“Little Gem on the River Kwai”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 22, 2013

We booked the Oriental Kwai Resort due to its great reviews and reasonable price. It is a family-run resort but the service is professional and excellent as other big resorts. The location is great, it is only 15 mins drive from the main tourist attractions ea. the 'Bridge On the River Kwai' and 'War Museum'.

The cottage is good size, clean, well-maintain and nicely designed. The garden is beautiful. The pool looks great but i didn't have a chance to try it. We had dinner at the restaurant on the riverside. Food was great, good price, fantastic atmosphere.

The owner is friendly as well as other staff (even the dogs!). They have a few dogs in the resort, they are cute and some of them were always come and join us while we sitting at the cottage's terrace.

All in all, the only disappoint was we wish we could stay longer. I've been recommending this place to my friends and families. We will return.

Stayed at the Oriental Kwai for a few days in May 13. This is a really excellent familly-run hotel with a great feel and superb, personal service. I would echo the many other positive comments that have been made on this site.

Room Tip: They are all modern and well-equipped bungalows.

What a gorgeous hotel to stay at, it's perfect in every way. I have a certain standard of hotel and use one particular Thai hotel as a benchmark wherever I travel but Oriental Kwai outstripped this by a million miles. I still cannot get over the perfection of this place, it's called attention to detail.
There is nothing that escapes Evelien or Joe the owners of this hotel, their eye for detail and running a fabulous resort is just amazing. The rooms are bungalows set a little apart from one another, they are large airy rooms, beautifully furnished in Thai style, a stylish bathroom, tea and coffee facilities, a verandah with chairs to sit on and mosquito coils in easy reach, a table to put a drink on. The bed is slightly hard, I feel really picky even mentioning this and is the only tiny negative thing I can find. Hammocks in those beautiful gardens, loungers on a deck on the banks of the river. I have never stayed in such a fabulous place and I compare the le Meridien and the Dusit Thani in Bangkok to this hotel.
The gardens are magnificent, the restaurant overlooking the river Kwai is just lovely. Great swimming pool, maintained properly, some sun loungers and chairs and staff that light the citronella candles near the pool every evening arrive at a trot to ensure guests are not bitten, fans in the restaurant to cool you, it's unending. We ate at the hotel restaurant every night, the prices are reasonable and the food delicious. Breakfast was yummy too.
Day trips to the Erawan Falls, Hellfire Pass etc. easily arranged through the hotel, a long boat ride to see the bridge over the river Kwai was super and a visit to Elephant's World are unmissable whilst there.
I would return to this hotel in a heartbeat and will do so in the future, there is much more to see in this area and I have to admit to spending about 2 hrs in the town of Kanchanaburi, there is better stuff to experience than that. The hotel is set in a rural area and will not appeal to the serious party goer but for people looking for tranquility and beauty this is for you.

Room Tip: They are all lovely, set in beautiful gardens. It is a quiet, serene place.

Fabulous place right by the river. We had the family room. Plenty of space. Beautifully designed and furnished. Opened our door to a terrific view over the River Kwai. Lovely pool. Staff and service excellent. Very friendly and extremely efficient. Managed to combine a lovely relaxed atmosphere with an extremely high level of service. We stayed one night, then had two nights away at Elephants World and came back for another two nights. Oriental Kwai looked after the bulk of our luggage for us (at no extra charge) and it was waiting for us in our room when we got back. Comfortably one of the best places we've ever stayed.

We stayed 3 nights at Oriental Kwai and wished we could stay longer. The staff were fantastic and egar to help. Evelien and Joe were so friendly, could not be nicer people. The grounds were keeped in perfect condition and the pool was a nice sight at the end of a hot day touring. I highly recommend The Oriental Kwai as a place to stay and relax. BTW the food served at the restaurant was fantastic and make sure you book the river view cabin. Paradise!!!

We've just returned from spending 4 nights at this wonderful resort with our two sons aged 12 and 14yrs and cannot recommend it highly enough. The owner Evelien and her staff were so friendly and helpful and nothing was too much trouble. The resort is a little slice of paradise. We tried to think of what could be done to improve the resort and our stay there and couldn't come up with anything. Attention to detail is amazing.
We will definitely return in the future and recommend to our friends.
