“#1 Place to Stay in Patong!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 3, 2011

Our second trip to Thailand and once again stayed here! Much cheaper during low season as expected but still has the high quality of service you would expect. Friendly faces remembered us from our last trip and nothing was too hard to make our stay more enjoyable. Close to everything you would want in Patong.. Jungceylon, Bangla Road, Markets & The Beach! .. Pele once again made our stay a memorable one!... I wouldn't stay anywhere else!

Customer service was bascily bad, I am an avid traveler and travel for business once a month at least and for a hotel of this standing the service was just disgraceful.

Let me elaborate, the bell boy K.Somchai was quite alright with a decent attitude and smiled when people entered. The ladies manning the front desk were ok as well.
The Ladyboy not kathoy which was in charge of the evening shift was just down right rude.
We happened to leave our keys in the hotel room and requested for him to help open it for us, not a smile not a greeting just told us to go up first. we went up waited for a few mins no one appeared.
I had to go back down to call him to open the door for us a second time before he actually came up. In the lift on the way up I thanked him. Silence. least he could do is reply it was ok or something. nothing.
After that I called down to request to have a taxi booked for the morning to the Airport. He demanded that I went down to pay the 600 batt fee immidiately before he would book the taxi for us. I mean come on do you think we would run away without paying for the taxi fare? that was just pretty demeaning. this was at 2am in the morning by the way.
In all the experiance was just not worth the effort and typical service in Thailand is much better then my experiance here.
The bed by the way are horid with you being able to feel every spring existing woke up with a sore neck both nites I was here.
They also had a safe deposit box located downstairs and that closes by 10 pm everynite. So if you need cash in a hurry at nite too bad for you.
Good points:
The room was relatively clean, they had quite a few channels on TV, The lady check in staff were pleasent. K.Somchai seemed a nice enough guy.

We booked our room online using Ebookers, we thought we were getting a good rate, however when we arrived they would not honour the rate we paid online.

4 hours later, they wanted to charge us 10 times the amount to stay the evening,

Many others were also in the same position, and the manger was very rude and did not care if we sat there all night,

Flying into Phuket and finding we have no room, or have to pay ten times the amount is a bad situation to be in, i would avoid this hotel at all costs.

Great location next to nightlife, shopping and beach. But rooms are very poorly maintained. There was stains on the bedsheets, riped towels and generally dirty feeling about the place. The bed is very uncomfortable too! After changing rooms twice, i still settled for a room with stained sheets. I guess its reflected in the cheap price. Bell boys were great but front office staff very rude. I figure if they're going to be dirty, then they may as well be nice!! Not the case here. Also, internet was down all the time.

The bell boy showed us to the room after check in. The room was not properly clean as the was rubbish in the wardrobe.

There was yellowish patch (stained) on the bed sheet and blackish stained on the duvet. Seems like it was not wash for months.

The bed was extremely uncomfortable. Felt like cheap mattress as the spring was poking my back ( especially I am having spine problem). Called the housekeeping at 11 pm but they are closed for the day. The front office said will send me extra pillow even though houskeeping was closed, but they never appear. The next day they told me they got the wrong room number. I woke up few times in the middle of the night poked by the bad spring mattress.

They offered to change the mattress for the next day, which was better(still felt like cheap mattress as the spring was less poky).

The room was not so sound proof , you can hear every other guest slam their doors( you will see a notice stick inside your door "Do not slam your door & be quiet).

There was very few amenities( only 2 complimentary bottle of water, shower cap, soap & shampoo, no slipper, toothbrush, kettle, free coffee sachets).

I made booking through Booking.com @ 2000 TB - 2200 TB per night (other reviewers mentioned they had booked @ 800 TB - 1500 TB per night). The price I paid could have get a better room in Patong or I should just pay a lot lesser for this resort standard.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 18, 2010

My girlfriend and I stayed at the Amata Resort for six nights in early November, and were pleasantly surprised by the spacious rooms (including balconies) given the low cost of the resort.
The pool is also quite sizable and enjoyable, the only issue being that surrounding buildings block out all but the mid afternoon sunlight. Still, the beach is a short walk away, so who needs a pool?
The construction opposite doesn't really affect the experience, we had a 3rd floor room facing it and the doors on the balcony are sufficiently soundproofed to block all but the most insistent of the noise. It was also quite fine to sit on the balcony with a cold drink, as the construction wasn't very obtrusive.
The staff here are a highlight, very helpful with all enquiries and always willing to give you that much needed towel/umbrella/whatever well before you even ask for it.
Breakfast wasn't exceptional, but when you're literally a two minute walk from dozens of cheap restuarants, that's not really an issue.
Location is great, with a short (less than 5 minute) walk to Bangla Road, Jungceylon, the beach (through the Patong Resort) and everything Patong has to offer.
For such a cheap hotel, I'd find it hard to fault the Amata. We really enjoyed our stay here, and it's exceptional as a base when exploring the wider world of Patong Beach and Phuket!
