“Disapointing”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed April 15, 2013

Whilst the staff are friendly and the property is clean, the overall impresion is that the place is old and is in need of a face lift. It is by no means a 5 Star property.
The rooms are old and worn, the loungers at the pool are ALL broken. As it was out of season the service was sparodic at best. One day the pool bar was manned then next it was not. it is quiet and tranquil but compared to other properties in the area it falls far behind in its star rating.

Room Tip: All rooms are large but dated.

I've stayed at the Dusit Island many times, and each time the visit has been restful. Hotel is spotless and the staff is very efficient and accommodating. I look forward to my next trip. There are usually few people at the hotel so quiet is assured.

Room Tip: Ask for the river view, and ask for an upgraded room. Sometimes the hotel will oblige at no cost.

In my opinion ,this hotel gets better and better.
First of all ,also a warm friendly reception not only in Reception but in the whole hotel in all departments. The quality of the public rooms and individual bedeooms are so comfortable.
Thirdly the food is exquisite ,true traditional Thai food well presented and tasty.
For the kids of all ages,Olympic size pool ,Fitness centre and free wifi/internet.

Room Tip: The 7th floor is ideal ,nice and tranquil. Always press 1 ,not Lobby to go directly to the dining r...

I spent 3 days in this hotel. Rooms are very spacious. It's not in town, that means that every time that you need to go in town, you have to call a taxi (not expensive) or wait for the hotel transportation.
Staff is very helpfull.

This was our first trip to ChiangRai, although we have traveled to Thailand many, many times. We usually prefer small boutique hotels, however since we wanted to stay at the river we decided on the Dusit. This was a great choice. The staff was most helpful and friendly. The hotel food was great and the breakfast buffet offered a wide selection.
We will not hesitate to stay at the Dusit Island resort again.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with river view- it is fabulous!

The Dusit resort in CR is located a short distance (about 10-15 minutes by taxi) outside the city of Chiang Rai. The grounds of the resort are picturesque, with a river flowing very nearby, mountains in the far distance, and green area with a nice pool. We had a standard room, which was of good size and had a nice view of the hotel grounds. The room was old looking, but still livable, with a LCD TV. The bathroom had a bathtub and separate shower. The resort has four restaurants: Chinese cuisine served at Chinatown, Western and steakhouse specialties at The Peak (looks like the nicest) and all-day dining from a menu of Thai and international favorites at the Island Cafe. We ate at the Island Cafe, which was simple in style with average food. The resort had a fitness center but it was closed. The pool was very large and nicely situated. A bar was located next to the pool for refreshments. The resort has a nice cellar pub & games room where they offer a wide range of alcohol drinks, wine and beer, as well as various games such as snooker, darts, chess, etc. My biggest complaint (and only serious complaint) was the taxi service from the hotel to the city. In the evening we waited about 20-25 minutes for a taxi and then gave up and ate at the hotel. When we checked out, we again waited for 20 minutes at least and finally had to take the hotel’s van at 300 baht to take us the short distance to the bus station. I think the hotel management should make sure their guests are not stressed by the lack of a reliable taxi service. Actually, I’ve never experience such poor transportation services in the 100s of hotels I’ve visited.

The public areas of this hotel are very lovely, with beautiful gardens and a river view from the veranda. The room we had was large but very tired looking. Overdue for an update. Nice view from the window looking out the front of the hotel. The breakfast was nice, lots of options and they had a stand, part of the buffet, which would fix you a Thai coffee or iced tea. A nice touch. We were never able to find an empty table outside for breakfast but if the weather was nice it would be a pretty location with a lovely river view. We did not find the staff to be especially helpful, asked where the pub was and we were pointed to every other part of the hotel but the pub. You can walk to town from the hotel but it is a distance and easy to get turned around on the dark city streets. A tuk tuk or songtail is your best option for getting back to the hotel after an evening out.
