the Princes Guesthouse, where we had a cosy little room with a TV with BBC World, free wifi, and a great view over the Nong Jong Kham lake and Wats Jong Kham and Jong Klam, was our home for 3 weeks while we worked at a local orphanage. Apart from some pesky ants and a few cats which are lovely unless you are trying to eat dinner on the terrace, and regular power cuts, it was a good place to stay. The owner also knocked a third off the price of our room when she heard we were volunteers.

We arrived at Prince’s Guesthouse and agreed to book a room. However, after setting our stuff down in the room, we changed our minds. The a/c unit was very old and barely worked. When we knelt on the bed to see what was wrong with the a/c, we noticed some type of animal droppings and dirt on the bed and a ton of spider webs and other filth behind and around it. The whole place seemed dirty and unsanitary and it wasn’t even that cheap. For just a little bit more money, we stayed at the Baiyoke Chalet and had a great experience. Don’t stay at Prince’s.

good location and this guest house looked nice ,however the english man clive that owns it is far from helpful and his gay partner a thai young boy is very rude and also has his mother and younger brother also, with many nosie friends always around shouting and laughing and alot of drinking this was a hugh let down under different ownership this place would be great, but try for yourself if you like the sound of this place. But i would have to say that the gay thai boy lek was the worst for sure other wise a great place.

This was my second stay at the very well situated rambling guesthouse on the lake at Mae Hong Son. The view from the balcony at night is second to none. And the back gate onto the park means easy access to the lake.
Our room was small but adequate with a double and a single bed for the two of us. We stayed for four nights but our room was not serviced once. We paid 350baht per night.
The Thai family who jointly own the guesthouse are very helpful and charming. Unfortunately their business partner is a drunk, abusive englishman who is causing them endless grief.
After listening to his rantings and ravings from our bedroom until 11pm one night we moved out the next day.
I would not recommend this place until Clive the englishman leaves.

  • Liked — view over lake
  • Disliked — Clive the english part-owner

this was a very pleasant ,slightly quirky g/hse ...my room was very clean and came with great views over the lake ,,actually stunning at night ..
the front person ,a very lethargic english guy ,married into the business ,,far from forthcoming in any sense ,failed to put me off the place as everything else was great ..
free computer and the driver they arranged for me was a good deal for budget traveller ..
room with own shower etc $400 ,I think ..
I would definitely stay there again ..

  • Liked — quirky layout ,,friendliness ,,price and views and closeness to lake
  • Disliked — sorry the one dissapointment ,may just be my problem
