“Wonderful class and tours”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 7, 2014

We had a very enjoyable four-hour hands-on cooking class, and really learned a lot.

The classes are small, as the size of the kitchen and dining area limits the number of students so we had lots of individual attention – there were only four of us the day we took the class.

The owner takes care of transportation as well, picking us up and bringing us to the market before taking us to the class. The food we prepared was delicious, and we plan to use some of the recipes now that we are back in Canada.

Suwannee also has a business that organizes private tours of the sites around Chiang Rai, such as the white temple, the hill tribes, the black house and the golden triangle. The details and prices are towards the bottom of her webpage.

We booked a total of three days through her – besides the cooking class, she arranged for a wonderful private guide, car and driver to take us to the places we wanted to see over a two day period. The price was in line with the packaged group tours offered by the tour companies near our hotel, but far more personal and far more flexible about when the day started and what we were to see.

We were especially happy with the guide she arranged for us - Miss Addy – a very pleasant, patient person with a wealth of knowledge. We were lucky to have her.

“A Friendly and Delicious Introduction to Thai Cuisine and Chiang Rai”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 5, 2014

This was one of my first activities in Chiang Rai, and Suwannee was a friendly, patient and knowledgeable guide as she showed our class the basics of Thai cuisine. My fellow students and I started by planning out the menu for the day before Suwannee took us on a tour of the local market to pick up the ingredients

I can’t decide which part was best: actually learning to cook the food in her spacious kitchen, or strolling through the market stalls learning about the various local delicacies, herbs, products, and hill tribes that inhabit the area. Either way, this is a fine introduction to Thai cuisine and local culture, and a must-do in Chiang Rai.

Suwannee also offers other tours, which other reviewers may have good advice about.

“Wonderful day, great food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 1, 2014 via mobile

I spent a lovely morning browsing the market with Suwannee, tasting lots of things i wouldn't have picked myself (try the coconut icecream sandwich), learning a lot about the food in the process. After we did all the shopping, we drove to her kitchen and started cooking 4 fantastic dishes; papaya salad, coconut soup with chicken, red curry and steamed banana. All were delicious. It was so much fun talking to Suwannee about the food and her travels. Great value for money, highly recommended!

“A thoroughly professional cooking experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 29, 2014

Suwannee with the lovely smile picked us up from our Hotel before transporting all participants to the lively Chiang Rai market. We all enjoyed good local coffee while we deliberated amongst
ourselves the menu we'd all be cooking. Once we'd made all the purchases, we were taken to Suwannee's home minutes away from the centre. All recipes and ingredients were clearly and patiently explained. We were all delighted with our efforts - a glass noodle salad, Tom Yum soup, Chicken Green Curry and a sweet pumpkin and coconut afters. Suwannee kindly forwarded photos and recipes to us all later the same day.
We would highly recommend this school to everyone with an interest in improving their knowledge and skills of Thai cuisine. Not only did Suwannee expand our cuisine know how, we also learned a great deal about the Northern Thai culture, of which she is rightly proud. Suwannee has been the Star of our Thai holiday.

“One of the highlights of my trip!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 27, 2014

This is more than a cooking school, oh, so much more!
Suwannee is well informed and articulate and she clearly loves her country and is eager to share it's unique qualities.
I had an absolutely wonderful time. After picking me up at my hotel, we went directly to the large indoor market and over a cup of Thai tea she talked about the different ethnic groups that call Thailand home. From there we walked the market, aisle after aisle, talking about different foods and spices, trying a bit of this and that. She provided so much insight into the Thai culture, the ways in which the Thai people enjoy their food and the practices they use to prepare it. After we purchased the food, we went back to Suwannee's home and prepared our dishes. Her kitchen and dining room are large and perfectly set up to accommodate students. We cooked and tasted, cooked and tasted. It was so much fun.
If you are vising Chiang Rai, this is a must!
