“Nothing to shout about”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 30, 2013

Some good angle for photo. There are different portion of the wall that still show some history. But you will need to read up to understand what you are seeing. Else, join one of the old city tour will help

“Great feeling of antiquity”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 5, 2013

Chiang Saen used to be the capital of Lanna before Chiangmai & was founded in 1328. When it was recaptured in 1804 from the Burmese, who had occupied it for nearly 300 years, the king burned it to the ground to prevent the Burmese taking it back. There are over 100 ruins in Chiang Saen along with the remains of the city walls, which gives the town a wonderful feeling of antiquity & history. This town is definitely worth a visit if you are interested in the history if Thailand.

“City Walls”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 17, 2013

Full of history and goes further back than European history. Maybe shows what a violent past it was on this border.

“Temple Ruins”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 3, 2013

somewhere nearby the Temple, this is the ruins of Chiang Saen. Do dropby and have a feel. Till now, they do pray to some kind of spirits and you can see the mini house and meats to sacrifice for the spirit in the house.
