Owner description: The town of Kanchanaburi is 129 kilometres North-West of Bangkok and is best reached by road, along the National Highway which runs north from the capital. There are bus and train services from Bangkok. Kanchanaburi War Cemetery is situated adjacent to Saeng Chuto Road which is the main road through the town. When approaching from Bangkok, the cemetery is on the left side of the road, towards the far (northern) end of the town. A Commission signpost faces the cemetery on the opposite side of the road.

“A moving & very well maintained place.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 2, 2014

This is a moving & very well maintained place. I have been here several times over the years & I am always moved by the amount of time & effort put into maintaining this war cemetry. Not a blabe of grass out of place & each & every head stone cleaned to perfection.

“Very well maintained WW2 Cemetery”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 30, 2014

Hard to imagine all these head stones belong to Allied Service personnel who died during the building of the bridge and the railway during WW2. The Cemetery is very well laid out and maintained.

“So many ...so young”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 26, 2014

I think there's about 5000 at this cemetery and another 1800 in another cemetery we didn't visit. We walked amongst the memorials for the British servicemen and were struck by how young most of them seemed to be.

“They were young once too”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 24, 2014

Part of our tour in Kanchanaburi took us to the cemetery where allied prisoners of war are buried. The cemetery is well maintained and everything looked neat and tidy. Walking past each gravestone, you can see how young these men were when they gave up their lives. These men could have made something for themselves but instead are now thousands of miles from home. We must never forget the futility of war.
