“Lovely Grounds”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 24, 2013

The public areas of this hotel are very lovely, with beautiful gardens and a river view from the veranda. The room we had was large but very tired looking. Overdue for an update. Nice view from the window looking out the front of the hotel. The breakfast was nice, lots of options and they had a stand, part of the buffet, which would fix you a Thai coffee or iced tea. A nice touch. We were never able to find an empty table outside for breakfast but if the weather was nice it would be a pretty location with a lovely river view. We did not find the staff to be especially helpful, asked where the pub was and we were pointed to every other part of the hotel but the pub. You can walk to town from the hotel but it is a distance and easy to get turned around on the dark city streets. A tuk tuk or songtail is your best option for getting back to the hotel after an evening out.

It is just far enough outside of Chiang Rai to be quiet but not too far that you can't either walk or take a short tuk tuk / taxi ride.
Great location on the river. The room was nice; pool and gym were great. Restaurant was good but like most of Thailand there is a lack of beverages if you want anything like a herbal tea.
A very relaxing stay.

I have been in this hotel in May and November of the 2011.The hotel offers a magnificent sight on the Mekong river, and it is marvelous to see the fast boats that sail on this river. The swimming pool is surrounded by an intense green, and not distant the center fitness, with sauna daily attended me. The breakfast was abundant and excellent, but the International kitchen allows to desire. The already cooked spaghetti, and almost introduced cold with a hat of sauce it was not pertinent for a hotel of this rank. I suggest to the chef to prepare the spaghetti at the moment and to make them jump in frying pan with the sauce. For this motive, I believe that quality- price; The price is exaggerated. Thank you. Alfredo Perillo

Room Tip: The suites i the corner are the best.

Fancy reception, rubbish dirty rooms and please park your rental toyota 200 yards away we only allow BMW & Mercedes to park next to the entrance. Guys, get real, understand service mind, you are in a service industry, customer is king, except here. Oh and you can book any tour you like so long as it is one of ours! Never again!

Room Tip: Choose another hotel

We chose the Dusit for the very reason that some travellers diss it: it is a little out of town and away from noise and too much activity. We also went for the Dusit brand name. Not disappointed at all: in fact, very pleased we went there. Been to Thailand several times, but our first visit to Chiang Rai. The location of the Resort was wonderful for us. On the banks of a peaceful river with excellent landscaped grounds, a lovely and unusual shrine and beautiful flowers and plants. The lobby is very large and takes in several tour groups effortlessly. It is also spotlessly clean. Despite so many groups, check-in is handled very efficiently, the staff understand and speak English much better than in several other places.
Our room was beautiful and the bathroom was great. My only disappointment was the sliding door to the bathroom - unnecessary, I felt, with so much space to have a proper door. One of the few hotels with a proper sofa in the room that can seat two people. Tea and coffee consumables were a bit scanty with only Lipton Yellow Label, that too two sachets per day. Well I didn't ask for any extra since I always carry my own teas. But when I did ask Housekeeping for a mug and bucket for the bath (miming it) the response was immediate!
Staff is friendly and pro-active. After the first day at breakfast, we didn't have to tell them to bring the tea and coffee later, nor to give us an ashtray -- they did it as a matter of course. Makes travellers feel like people instead of 'pax'.
Breakfast is great with a selection of Asian and European dishes. For other meals, the Chinese and Thai sections are superb, as is the outdoor seating area next to the river.
The spa is a bit disappointing. My husband said the full body massage was good but I was not happy with the foot massage -- it was not properly done and I've had several foot massages all over Thailand.
Walk to town is a brisk 15 minutes or a leisurely 25. Great to walk through the local market. Tuktuk ride back is between 80 and 100 Baht. What I liked best about the Dusit Resort is the charming ambience and the great staff. We'll be back some day.

Room Tip: River view superior rooms are good

The entrance lobby is pretty impressive when you walk in and staff immediately offer you a tasty drink. No complaints with the room, loved the bathroom! They have a "nightclub" downstairs which is prety nice....and empty. Both times I went and checked it out, I was the only one their, but its a nice setup where if you meet other guests you can hang there, watch tv, talk and play billiards. The drink I tried (forgot the name, their award winning drink) was pretty good. Buffet for dinner and breakfast was okay wasn't really impressed. I liked that they had free wifi and a computer room for those who want to use the hotel's computer. Unfortunately I was unable to try the gigantic pool or their exercise room, but I wish I had. Also the view from their Peak restaurant was amazing at night, the staff will let you see even if you're not eating there. I also enjoyed the boat trip down the river from the hotel
