“Definitely will be BACK!!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 6, 2011

We paid only RM8 each for a triple room =) Amazingly cheap yet clean and spacious. If you're looking for a budget guest house, this is a really nice place. I always see them mopping the floor and the employees are really really helpful and friendly!!!!
The bathroom looks a lil bit rundown but clean (although we found cockroach on the 2nd night but it was alright for us cos we kept reminding ourselves RM8)
It's a lil bit warm in the room, no AC but it was alright cos the fan speed is adjustable (note: in Thai 1 means fastest, 4 means slowest) the switch for the light was also at the opposite direction =P
Location is good too, walking distance to shopping malls and markets.
Try the breakfast place opposite the Guest house (Pak Tai Coffee Shop) we found it coincidentally =) the Pak Tai is really good!!
If you happen to be around during the weekend, be sure to visit the Floating Market and there's this awesome massage place which cost only 200 Baht for 2hours. Ask the reception for the location.
WARNING do not take the tour from the downstairs travel, walk around and you will find a better deal.

For 7USD, this room is worth staying as it is right in the town center,no hot water but the water is not really that cold and is generally clean. Can't find any cheaper than this. Room was big with mosqito net on all window, queen size bed with much space to walk around in room. Best was nearby to market and eating stall, the only things i don't like is noise from the street, BUT after 10pm it is much quieter.
Right at the ground floor is a travel agency with reasonable price, bought my bus ticket here to Krabi, cheaper than most agency. Staff were overall friendly and helpful. Will stay here if visit here again.

I stayed here recently and i have to say, it is by far the cheapest room i ever stayed in. I'm in a tight budget that day, and i got one night to stay in hat yai before going back to Kuala lumpur. For 2000 baht per room , you will get a dirty floor room , a bit smelly from the moist toilet door, and a creepy looking toilet. But like the title, its okay for the cheap price you pay. If you are under a tight budget, cathay guesthouse is your place to stay.

Room Tip: Dont expect much from a cheap room.

I stayed here as it was/is a cheap option. It is the best cheap option in town having tried some other Guest Houses. It is clean and has everything you need for a stop over on your way to Malaysia or the other way around. There is no traveler athmosphere so. The rooms are clean. A bit scary was. that the windows hardly close and anyone could, if staying in another room, jump in. It is a really good value for 200 Bhat.

I booked into Cathay Guesthouse, at 11.50pm, on the way to Malaysia. The double room was 200B per night. Facilities were; own bathroom (very basic with a squat toilet) cold water only, fan, towels, electricity points and a comfy bed. The room was clean and tidy, as was the rest of the guesthouse. There is a restaurant, book exchange and travel agency on site. Over all this was a decent option especially for a quick stay on the way from/to Malaysia. It is on the same side as the main entrance to the train station.
