“Charming little guesthouse with oodles of style!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 24, 2013

As soon as we entered the front gates of BNP, we were immediately struck by the tasteful, yet thoughtful redevelopment of the former kindergarten building. The tropical gardens and imaginative decorative touches all added to the tranquil and relaxed atmosphere. Although our basic but spotlessly clean rooms were directly behind reception and closest to the street, we heard no road noise during the night and slept extremely well. The garden deck and undercover section in front of the breakfast area were great places to chill out. BNP is everything a guesthouse should be!

This is an old kindergarten with spacious quiet bedrooms. We had a large comfy bed and a private bathroom with a 'shower over the floor' system. There was a nice garden with table and chairs where you could sit and have a drink. You cook your own breakfast - a plus in my opinion, and a nice change. The owners were lovely people and very helpful. It was great value for money too.

We stayed here for 3 nights booked through Pagoda. The owners were very friendly and helpful and could not do more to make us feel welcome. We don't usually stay at Guesthouses but this one may change our mind.

We stayed here 7 nights in January 2013. Located in the center of town on a small side street, the place is full of character. There is a large courtyard area with banana and palm trees with seats and places to have a drink. There is also a covered outdoor patio with more seating available. It feels like you've left the hustle and bustle of the city and entered a jungle oasis. The rooms are very cute: neatly made beds, excellent modern bathrooms, a TV and air conditioning. The breakfasts are big with many different options, but most of the options are traditional Thai breakfast food, which I love but others may not. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. They were able to call us transportation which arrived almost immediately, and helped make suggestions about how to get to other cities. The price is definitely worth it, and I will recommend this place to others who come to Chiang Rai. A great, homey feel.

Room Tip: If possible, choose a room toward the back of the complex to drown out some of the street noise.

My husband and I stayed here in March 2012. Apologies for the very late review. This is a lovely little place full of character and warmth. The building (an old kindergarten school) and gardens are well maintained and although it was one of the cheapest places that we stayed in throughout a 9 week trip in Asia and India it was one of the best and definitely most memorable for all the right reasons. The bedroom was spacious and clean with good bathroom facilities and we loved the fact that you prepared your own breakfast from a good array of ingredients. The owner also prepared at least 2 local dishes each day which you could tuck into! The outside courtyard offered a perfect place to eat breakfast and to relax. If we ever go back to Chaing Rai we would definitely return to this little gem.

Room Tip: Ground floor rooms can be noisy when people staying in rooms above (scraping chairs etc.)

Chiang Rai is a small little town famous for its Wat Rong Khun and it was the main reason of our stop-over. We chose to stay at Baan Norn Plearn after reading so much of good reviews and we were not disappointed at all! This guesthouse is approximately 20 minutes drive away from the airport (we are not sure if there are other transportation available, so we took a cab at 100 baht - faced a waiting period of more than 15 minutes due to the lack of car) and located in the heart of the town - very near to all other temples and shops.

We requested for an attached bathroom (good water pressure..hot shower) and we simply love the guesthouse for its cleanliness and quiet location. We spent most of our travel staying in boutique guesthouse and we found that this one offers an experience most similar to a home! We prepared our breakfast in the morning (raw ingredients are spread out in the kitchen every morning for your cooking pleasure - yup, you'll need to prepare your own and wash the dishes please :)) ) and every morning, the owner would prepare different local dessert for the guests. My favourite was the taro sticky rice. Awesome..really!

Wifi and bicycles are available free of charge while motorbike is on rent for 250 baht a day (the owner will be able to arrange that for you). A bike is good enough to explore the entire place - all the way to Wat Rong Khun and Central Plaza (don't trust the locals if they tell you that these are very far..HAHA..you can even take a bicycle there if you are fit...30-40 minutes drive..so probably an hour to cycle?). We took the bus anyways and the bus station too, is quite near to our guesthouse, like 10 min drive (or less).

Room Tip: Request for an attached bathroom if needed

We first stayed here for one night in a spacious and very clean twin room. We had booked an overnight trek and the guesthouse owners were very happy to securely store our luggage while we were away.
Breakfast is self-service in a little kitchen adjacent to a sweet outside courtyard. Guests can make their own eggs or congee and there is tea and instant coffee. The ingredients were basic but satisfactory.
Baan Norn Plearn is a safe, friendly and very clean place to stay. We recommend it as a base for visiting Chiang Rai and surrounding attractions.
