotel should realise that when you're traveling with kids, your needs are different. But unfortunately they did not. After arguing for close to 15 minutes, 3 bottles were grudgingly sent up...

In contrast, I was staying in a Sheraton property in Bangkok just before this stay - I asked them for 6 bottles of water in the evening and they happily sent me 12. That is an experience to wow a cusotmer...

The hotel needs to up it's hospitality if it needs customers like me to want to return to the property.

Having said all that, as I mentioned at the start of the review, we had a good overall stay (as you will see from my rating)... the rooms are really nice and clean (we had one of the pool view rooms on a higher floor), the pool is good and the breakfast was fantastic... the location felt really good too. I would recommend it as a good place to stay in Patong, if the service levels don't tend to bother you too much...

PS - wi-fi in rooms is free...which is a big plus!

Happy travels...

Dear Nikhil,

Thanks for your stay with us and sharing of your review.

Transfer arrangements have always been one of the most difficult task for us to please all our guests esp. when we don't have our own cars/vans and drivers, and compounded by binding terms and conditions set out by transport companies we engage. Part of the reasons of our outsourcing decision is to help save our guests' money as it would cost more if we were to do manage it on our own. We are only asking for THB 1,000.00 per van per way which is very reasonable rate compared to anywhere else you could ask for in Phuket, esp. in a hotel usually will go way beyond THB 1,000.00 per van per way.

We are very sorry to hear that you were not treated politely by the driver who met you at the airport. We have spoken to the transport company's director for disciplinary action to be taken on the driver as this is totally unacceptable to us. Our instruction is clear, the driver can't pick our guests anymore.

We always make sure we have enough towels for all our guests to use, so as adequate facilities and amenities all around. We have started to look into your incident where you said our housekeeper was not polite to you. We can't have staff speaking to guests in such a manner and anyone who did so will be penalized right away and chances are he/she will be dismissed because of that.

Bottled waters are provided just like all other resorts in Phuket and we can't provide too many of them for the price we are asking. We have non-complimentary bottled waters in all our rooms also, but most guests prefer to buy cheaper bottled waters at nearby convenient stores, and perhaps for that reason our front reception colleague suggested you to buy bottled water outside. Nevertheless we appreciate your suggestions that we should provide more bottled waters given the hot weather in Thailand and we will definitely look into this matter seriously.

We want to thank you once again for staying with us, and your feedback on our overall level of service is crucial for us moving forward. We are working hard day and night to improve our services and will continue to cultivate a warm hospitality culture in our resort. We believe a smiling face radiates happiness.

Thank you.

Stayed here in a two bedroom villa with my parents.

The room was lovely. So spacious and fresh. Great location, about 10 minutes walk to jungceylong and everything else.

Staff were great and very helpful. We actually got sick with a bug and all the staff showed concern for how we were feeling and couldn't do enough to help. They noticed us missing from breakfast and asked other family members staying there how we were. We thought that was a nice personal touch.

Breakfast buffet was great. Restaurant at the resort wasn't top notch, but it was cheap and there are a million other restaurants around there that you can eat at anyway.

Pool was nice, small but big enough to relax.

Would definitely recommend this place for anyone, but especially families. It is set back from the main road so it is still a bit secluded and we didn't have any noise or anything.

Would stay here again.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 30, 2012

Stayed at Palmyra Patong for 4 nights in December 2012 (high season). It was one of the few with rooms still available but we were very pleased with the stay. Pool and food is very nice. Only drawback is that no sun touches the pool area because of the surrounding buildings. Rooms are very nice and clean, bathroom is great! We had a balcony off our room, but the view isn't too night (no fault of the hotel, but surrounding area is not too pretty). The Hotel is located in the heart of Patong, a VERY busy/high traffic area (basically all of Patong is like this), but it is set back off the road so that it is peaceful and you are not disturbed by the crazy night life and traffic-- which was a big PLUS. Its about a 5-6 minute walk from Patong beach. We spent most of our time at beaches on the north (more peaceful, cleaner, and less people), so this was not a factor for us, but it is certainly a good location even for Patong beach. Great location for picking up Thailand gifts in the shops if you walk up and down the streets, and near the notorious Banglar road. Staff are all very hard working and attentive, beds are conformable but mattresses are hard (only down side of the room). Included buffet breakfast was surprisingly very good as far a hotels go! Real coffee and fresh milk, and good food.

The facade might not look very impressive but the recently renovated rooms are absolutely impeccable and worth the price. Located very near to the wicked and happening Bangla road, its the most affordable resort in the area and you are unlikely to find a better hotel in the vicinity, offering the same facilities at such amazing tariffs.

The pool is just few step away as it is a room with pool access. Room is cozy and spacious, clean bathroom with shower and bathtub. Away from the hustle and bustle of Patong wild town but yet it is not that far, just took us 10-15 mins to go to the shopping complex, a walking distance to Patong beach too. Breakfast provided is sufficient, every morning the staff will give us a wakeup call, we appreciate that. Overall satisfy with this one.
