We stayed 4 nights at this wonderful hotel. This hotel is hands down the best in the area as we could actually see both Laos and Burma from our lovely top floor balcony. Very pleasant views of the 2 rivers, watching slow boats cross the triangle on the way to China.

This is the only hotel with such a view. Other hotels say that they are on the triangle but are not. The nearest hotel was probably 1km away. Chiang Saen is not on the Golden Triangle but another 10km away and Chiang Rai about 2hrs by bus.

You may have some trouble getting here if free wheeling. We caught the overnight VIP bus from Bangkok to Chiang Mai and then the public bus service from Chiang Mai to Chiang Saen, then tuktuk to hotel (18hrs in total).

Only a short walk to the pleasant golden triangle tourist attraction, and boat tours.

Large hotel but very quiet and constantly maintained with beautiful grounds. Staff were very presentable and accommodating. Rooms were very comfortable, spacious, and clean. We had to join 2 single beds together, to make a double (didn't bother us).

The restaurant also has an equally commanding view of the Triangle, breakfast was a fantastic buffet. Should have had dinner in the hotel as there isn't much around.

The price was excellent value, they could easily charge double for being the only hotel on such a landmark.

Tours offered by the hotel, can be customised. Our guide was flexible and very knowledgeable with excellent English. We took the tour to the King Mother's Royal Garden, Akha Hill tribe, Monkey/Fish Cave, Mae Sai and Tachilek (Burma).

Overall, highly recommend this hotel for independent travellers who want the full experience of being on the Golden Triangle.

Stayed here for the third night of a 5 night tour old kingdoms tour with WTS. We had booked this tour independently via the internet. The tour was excellent.

We arrive mid afternoon which meant we spent a bit of time round the pool which was quite far from the hotel., a phone was available to phone for drinks ect but we never bothered. During the day there were lots of stalls open around the hotel but these all shut at night time. We had visited the opium museum it was very interesting.

We only stayed on Bed and breakfast basis so we went to find some where to eat at night; we walked past a lovely temple but in the end only had a drink in a local bar and opted to eat at the hotel as there was very limited choice out side. It was an experience, food on the whole was good the boys opted for European dishes and they were on the unusual side they had smash with crisps decorating the top. Also all 4 meals were served at different time’s meaning that we all eat separately. There is no real bar in the hotel but one in the restaurant.

We were able to eat outside for breakfast, the view was stunning.

The rooms we fine, had a balcony with a great view. No safe and you could borrow a hairdryer from reception. Fine for one night but wouldn’t have wanted to stay any longer.

If the Golden Triangle is a must on your travels, the Imperial offers the best view of the confluence of the Nam Ruak and Mekong Rivers and the borders of three countries – all from your balcony. This five-story resort is more like a hotel but that does not take anything away from the comfort it offers. Sop Ruak is a small village but attracts a lot of tourists for the historic location and the two Opium museums. The staff are reasonable friendly but a bit light on I felt. The buffet lunch is well worth it and the breakfast is fine if you manage to find the egg chef. WIFI is not wireless but you can plug your laptop into the foyer modem. Transport in the village is scarce but most attractions are within walking distance.

  • Liked — The location and view from all rooms
  • Disliked — The hotel feel that could be anywhere if not for th eview

Have stayed at the Imperial Golden Triangle at least 10 times over the last 5 years. The best thing about this hotel is the peace and tranquility you feel as soon as you arrive in the reception area. The hotel has a very no fuss feel to it which some people might view as not good service, I find it a massive bonus to a relaxing holiday, not to have staff constantly asking if everything is ok. The staff at the hotel I have always found very friendly and helpful with any enquiries I have had to make. I have only eaten in the dining room on one occasion in the evening and the food was ok, but there are so many small local restaurants to be found to sample real Thai food, that I tend to eat at these places as they are better and cheaper. The rooms are perfectly adequate but not of the highest standard in Thailand but have all the facilities you will need. The view from the hotel balconies is lovely, and the view from the dining room at breakfast is one of my favourite views in the world. Unfortunately I will no longer be staying at this hotel as I have now built a house nearby, but I will still be calling in to say hello and look at the view.

We stayed here for two nights while on a tour. We were very happy with this hotel. It was a good location for visiting some Hill Tribes as well as taking a side trip into Myanmar (Burma) and also taking a river trip to an island in Laos. Very nice view from the hotel and the food was good in the restaurant. There were some Thai dancers for entertainment in the evening at dinner. There was a nice little balcony off our room that overlooked the Golden Triangle . The only slightly bad thing about this hotel was a moldy odor in the room due to the fact that the air conditioning turned off when the card key was removed from the room (whenever we left). There is quite a bit of fog here at times and the AC probably needs to run all the time to prevent the moldy smell. Other than that this place was great.
