“Why stay anywhere else!?”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 18, 2010

We stayed at Xanadu for 2 nights and will definitely be going back! Dennis and Nee are the most welcoming and helpful of hosts and nothing is too much trouble... They have managed to create a stunning setting by the river with lovely apartments, gardens, wildlife and pool not to mention the food which is superb! It may be a little out of town but its the perfect antidote to Bangkok. A must on everyone's itinerary!

Dennis and Nee have created a little garden of Eden in this beautiful spot which is about 20 minutes by taxi out of town - there's nothing nearby. Great if you're looking to relax in a beautiuful environment with great hosts but not so good if you're wanting to take in the night scene although Dennis was always at hand to organise transport. One tip if you do go into town without booking a return trip is make sure you take a note and preferably a map of where you're staying because we found that no-one knew where Xanadu was! The rooms were spacious with modern air conditioning but little else. We steyd three nights and would have welcomed a towels change and our toilet bin emptied but we were encouraged to padlock our room so there was no chance for anyone to get in and clean. Great value though and I would recommend it.

We decided to stay at Xanadu after reading all the fantastic reviews written by everyone!

I now know why everyone leaves Xanadu and Kanchanaburi on such a high note.
Xanadu is along the River Kwai, with a beautifully maintained garden, run by a very charming couple Dennis and Nee. Nee is a great cook and we were very lucky to have some of the most authentic Thai dishes, the best we had on our whole trip. Staying at Xanadu was relaxing, enjoyable and they made you feel like an old friend.

Excellent value for money, highly recommended!

I had the opportunity to visit and stay with Dennis and Nee for a few days . They were very good hosts and treated us like longtime freinds . The food was some of the best cooking we experienced in all of Thailand . We were very happy with the room and for the price I dont think there is a better deal anywhere .

I can only agree with all of the previous reviews. The resort is a little out of town but that is its appeal. The rooms were spacious and clean and the gardens excellent. Dennis was always willing to help organise transport and activities and someone was there ready to take us in next to no time. The pool was excellent as was the deck on the river. Nee was able to provide excellent food, both Thai and Western. This place was a great find and we would recommend it to anyone. The booking process was painless compared to some others that I had undertaken in Thailand before.

We have been in Xanadu only for one night, but our fabuolous hosts made us feel completely at home and treated us with a kindness that is second to none. Nee is a magician in the kitchen and Dennis and Nee together gave us good advise on where to go and what to see. Rooms are basic but perfectly clean, gardens are well kept and the view on the river as relaxing as anything can be. Slightly outside the city centre (well away from the noisy karaoke bars), but easily reachable by taxi or tuk tuk, Xanadu is the perfect place if you are looking for a relaxing base for exploring Kanchanburi and the surrounding areas and enjoy the pleasant company of your hosts. We can highly recommend Xanadu and we will surely stay here next time we visit Kanchanaburi.

My wife and I spent 2 nights at Xanadu 2008 on a quick trip to Kanchanaburi from Bangkok. Dennis and Nee were wonderful hosts in terms of their helpfulness and guidance on things to do in our brief time in the area and in general just seem to be very nice people.

We were drawn to Xanadu by the rave reviews previous guests had given of Nee's cooking. We can now attest to how great her cooking really is - the home-cooked food we had at Xanadu (inc. the Thai style breakfasts) was amongst the best food we had in our 10 day trip in Thailand.

Rooms are fairly basic but at this price Xanadu is an unbelievable value (esp. with the location on the River Kwai and great service). Dennis and Nee also helped arrange a great one-day tour of the highlights in the area, an excellent Thai massage at Suan Nanachaat (must do for anyone visiting) and the 150 baht/person minivan back to Bangkok.

Kanchanaburi and Xanadu 2008 are both places we would definitely like to go back to and would wholeheartedly recommend to anyone.
