“Really good”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 7, 2013

This hostel was the second best one of my trip. The bedrooms is really clean very good beds and the bathroom is all right. The only problem is the location because its not really close to the beach, you must take a tuk tuk. and around the hostel there is just some markets and a river, wich is cool.
Staff are friendly and at night you can have some fun at the bar, normally people gather there to drink.

I thoroughly enjoyed my 3 nights at Pak-Up hostel in April 2013.
I stayed in a 10 bed female dorm on the 3rd floor. The price was 270 baht per night.
The beds are comfortable and each one has its own light and power outlet. The luggage lockers are large drawers under the beds and very secure. The AC is turned off in the middle of the day, not a big deal if you are out and about, but worth noting if you plan on sleeping in the afternoon!
I met some lovely people in the communal area downstairs and found the staff to be very helpful.
There is a fantastic morning market in town that is great for breakfast. The free maps in the lobby show where it is (approximately 5 minute walk from the hostel).

The hostel is really clean and the staff is very friendly. They'll help you book tours for a good price and let you know what's to do in town. The rooftop bar has happy hour and live music all week and this is a great place to meet some people. The best hostel I stayed in in Thailand so far.

Would not bother with this place. It's a total rip off. For 600 baht for a private room you could get a luxury hotel in ao nang or railay nearby which I soon realised - unless you are really bothered about meeting other travellers. Personally I don't care about meeting other people, I just had to spend a night in krabi as I arrived at night and looking back 600 baht (plus a strange 300 baht deposit) was not worth it.

Staff - thoroughly unpleasant. Wouldn't know the meaning of customer service if it slapped them in the face. They were just snappy and rude and asking them for anything was like asking them to perform key hole surgery or something. I mean, you are running a business - you don't smile? I don't return.

Also this place is soooo noisy ! They have a live 'band' on their rooftop bar EVERY night until 1AM. And they CANNOT sing at all. So I had a terrible night's sleep.

Save your money for nice hotels for the same price in ao nang or railay as Krabi town is very boring anyway nothing to do.

Xx

I stayed alone and It was nice.
If you stay in this hostel, you have to go to drink on the rooftop and look around the night view.
I really enjoyed drinking on the rooftop.
And there staffs were so kind and helpful!

Absolutely amazing hostel; best we've stayed in so far in Thailand and any other country. Very clean and modern rooms, did not feel over crowded, enough space for all your luggage, with large drawers under the beds. Extremely friendly and helpful staff, we felt very welcomed and comfortable in the hostel. Intended on only spending one night and ended up staying for 3. Great bar downstairs, great fun, a lot of lovely and friendly people.

Only down side would be that it is not a particularly exciting area, there's not a lot to do, but you can get a ferry to Railay Beach which is beautiful, and close to Ao Nang, great for a couple of days.

For the amount I paid, I think the hostel was exceptional. There is a great terrace and a bar to meet people which is important when travelling alone. The drinks were relatively cheap and the wifi in the rooms was also great. The location wasn't the best but it's a short taxi away from the main beaches and attractions.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
'Once you come to Pak Up, you will never want to pak up.' If you are looking for a top notch hostel within accessible distance to all of Krabis' famous attractions while paying a budget price then you are at the right place! At Pak Up, we work hard to ensure every detail is right and the place is spotlessly clean, beds are comfy while providing all the best nightlife Krabi Town has to offer within our safe and secure premises. While still relatively new, we have been constantly recommended and commended on all hostel websites, this year being classed as top three in Asia 2013 by Hostelbookers. Pak Up management strives to go from strength to strength, keeping up with all the new global trends in the world of hostels and budget travel. When you arrive, you will notice this is nothing like the run of the mill hostel you will typically find in SE Asia. As a former school, the hostel is themed accordingly room by room and is in a loft style oversized setting. All our rooms are set to the same standard, with international plugs, reading lights, under-bed lockers and 3.5 ft beds. From the ground floor reception, to the fourth floor Top-Up Bar (Sky Bar) and back down to the increasingly famous 'Playground' downstairs, this place is designed to impress. During the day you will be able to either take advantage of the many tours available at our reception desk or just chill out on one the many terraces dotted all over the hostel. Our tour desk offers a seamless way to see everything in Krabi at a reasonable price and you will never be left stranded anywhere. Our staff are trained to make sure you avoid stress. At night, well that's another matter all together! Playground, as the name suggests, is a place for big kids like us to socialize, drink, play, and generally acquire great memories along with great friends from day one. The staff and in house entertainers will strive to offer the very best in hostel entertainment with great deals on whenever you care to visit our bars. Our 'Playground' is currently the only place in south east asia to offer regular Jelly Wrestling with a dedicated pit and commentaries. Top-Up bar, with its panoramic views, superb mixologists and breezy feel, is a place to escape after a long day travelling. ... more   less
