We first stayed here in Mar 2008 (recommended by a friend). Have just returned from another visit (as part of a holiday travelling around Thailand) and are already planning another stay in early 2010. A small, intimate, resort with friendly and gracious (as is the Thai way) staff. Beach is seconds away - through beautifully manicured gardens - and a walk along it for approx 1.5 hrs (at beachcombing pace) takes one right to the centre of Hua Hin. In the other direction (towards Khao Takiab - well worth a visit), lies "Madame Greens" - a superb no-frills fish restaurant frequented almost entirely by Thais (always a good sign). HOWEVER, if your sole aspiration on holiday is to acquire a poolside deckchair for the day (with the inevitable towel) in advance of your fellow guests then, in our experience, you'd better be (a) Scandinavian, (b) a very early riser, or (c) just plain sad. (feel free to tick all that apply)... Frankly, we regard life as rather too short for such infantile behaviour ...........

Overpriced (nothing unusual about that though)

My family stayed here over the Xmas/New Year period in two rooms for Bt 4100 each; a few years back I'd have expected to pay Bt 1800 per night for 3 star rooms like these: the furniture looked like it had been nailed together out of packing cases and the rats in the air conditioning woke one up with their squeals and scampering. The pool could accommodate 25% of the guests on sunbeds at the very most and there was no pool boy to provide towels or cushions. Practically next door at the 5 star Hyatt, the rooms were on special offer at Bt4500 and far better value, with proper facilities. The restaurant was completely disappointing: to make matters worse, the Thai owners family turned up and needed four of the fifteen downstairs tables just to seat them - at least after that we got table cloths on our table. You must have a car if you stay here and will need to use it to get something reasonable to eat. The only site of turtles you'll see at this resort are the concrete ones in the garden (Baan Talay Dao - House on Turtle Beach).

Baan Talay Dao is a very nice place. I stayed there before the construction works next door started so I can’t tell about this. I agree with what has been said about the pool: It’s smallish and when occupied by children there is no way to escape the noise. The problem with Hua Hin is that one depends on pools for swimming since the beaches and the sea are of very poor quality everywhere, one just can’t use them, and not only because of the jellyfish.
A car is certainly a good idea when you stay at this resort since it’s out of the way. And there are places to visit (viewpoints, Maruekhathaiyawan Palace) you can only reach by car or (expensive) taxis.
But still, it’s good value, the rooms are spotless, the staff is nice and the restaurant is very close to the beach and serves good food.

Very nice tiny resort in the seafront. Room, pool and the seafront-breakfast are all very relax. staffs are very nice , smiling and try to help!

But there only one problem, a big one: beside this hotel there is a building work, they are just start to build a hug appartement next door of this hotel. So big noise all the day, from 8 a.m. until very late in the night. this is some kind of noise which no body wants to support during a holliday time.

We've stayed there for 3 nights in septeber/2008, to see the hug work site, we don't think the building will be finish in about 6 months coming.

  • Liked — the seafront area.
  • Disliked — the build work just next door of the hotel. (we can see very well the hug base of the apprtement!)

We stayed at the Baan Talay Dao for two weeks and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. As others state, it is quiet and very, very friendly. The rooms and the service is what you can expect from a 3+ hotel - and maybe some more. The opportunity to borrow DVD:s from the front desk is absolutely an extra bonus. Breakfast by the pool overlooking the beach is also thoroughly enjoyable. And the restaurant by the beach is excellent.

However, there are some disadvantages that I would like to add; the pool, even though very nice is small and when occupied by a group of children it becomes impossible to lay around and enjoy pool life. The beach is not very nice at this area and the coming and going of the tide makes sure that you cannot spend time there. You have to be prepared to stay by the pool and as the pool area is, to a large extent, shaded by trees, you do not have to worry too much about applying sun tan lotion.

Another disadvantage is that thee area is so quiet that it becomes almost boring. There are a few grocery shops close by, but nothing else and if you are in the mood for some shopping, it is 5 km away, so you need to take a taxi to almost everything. The shuttle service works fine, but it is only twice a day and not timed for dinner in town.
