Thought it would be a great way to celebrate my 40th with family and friends in Thailand, what a mistake to stay at this hotel!!!! Stayed at the hotel for 5 nights (was suppose to be 6 but we checked out a day early). When we arrived I have to agree with other reviewers that the check in staff are not very friendly. We had bought a deal with deals.com.au and right from the start had problems with the hotel even trying to book our accommodation from Sydney. When I arrived I asked reception how the deal worked with meals and the spa treatments, no one could give me an answer to my questions out of the 6 staff behind the reception desk. The check in staff were not up to date with the deal packages. In the end the front desk manager came out and answered my questions (which you would presume would be correct information that she gave, no such luck)
When checking out we were charged for meals that were included in the deal we had booked and paid for. It seems the front desk manager I talked to when I checked in had given us the wrong information and wanted to charge us for some of the meals. The check out process took us over an hour and then we were on the phone from Bangkok for a whole day afterwards with the hotel trying to clear up the problem. The front desk manager was extremely rude to us and argued with us on the phone and at one stage hung up on us. In the end we didn’t have to pay for the meals but ended up costing us just as much in telephone calls to the hotel.
One other problem we had was we went down half way through the holiday to pay for the drinks we had on our account, when we checked out these had not been taken off and they said we had not paid for them. Luckily for us we had the receipt but they still argued and said they weren’t paid for. In the end we had to say we were willing to get the police involved in this matter to look into it.
The resort itself......
Ask about wifi when you check in as they only have a certain amount of routers for guests. There is free wifi throughout the hotel but not in your rooms, very strange.
The food is average for both breakfast and other meals. Our meals were included in the deal however we only ended up eating at the hotel 4 times. There are many family restaurants around the hotel that have excellent food and from looking at the pricing a lot cheaper than the hotel restaurants which are expensive by Thai standards. Eat out or don’t eat at all.
In our package included were 12 half hour spa vouchers, however when we arrived the deal was we could only get 2 hour massages for those 12 vouchers. It was also extremely hard to get an appointment to have this massage. We ended up missing out on this due to our decision to leave the resort early, therefore cannot comment on whether they were any good.
The hotel itself is in need if some TLC there are a few area's that need attention. The exterior of the building needs a clean and painting. The rooms themselves are old and tired. The air conditioning is extremely noisy and there is no minibar. There is a fridge but nothing in it.The towels are old and ratty and the beds extremely hard. The block out blinds have seen better days and don’t work to full effect. The view from all the rooms is fantastic. The lift service can be a very long wait.
The pool is big and pool bar great however tiles are falling off the walls around the pool and the decking around the pool is loose in places. The bar tenders are great, the service here was exceptional.
The hotel provides free return shuttle to Hua Hin town at specific timings but pre-booking in advance is required. If you miss out on the shuttle the concierge can arrange a taxi for you. We used these quite often and had no problems. We got tuk tuks back to the hotel and these were great fun, just be firm on the price. The Novotel could look at increasing the shuttle service times, especially on the weekend,
We did love the little village atmosphere outside the hotel with the 7/11, massage shops, laundry's, restaurants and the pharmacy. The restaurants along the beach were just fantastic.
When we asked to speak to Alexander Parry, the general manager, we were refused and they would not even give us his email address to make contact with him in relation to all the problems we had on check out.
I am really disappointed in the hotel standard and the service from the hotel front desk. There is hardly any professionalism at all. I would definitely not return and would also tell friends to avoid this hotel. There are so many other hotel choices in Cha Am / Hua Hin.
We did have a good time in Hua Hin and Cha Am. We did a couple of tours and totally enjoyed ourselves. Just wouldn’t recommend to stay at this particular resort.
