We have just spent a relaxing 10 days at this chilled out & ultra modern hotel – overall a very positive experience – this place has the WOW factor, amazing food (v reasonably priced), great service, ultra modern rooms, but just a few niggles (details at the end).
Located just North of Cha-am, right on the beach, very quiet secluded location, it’s worth exploring some of the more rustic & authentic restaurants in Cha Am if you want something a bit more authentic/local than the hotel restaurants. We recommend Alek Seafood & Choom both in Cha Am.
We were lucky enough to book a Horizon room – the more expensive Garden Terrace rooms are not worth it as they are dark and the terraces are rather public. Our room had sea views which I would personally favour over a terrace with zero view. Room was very large with high ceilings and a gorgeous bathroom. Wow factor! Huge rain shower, Apple TV, VOD, chillout music and excellent wifi in most areas, even down on the beach. We got a small gift every evening during the turn down service, typically a chocolates/handmade biscuits/bath salts plus a typical thai drink – this was a lovely surprise.
Our package included breakfast and afternoon tea (not traditional English style – we were treated to Thai delicacies every day which was again a lovely surprise), both the food and service were perfect. Breakfast was amazing – every kind of food you can imagine. We ate dinner a few times at the hotel’s main restaurant “Motion”, again this was superb & reasonably priced. It is also worth using the hotel’s free bus service (worth pre booking as it gets busy) for exploring Hua Hin and Cha Am.
Our package also included a free spa treatment each (the spa is stunning & we loved the refreshing sorbet offered at the end) & a free meal at the Clouds Loft Restaurant.
We would recommend this hotel without a doubt but beware of a couple of negatives:
Sunbeds – not enough to go round and certainly not enough cushions for everyone! This was pretty shocking for a 5 star hotel. Luckily we secured a sunbed with cushion every day but some people were not so fortunate…..and we did have to resort to the annoying habit of “reserving” our beds before breakfast to ensure we had cushioning as did not fancy a day on a wooden sunlounger with no cushion…..beware!
Gym – not up to international standard – 4 rather old and low tech machines. Not 5 star!
Corporate events – hotel had a corporate function on several evenings. Whilst not a major problem it did encroach on us being able to relax, on one afternoon in particular. The hotel is quite small and there are no places to hide from this as you would be able to do in a larger hotel. The first event ruined an entire afternoon as the beach was taken over with set up and singing practice…..what a headache! When enough people complained the hotel did take steps to compensate us…..they organised an event for all guests with free food and alcohol. It was a nice idea but you can imagine my horror as we arrived at the event and realised we would all be seated on large tables together!! We did not come to a chill out hotel to have to spend an evening chatting to people we have never met……..in any case it was good that the hotel had compensated us.
I have only given 4 stars for cleanliness – everything was up to scratch apart from this one issue: a lot of the interior walls & window sills are v high we noticed there were a lot of cobwebs and dead insects lurking in these areas – I don’t know why they cannot get an extendible duster!! Again no other cleanliness issues found anywhere else…….I just don’t understand why a 5 star hotel would not give this more attention.
