If you're looking for a relaxed Hua Hin holiday and want to stay in a place full of charm and elegance, then choose the Old Railway Hotel - the Sofitel. It's oozing with reminders of the golden age of 1920s travel, and the staff are friendly and helpful, the food excellent and the rooms spacious. Afternoon tea in the museum cafe is a lovely way to while away a few hours. The other huge advantage of this hotel is that it's walking distance to the shops and cafes of Hua Hin and the great night market. Go to Pix Planet Photography for beautiful Thai landscape photos. My only pernickety points about the hotel are that the rooms didn't have DVD players or big TVs (although rumour was that flat screens were soon to be installed) and pool staff were very slow to get towels out. Not a big deal, though. Breakfast was a buffet and plentiful and varied. Would definitely stay there again.
Also should mention that my sister and brother-in-law were travelling with us with their two-year-old son. The hotel was incredibly accommodating for a toddler with a lovely cot and free elephant soft toys provided, and a good little kid pool. And the hotel arranged transfers to/from Bangkok with a western-standard car seat (rare for Thailand).
