I spent one week at this hotel in late May and early June 2007. I must say that overall the hotel was "nice" I certainly would not consider this a 4 or 5-star hotel. I'm sure for the area, this is considered one of the two top hotels in Khon Kaen (the Sifotel being the other). However, other than convenient 24 hour room service and a nice nite view from the 18th floor of Khon Kaen (NOT attractive in the day time, by the way!), there really wasn't anything outstanding about the hotel. I've stayed in Motel 8's (a budget hotel for those that don't know) in America with better TV's and slightly smaller rooms. The pool was acceptable, the weight room disappointing and staff didn't seem friendly or concerned with things like getting the correct time of my wake-up call or fixing the lock on my door that would not open easily.
Yes, at 1900 baht per nite (about $50 American), it's a bargain. But you must put it in perspective and realize that 1900 baht a nite for a hotel is a staggering high price in Khon Kaen. You can rent a modern apartment for 4000 baht a month in Khon Kaen! Putting that in perspective, one nite in this hotel is about half the cost of a montly apartment. Let me give an example - I'm from Phoenix (USA), where the average aparment rental is about $800 a month. That means that in Phoenix, this hotel would be an approximately $400 a nite hotel - for that price, this place should be a 5-star top resort! It simply is not. However, it's clean & safe. But my recommendation would be to look into the Sifotel or go for a cheaper hotel and save some money.
