We've now stayed at the River House twice and it must be one of the friendliest - if not the friendliest - hotel we've stayed in, amongst many in Thailand. The staff are delightful and super helpful. It has a beautiful garden, full of flowers in December. The rooms are very large, well laid out and equiped, all with a lovely view over the garden and the river. The hotel is a few minutes outside Chiang Rai, but they run a shuttle bus into the night market. The rates for car and driver hire are also reasonable (and we had a very nice, modern vehicle), so it is a good base for touring the north. The food is okay - if the could push it up a notch this would be not just good value but one of the best deals in Thailand.

We stayed here for one night in November 2009 after arriving late on a flight from Bangkok. Transport was ready and waiting to take us to the hotel. On arrive it was clean and we were greeted with clod drinks. The room was large and well equipt with a perfect bathroom.

We went to go out to the night market in Chiang Rai and were taken by the hotel transport which saved a lot of messing around.

In the morning we opened the room door and saw a fantastic view of the Mekok river. Breakfast was served in a very quiet eating area with a fantastic smimming pool outside, gardens and views of the River. After breakfast we had a good look around the grounds and wandered over a bamboo bridge to the organic garden.

The hotel was very quiet. We didn't see one other guest during our stay. The staff fell over themselves to be helpful in a genuine and accomodating way.

We stayed 5 nights at the River House and were absolutely satisfied with every aspect. Ther room was excellent and well serviced, position, surroundings and manicured gardens beautiful and all staff were brilliant! If you're looking for something a few minutes out of town, quiet, well kept and friendly, you should be very happy with this place.

This hotel was BEAUTIFUL! The pool was gorgeous. The rooms were gorgeous. The grounds of the hotel were filled with flowers and statues. You can see the river from the hotel, which is also a very cool thing! The service was fabulous, the food in the restaurant was good, and it had a van that took you in and out of town pretty much whenever you wanted to go. I would HIGHLY recommend this hotel!
