We travel, with our 2 thirteen and eleven year old English/Australian/Thai children quite a lot and visit Thailand every 2 years. We felt like a change from our usual visit,after a week with Kun Yai (grandma), to the great Hilton at Hua Hin.

I spent a lot of time researching a trip to Kabi and Tripadvisor provided a lot of useful information, even though I found, subsequently, that a lot of the reviews, probably from people who had not in the past experienced good hotels in South East Asia, were quite misleading.

I was a bit surprised that there were no "chain" hotels, Hilton, Sheraton etc, in Ao Nang, so looked at the list of independant hotels very carefully. Vogue had a lot of good reviews even though it seemed from a lot of reviews to be somewhere between a 2 minute and 10 minute walk (up and down the hill) to and from the beach. Also the hotels street front restaurant was said to be very good in price and quality compared with other local restaurants.

Our experience over the five days we were there was quite disappointing. Firstly Ao Nang is a mediocre place, somewhere between the backpacker and package tourist level but not really catering for either. I wouldnt recommend it to anybody who has travelled around much.

The Vogue Resort is a narrow tropical wedge quite a long way up the sloping main street from the beach. It is not a particularly comfortable walk which is not helped by the number of steps to be negotiated within the hotel, particularly to the better rooms on the third floor. The pool was under renovation (without any advance notice) and not available so they arranged for us to use the pool at a hotel down the street. We were upgraded to the best rooms in the hotel, which were nice, but I would not have been happy with a lesser standard. Food and staff service were very ordinary.

Overall, quite diasappointing. There seemed to be better hotels there, for a similar price; irrespective of the hotels I would recommend that you give Ao Nang a miss.

I understand now why the better hotels are at more isolated locations along the coast.

The stay in the hotel was absolutely great!
Very good 4 star hotel (in some details I would even think as of 5 star hotel).
Nice property, clean and comfortable rooms, always smiling staff - is there something more you need for nice stay?

The only small thing would be great to improve - more English knowledge of the staff who comes into direct contact with guests.
(of course this was not a problem of staff at the front desk).

I would highly recommend this hotel for everyone who is looking for a bit of luxury in Ao Nang.

I visited Krabi 17 years ago, so I wanted to visit it again. I read at TripAdvisor some bad reviews on hotels in AuNang beach of Krabi, so I decided to take a more expensive hotel, that had relatively better reviews.
I was disappointed because the hotel management are missing something very important: service.
The setting is lovely, with cool pool side, and nice rooms, but once the maid forgot to place new towels, and once they forgot to renew the fruit basket (a point that was in our deal), and when we arrived teh mosquito screen (between the room and teh balcony) was out of its rail even though I asked ahead of time to ensure our room was functioning.
Breakfast was too simple, without any surprise.
The hotel has clea disadvantage of being a bit far from the beach, so I expected them to compensate by better service.
Pitty.

Overall a disappointment. They "claim" to be a 4 star hotel but far from it. The rooms are okay (standard Best Western in North America), breakast is nothing to write home about, location to okay -- although I would definitely NOT stay in AO Nang again. Ao Nang is dirty, too crowded, too commercialized, beaches are aweful. Go to Railay beach or Koh Lanta. We had issue with our hotel transfer back to the airport. Our booking agent told us it was included (and it was written clearly on our receipt). They claimed that transfers are never included, even called our booking agent and in the end, instead of being a "real 4 star hotel" which would just take care of the customer (the whole $10 taxi ride they would be out) we just left and barely made our flight. Don't expect 4 star as they state and if you want 4 star treatment, don't stay here.
