Stayed at the Lamai hotel in Patong for 11 nights and have no complaints. The aircon worked fine, rooms were cleaned every day and the minibar was reasonably priced.
It's 5 minutes away from the Jungleceylon shopping centre and ten minutes from Bangla road where most of the beer bars etc. are.
The hotel has a 24 hour reception which means your safety deposit box is guarded all the time. There's also free internet usage which was good for booking internal flights etc.
Also if you bring a girl back they take her ID card meaning she's not likely to walk off with your newly acquired fake Rolex or, more importantly, your wallet.
The only downside is that it's pretty noisy being on the main road but if you're having a few beers and turning in late that shouldn't be a problem.
