The hotel location is excellent, and the staff are friendly. Had a large room with a view of the river. However, the bathrooms are quite old, the carpeitng in the rooms is in desperate need of replacement, and the hotel was filled with mostly large tour groups - not very intimate. The gym is a bit of a joke - most of the equipment is quite old and not operating well, and the hours are too restrictive. For the price, compared to other DUSIT properties, it is not reasonable value for the price.

The Dusit Island Resort is a great hotel. It is well located on an island in the river with great vistas. The staff is very attentive, rooms large and well appointed. The pool and amenities are also of very high standards with a great spa for massages.

It is a cheap ride to the night market and town either by tuk tuk or by rikshaw (dont bother with the hotel shuttle enjoy the experience). This hotel is a 5 star location by Thailand standards. The breakfast is great. The Thai food is so good and cheap in town at the great little market. Unfortunately the hotel tries to please all nationalities and does not succeed at any other than Thai.

Also if you are on a tour you can arrive by long boat which we did and it was very romantic. TourismoAsia made the arrangements for us which was great.

A great place to stay.

I stayed a night at the Dusit Island in Chiang Rai, and truly enjoyed the peaceful setting of the hotel's facilities and location. Although it is pricey, it retains the charm of a old but very well maintained resort. Strategically located at the Mae Kok River, you are overlooking the flow of the river, and the picturesque mountains in the background. Cool weather near year end also help. However, I can understand why this place is sparsely used, and may not be a destination for every type of traveller. Chiang Rai itself is not as accessible as other destinations like Phuket, or Chiang Mai. However, to me, that is the beauty. You get to enjoy quiet moments. Just yourself, the mountains, and the river.

This was a pretty bad hotel, especially for my price of 3700 baht. For this price in Thailand, you should be getting something excellent. Here, you get a nice lobby, view, and pool. As for everything else, it was terrible. First of all, for 3700 baht, having to pay for internet and breakfast is pretty ridiculous. They boast having the only fitness center in Chiang Rai - maybe, but everything is 20 years old and it closes at 8pm! The bathrooms look more like a 1000 baht hotel - and some new carpeting would be nice as well! This hotel is clearly making its money off of package tours (buses and tour groups to prove it). Beware.
